Where should we eat on our first night in West Hollywood?

We’re staying at the Chamberlain hotel in West Hollywood and we’re going to the comedy store for their headliners of the OR 9.30pm show. Looking for somewhere to eat, was originally going to eat at Mel’s Drive-In but apparently their food is mid lol. Another option I thought of was Jones but it’s a bit of a way from the comedy store.

As it’s our first night I think we’d like to find somewhere close to our hotel for convenience, and somewhere that’s close to the comedy store would also be a bonus. We’d be up for Mexican or classic American food, wouldn’t mind trying Korean but again it’s a bit far, we’d have to get an uber somewhere. Ideally we’d like somewhere within a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

Anyone have any recommendations for dinner for our first night?

Interview at the royal household - what to expect?

I’m a current civil servant and I know those that work at the palace aren’t technically civil servants, but I imagine there are a lot of them who have worked for the palace or work there now having worked in the CS beforehand.

I have an interview next week there. What can I expect? Are their interviews structured similarly to civil service interviews? How many stages are there normally? I’ve already had to complete two stages, so this is technically the third stage, and I expect there’ll probably be another stage after this.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated!

Is The Comedy Store worth going to for a 2-night stay in Hollywood?

Looking for shows for my girlfriend and I to go to in the evening. We're there Friday 28th to Sunday 30th, staying at a hotel in West Hollywood. I've noticed there's a Headliners of the Store Late Night show at 9:30pm on the Friday, so after dinner. Is this show generally good and is it worth going to? Don't want to spend a lot of money on it if it's not going to be great.

Failing that are there any better alternatives? We'd love to go to a live music night or something, or a comedy night and heard The Comedy Store was where you wanna be. Seems convenient as well, just down the road from our hotel.

What time do these shows normally end because we'd like to get drinks after the show ends as well from another bar?

How does my 2-night Los Angeles itinerary look?

We're staying in Los Angeles (West Hollywood) for 2 nights before we go on a 15-night road trip to Albuquerque and flying back home from there. Flying into LAX at 1:30pm on Friday 28th August. Let me know what you think, are we being too ambitious, and do you think we should strip anything out as we're there for so short a time?

Day 1 (Friday):

  • Afternoon: Land at LAX, pick up rental car, drive to WeHo, check-in
  • Evening: Dinner at Dan Tana's
  • Night: Drinks along Santa Monica Blvd / Sunset Strip

Day 2 (Saturday):

  • Morning: Breakfast at The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker, followed by Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
  • Afternoon: Lunch at The Farmers Market, shopping at The Grove mall, and a brief Walk of Fame / TCL Chinese Theatre stop (about 1 hour 15 mins at Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre)
  • Late Afternoon / Sunset: Sunset view and browse exhibits at Griffith Observatory
  • Evening: Dinner at Yamashiro
  • Night: Stand-up comedy show at The Comedy Store and late drinks

Day 3 (Sunday):

  • Morning: Breakfast at Urth Caffe Melrose, check out of hotel, and start drive to Las Vegas around 11AM.

2-day itinerary in West Hollywood?

I've decided to stay in West Hollywood at the Chamberlain hotel for 2 nights when I land in LA before going on a 15 night road trip. We'll be staying 28-30August, arriving at the hotel around 3pm on the 28th and leaving late-morning on the 30th.

Does anyone have any good ideas for a 2 day itinerary for us? I think we'd like to do The Academy Museum, but apart from that I'm quite open to ideas! We like great (but casual) food, cool bars/dive bars, films, comedy and wouldn't mind seeing Santa Monica beach at some point if there's time.

Thanks for all your help so far and for all the help on my other posts as well!

Should I stay in West Hollywood or Santa Monica for two nights?

We're doing a 15-night road trip starting in LA on 28th August and staying in LA for two nights, before driving to Las Vegas. I currently have a place booked in North Hollywood, but after asking this community for recommendations on things to do, I've realised we're a fair way from a lot of the attractions and stuff to do.

