Leaving Virgin 132Mbps for Vodafone 910Mbps FTTP. Has anyone had retentions match speed/price or offer free Wi-Fi pods?

Hi all,

Currently out of contract soon on Virgin 132 Mbps at £30/m.

I live in a 3-story house where the top floor is a complete Wi-Fi dead zone. I'm looking to switch to Vodafone 910 Mbps FTTP for £26/m (+ £130 voucher).

For those who recently put in 30 days notice to leave Virgin for an Openreach FTTP deal:

  1. What speeds or prices did the UK retentions team call back with?
  2. Did anyone in a multi-story home manage to get Virgin's Wi-Fi Pods included for free to fix dead zones?

Thanks!

Switching from Virgin (132Mbps) to Vodafone 910Mbps in a 3-story house. Is the router upgrade enough for dead zones?

Hi all, looking for quick advice on a home setup.
• Current: Virgin 132 Mbps at £30/m (out of contract soon).
• House: 3 floors. Router is on the ground floor living room.
• Speeds: 130 Mbps ground floor, 30 Mbps middle floor, 0-10 Mbps (dead zone) top floor.
• Deal: Vodafone Full Fibre 910 Mbps for £26/m (+ £130 voucher).
Goal is just getting ~50+ Mbps on the top floor.

  1. Will the baseline boost + Vodafone Wi-Fi 6 router push ~50 Mbps through two floors, or is a 3-story layout strictly going to need mesh nodes?
  2. Is Openreach Full Fibre (FTTP) noticeably better than Virgin coax for latency/stability?
  3. Is Black Friday likely to offer significantly better value on gigabit lines than £26/m + £130 voucher?
    Thanks!

Is the 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour bearable in August?

Hey everyone,
Looking into a multi-day desert tour in August (specifically considering Morocco / Merzouga, but open to experiences from Egypt or other Sahara regions).
For anyone who’s done a desert tour in peak summer:
How manageable was the heat during the day, at camp, and at night?
Are the long drives and heat worth it, or is it too grueling?
Would love to hear how you fared!

Cancelled by Aviva over Domino's company insurance. Need broker advice (Prius).

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on specialist car insurance brokers after getting caught in a delivery trap.
I work for Domino's and use their corporate third-party insurance while on shift. My main personal policy was with QuoteMeHappy (Aviva). I mentioned my job to their claims team, and they instantly issued a 7-day cancellation notice because Aviva strictly bans any form of "top-up" or dual insurance for delivery work.
I now have a cancellation mark for an admin breach (no fraud, no missed payments), and standard comparison sites are quoting insane prices.

Has anyone been in a similar situation with company delivery cover and managed to get it sorted?
How careful do I need to be going forward with declaring this or picking a new insurer?
Is there really anything I can do to get the price down at this stage, or do I just have to accept the high rates?

[UK] Passed Telus TryRating exam. Are there better-paying alternatives right now? (Don't mind NTA)

Hi everyone,

I’m in the UK and currently job-hunting for a proper Data Analyst position. I just passed the Telus Online Data Analyst (TryRating) exam, and they are asking for my ID verification to finalize onboarding.

However, everything I read says the per-task pay usually works out to below the UK minimum wage, which is making me hesitate before handing over my documents.

I'm purely looking for flexible stopgap money while I apply for real data roles. I actually don't mind sporadic work or NTA (No Tasks Available). As long as the effective hourly rate is better than Telus when the work is there, I'm happy to just jump on for a few hours when I can.

For UK workers:

  1. What does the Telus rate actually work out to per hour for you right now?
  2. Are there better-paying AI/Data tagging platforms currently accepting UK workers that fit this flexible vibe? (e.g., DataAnnotation, Outlier, WeLocalize?)

Appreciate any advice or reality checks on the current UK market!

Quick question on stacking Samsung Student Shop + TopCashback + PayPal rewards?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a new TV soon and want to maximize my discounts. I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to stack the following tracking/reward methods together on a single purchase, or if they will cancel each other out:

  1. Samsung Student Shop: Accessing the store directly through UNiDAYS/Student Beans so the base prices are already discounted.
  2. TopCashback: Clicking through TCB first to get their tracked retail percentage back.
  3. PayPal Wallet Reward: Paying at the very end using PayPal to trigger a "10 points per pound" offer currently active in my PayPal wallet (which is essentially an extra 10% back).

My questions:

  • Will the pre-discounted prices on the Samsung Student portal void the TopCashback tracking?
  • Does the PayPal wallet offer conflict with TCB's browser cookies at checkout?
  • If a full stack isn't possible, what is the best combination to drop? For example, can I use all but one of these and still get a solid stack?

Cheers for any insight!

Watching World Cup on iPlayer without a licence – has anyone actually been caught, and how?

I don’t have a TV licence, but I want to use iPlayer to watch the World Cup matches.
I already ignore the letters and doorstep inspectors, so I'm not worried about that. I'm just wondering about the digital tracking.
Has anyone actually been caught just from streaming the app? Can they trace your physical house or IP address? I highly doubt they can track you by "other means," but let me know if anyone has actually been caught out.

Graduating with a 1st in CS but home rotting and depressed. Has anyone been here?

I’m graduating this July with a First in Computer Science from a Russell Group university, but I have no internship experience.
My exams and lectures are finished, so now I’m just sitting at home doing nothing. It’s May 31st, June starts tomorrow, and I have no job lined up. I feel like I'm just rotting in my room, getting more depressed and demoralised day by day.
My family is struggling financially, and the pressure to find work is heavy. I’m applying for tech roles, junior roles, and even basic local part-time jobs, but I get ghosted or rejected everywhere. I can't even land a retail shift because there are so many people applying who already have years of experience. It feels unfair to compete against them, but at this rate, I feel like I'll never get anywhere.
I really need some advice and to hear from people who have been in my exact position. If you finished uni, had to sit at home watching the days tick by, and felt completely hopeless, how did you mentally get through it? What does your life look like now, and how did things finally work out for you?
I just need to know if and how it gets better. Thanks for reading.

Hello,

I’m travelling from London to Marrakesh for a week this August with my family of 5 (4 adults, 1 child). We want to figure out the most cost-effective and convenient way to get around.

We will be staying in Marrakesh but want to do day trips to Essaouira and maybe Agadir.

Since there are 5 of us, what makes the most sense?

  1. Renting a car outright for the week? (I’ve heard driving in Marrakesh is chaotic, but would having a car be cheaper/easier for a group of 5 going to Essaouira/Agadir?)
  2. Using taxis + public transport? (Ive seen standard city taxis only take 3 people, so we'd have to split up or find bigger cabs. For the day trips, are the long-distance buses like CTM/Supratours cheap and easy enough for a family of 5?)

We are trying to balance cost with the convenience of keeping everyone together. We are used to London prices but want to be smart about our budget.
Any advice on what works best for a group our size would be hugely appreciated!