I've looked at places in West Hollywood and Santa Monica which appear to be roughly the same kind of price point (happy to pay a bit more than what we've booked in North Hollywood).

I'm not 100% sure on what we're going to do whilst we're in LA, but we like to go out experiencing different cuisines, we like going out for drinks, and we love films. We do like the beach as well, but we want a balanced base. A few of the things I've seen that I'm keen on going to are (not saying we'd have time to do all of this, just ideas): The Academy Museum, Hollywood Walk of Fame, LACMA, cocktails on Santa Monica beach, night out in Hollywood, Griffith Park/Observatory.

Would you recommend we stay in West Hollywood or Santa Monica? We land at 1:50pm at LAX (28th Aug), stay two nights, and then will leave mid-morning on the 30th Aug to drive to Las Vegas, so please bear that in mind when giving recommendations.

Thank you so much!

3 nights in Moab

We’re spending 3 nights just north of Moab in Castle Valley in early September and looking for recommendations for stuff to do.

I’ve booked a horse ride for one of our evenings which is fairly close to where we’re staying, so that evening we need to get there by 4:30pm. Other than that we haven’t got any plans.

I know Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef are pretty close, but I also don’t want to rush through any of them. We’ll have to skip at least one of them, if not two if we want to do a deep dive on just one of them.

Which ones would you suggest we visit in our 3 nights there?

Am I going a bit too hard on my workouts? This is the general picture my Apple Watch is telling me after I do a workout on the stairmaster. I am training for some hiking in Arizona/Utah in September, but unsure whether going so hard is the best way to go. Anyone got any thoughts?

One full evening + one full day in Grand Canyon - best itinerary?

We've booked one night at Maswik Lodge in early September, driving from Antelope Canyon in the afternoon (we have a tour there 10:40AM-12:10PM). We'll probably come into the canyon from the east entrance, maybe stopping off at the desert watchtower and grand view point, before checking into the lodge between 4-5pm.

I think we'd like to see sunset from Hopi Point that evening, so maybe get the shuttle not long after we arrive to the viewpoint, then need to figure out what to do for the rest of the evening. We'd like to do the South Kaibab trail down to Skeleton Point (or Cedar Ridge if it's too hot) and back up the next morning, probably starting from the trailhead about 8-8:30AM. So we don't have to tuck in too early the night before and want to make the most of our time here. We'll be staying in Flagstaff the next night and leaving the Grand Canyon at around 4-5pm to check into our hotel for about 6-6:30PM.

Where's the best non-fine dining food venue in the village? Have heard good things about Yavapai Lodge's food, but it's a bit of a trek from our hotel. We'd also like to grab a few drinks before tucking in and heard both Bright Angel and El Tovar lodges will have a bit of a vibe in the evening. Anybody got any recommendations? Thank you!

What to expect for assessment next week

I have my assessment for pip on Tuesday morning, over the phone. They said it’d take 30 minutes, which is much shorter than I was expecting as so many people on here have said their assessments have been upwards of 2 hours.

What can I expect from the assessment, like what kind of questions and what should I prepare? I’m claiming for autism, adhd, ocd, anxiety/depression, palpitations and migraines.

Grand Canyon itinerary - one full day from Flagstaff

We'll be in Grand Canyon for one full day, driving from Flagstaff, from breakfast until sunset. This is the itinerary that I've put together and I'm worried that we're being quite ambitious with it. Are these timings doable, and if not, what would people recommend we cut out to make our visit more worthwhile? We also would like to do Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff in the evening when we return. For reference, we're both experienced walkers.

06:00-07:00: Wake up, get ready in hotel (pack night before for the day)

07:00-08:40: Drive from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon (Google Maps says 1hr 25mins but giving a 15-minute buffer for traffic etc.)

08:40-08:45: Walk from parking spot to El Tovar

08:45-09:45: Breakfast at El Tovar

09:45-11:45: Bright Angel Trail Hike (1.5 mile round-trip to 2nd tunnel and back, open to just going to the 1st tunnel if doing 1.5 mile isn't workable)

11:45-01:00PM: Historic Village & Food Truck Lunch

01:00PM-02:15PM: Trail of Time Rim Walk & Geology Museum

02:15PM-05:15PM: Desert View Drive (stop off at Grandview Point, Navajo Point and Desert Watchtower, round trip, park back at Yavapai Lodge)

05:15PM-06:05PM: Dinner at Yavapai Tavern

06:05PM-06:15PM: Transit to Village Shuttle Hub

06:15PM-06:35PM: Wait time buffer for shuttle

06:35PM-06:45PM: Drive to Hopi Point

06:45PM-07:05PM: Sunset at Hopi Point (sunset due that day for 06:55PM)

07:05PM-07:30PM: Return to car

07:30PM-09:15PM: Drive back to Flagstaff

09:15PM-10:30PM: Lowell Observatory

10:30PM-00:00AM: Post-observatory drinks and return to hotel

Itinerary for 2 nights in Flagstaff

We're road tripping SW USA and we're staying for 2 nights in downtown Flagstaff. The day before, we'll be driving from Springdale, Utah, and have booked the Upper Antelope Canyon for 10:40AM. and need a bit of advice on what to do with our time. In my eyes there are 3 possible options.

1st option: Springdale > Antelope Canyon (for 10:40AM tour) > Lunch on the way to Grand Canyon > Grand Canyon east entrance, drive around > Sunset at Grand Canyon > Flagstaff > *Next Day* Breakfast in Flagstaff > Sedona and Tlaquepaque shopping and art galleries > Lowell Observatory > Dinner and drinks in Flagstaff

2nd option: Same as above, but instead of Tlaquepaque and Lowell Observatory, we do a full day at Grand Canyon and then if we have time do Tlaquepaque and Lowell Observatory later on.

3rd option: Same as above, but do Lowell Observatory on the first night after we arrive in Flagstaff, freeing up time later on.

Sorry if this is a bit confusing. Would value thoughts on which itinerary would be the best!

Itinerary for 1 1/2 days (2 nights) in Zion

Partner and I are staying at a BnB in Springdale for 2 nights in the first week of September. We’re a few minutes walk from a shuttle bus.

We have a half day, and then one full day, before leaving Springdale the next morning.

What would be your recommended itinerary? We definitely want to do at least one of Angel’s Landing or The Narrows, though I know you need to get a permit for angel’s landing which is a lottery system. How likely are we to get a permit the day before and is there any way to get a permit before this point?

Would it be possible to do both The Narrows and Angel’s Landing in the time we have in Zion? Or is there something else you’d recommend us do? Also how tough and dangerous is Angel’s Landing? I’ve heard people say it’s really dangerous. I’m an experienced hiker but my girlfriend isn’t.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Transport at night in Durango

We're staying in Durango for 3 nights in the first week of September, and we'd quite like to go out on the town in the evenings, to bars like El Rancho and other downtown bars after dinner, without worrying about drinking too much to drive.

We'll be staying in the northern part of town in an Airbnb, says it's an 8-minute drive to downtown Durango. Are there reliable taxi or uber services in town that we'd be able to hail after we've finished in town at night (around midnight-1am)? Or even better is there public transport that runs late?

Are some taxi operators better than others as well?

We can cancel the reservation for free, so if it's best to stay closer to downtown, we can cancel that and look for somewhere closer.

Is it worth staying in downtown Flagstaff rather than outside of it?

We're road tripping at the end of this month and we will be staying in the Flagstaff area for 2 nights to visit Grand Canyon and then drive towards Monument Valley afterwards. We're wondering whether we should stay in downtown Flagstaff to go to a few bars in the evening, or whether we can stay just outside of Flagstaff and probably get taxis in and out? I've heard taxis can be a bit of a nightmare though so I'm conscious of that too.

Where to stay for 2 nights for Grand Canyon and onward journey to Monument Valley/Moab

We're road tripping West USA for 15 nights at the end of the month (LA to Albuquerque - family in Albuquerque so staying here a few nights).

Staying in Zion 2 nights and then driving from there to somewhere relatively close to the Grand Canyon to stay around there for 2 nights (2 Sep - 4 Sep, but spending one full day in Grand Canyon on the 3rd, we were thinking). When we're driving from Zion to Grand Canyon area on the 2nd Sep, we would really like to stop off at Antelope Canyon as it's on the way, but will that be cramming too much in? We'd probs just have to leave early (8am) on the 2nd, right?

On the 4th morning we'll be leaving the area to go to Monument Valley, so we thought booking accommodation that's relatively central to both of them would be ideal.

Most of our trip is spent in cabins or accommodation in nature, so we thought it'd be good to spend these two nights in somewhere with a bit of a buzz - cool bars, nice restaurants, etc. With that in mind we were thinking Flagstaff would work. It's not too far to get to Grand Canyon for the day on the 3rd, and in the evenings we can unwind a bit, go to dinner then go bar hopping afterwards without worrying about driving to places.

On the other hand, I'm aware that there are some lovely places to stay like Williams, AZ, Page and Grand Canyon Village, but from what I've gathered there isn't as much of a buzz in these places. Are we making the right decision staying in Flagstaff given our itinerary?

On the morning of the 4th we will drive from our accommodation (Flagstaff?) to Monument Valley, spend most of the day there, and then in the afternoon/late afternoon drive from there to accommodation we've booked in Moab. It'll be a long day, but hopefully we can fit Monument Valley in comfortably as long as we leave early (8am or so)?

Grateful for any advice!

Durango-Silverton steam train - which carriage to pick and which side to pick

I put another post up earlier about whether to do the return journey or get the bus back to Durango from Silverton. I think I'll opt for getting the train there and then the shuttle bus back to Durango after.

One thing that wasn't as clear is which carriage I should pick for the best experience, and which side of the carriage I should pick. In the other post I put up, a few people said right (the majority I think), and a few said left.

Also do you have any recommendations on what to do in Silverton when we get there? I think we'd go for lunch, preferably somewhere a bit scenic?

Grateful for your help!

Is it worth doing the Durango-Silverton return journey or bus back from Silverton?

The title really. I know if you get the bus back it saves a lot of time, but is it worth doing the round trip for the experience? Also is it worth doing the extended version of the Silverton trip? Think you get a couple more hours in Silverton, is it worth it?

West coast road trip- trying to decide which route option to go for

Girlfriend and I flying into LA 28th August, flying back to the UK from Albuquerque on the 12th September (15 nights total). Going to visit my family in Albuquerque at the end.

I have two route options I'm trying to decide between. The main point of contention is whether to stay in Albuquerque for 2 or 3 nights. I've been to my family's place in Albuquerque 3 times, but it's my girlfriend's first time there. I also see them quite regularly, at least once a year as they come to the UK fairly regularly too. I saw them last month when they were in the UK so it's not as if I haven't seen them in years, but I still worry whether two nights would be too much of a dashing visit. Here are the two options, would be keen for people's thoughts, particularly on this point and on whether Moab warrants 3 nights instead of 2. Grateful for any feedback!

Option A:

LA (2 nights in LA)

Las Vegas (1 night in Las Vegas)

Zion (3 nights in Zion)

Grand Canyon then Kayenta (1 night in Kayenta)

Monument Valley and then drive to Moab (3 nights in Moab)

Ouray/Telluride (3 nights in Ouray/Telluride)

Albuquerque (2 nights)

Option B:

LA (2 nights in LA)

Las Vegas (1 night in Las Vegas)

Zion (3 nights in Zion)

Grand Canyon then Kayenta (1 night in Kayenta)

Monument Valley and then drive to Moab (2 nights in Moab)

Ouray/Telluride (3 nights in Ouray/Telluride)

Albuquerque (3 nights)
