Affordable transportation from Cancún airport to Holbox?

Looking for a reliable and reasonably priced transfer for two people from Cancún Airport to Holbox in November.

Ideally hoping for something easy that includes the drive to Chiquilá and can help coordinate the ferry/taxi on the Holbox side too.

Any recent recommendations for companies you’ve used and liked?

Chubby Cayman in January

Planning 5 nights in Grand Cayman in January for just my husband and me, and I’m having a surprisingly hard time finding the sweet spot between genuinely luxurious and under about $1,200/night.

Priorities are a beautiful pool, great beach or very easy beach access, nice design, and somewhere that feels special for a couples trip. We don’t need a huge villa or multi-bedroom condo, and a lot of the Seven Mile Beach condo inventory feels a little dated for what it costs.

Current shortlist:

• Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman: probably the best value on paper, brand new, great pools and spa, but obviously still unproven
• Botanica Deluxe Cottage: love the design and private pool, but wish the beach setup were more seamless
• Kimpton Seafire: probably the best fit overall, but pushing past budget for our dates
• Palm Heights: love it, but also coming in way too high

Am I missing any boutique hotels, smaller luxury resorts, residences, or really well done rentals that Chubby Travel would recommend?

Totally fine spending close to $1k/night if it feels worth it. I just don’t want to pay $1,200 to $1,500+ for something that doesn’t feel meaningfully better.

Please tell me the wind shift is taking the flies with it!

Anyone in Nags Head today, how are the biting flies this morning?

We got absolutely destroyed by them the last couple days, but it looks like the wind is supposed to switch from W/NW to N later today. Has anyone noticed that helping once the wind turns, or are they still brutal either way?

Trying to decide if a late afternoon beach hang is worth attempting!!!

Best fly fishing guide??

I are staying on Holbox in late November and would love to spend one day fly fishing.

We are looking for a reputable private guide who can ideally pick us up directly from the beach on Holbox. We would be happy to do a full day and are primarily interested in fly fishing for tarpon, snook, permit, or whatever is best that time of year.

Has anyone gone recently and had a guide or operator they would highly recommend??

Holbox in Your Mid 30s: Peaceful Escape or Party-Oriented?

My husband and I are in our mid 30s and considering Holbox for a four night trip in late November, likely staying at Nômade because of the Michelin Key.

We are looking for somewhere relaxed, beautiful, and grown up rather than a party destination. For those who have been recently, does Holbox still feel charming and peaceful, or has it become noticeably younger and more nightlife focused?

We also care a lot about the quality of the beaches. How beautiful is the beach and water in reality, especially in late November? Is Holbox somewhere you would choose primarily for the beach itself, or more for the overall island atmosphere?

Would especially love recent feedback on Nômade.

Need fresh eyes on my breakfast nook dilemma!

I'm designing a breakfast nook in a three-sided bay window (about 98" across) and have gone down a rabbit hole.

So far I've considered:

  • A fully custom upholstered banquette
  • A pre-made curved bench that "floats" in front of the windows
  • A modular banquette system (like West Elm's Novak collection)

The problem is every bay window seems to be a different size, so it's hard to find something that actually fits well.

If you've tackled a similar space, what did you end up doing? Did you go custom, find a great ready-made option, or discover a company that specializes in banquettes or curved benches?

Would you go custom or prefab for this small breakfast nook?

I'm designing a small breakfast nook around a three-sided bay window (about 98" across) and can't decide which direction to go.

Option 1: Invest in a fully custom freestanding upholstered banquette built to match the bay.

Option 2: Buy a pre-made curved bench (like Ballard or similar) and let it "float" in front of the windows.

Option 3: Use a modular banquette collection (West Elm Novak, etc.) to create a custom-ish configuration.

Has anyone gone through this decision? If you did a prefab solution, were you happy with it, or did you wish you'd gone custom? I'd also love recommendations for manufacturers that make banquettes beyond the usual Pottery Barn/West Elm options!

Help me rethink this kitchen layout?

We're planning a full kitchen renovation and feel like there's a smarter layout than simply replacing the cabinets. We don't think an island is realistic because of multiple circulation paths, but we're open to expanding slightly into the dining room or breakfast nook, adding a built-in buffet or pantry wall, or completely rethinking the peninsula.

If this were your house, how would you redesign it to maximize storage, prep space, and flow? I'll attach the floor plan and photos.

Clear HSG Today But Still Feeling Stuck

33F and just had my fertility workup expanded today. HSG showed both tubes are open and ultrasound showed 9 follicles on one ovary, 5 on the other, with a 12 mm lead follicle on CD10 after letrozole.

My AMH is 6.7, cycles are generally regular, and my husband's semen analysis was mostly reassuring although morphology was 2%. My RE categorized us as unexplained infertility and recommended up to 3 IUIs before considering IVF.

Part of me is relieved because today's testing was good news and there doesn't seem to be an obvious reason we aren't conceiving. Another part of me is frustrated because I almost wish there was something concrete to fix.

For those who were given an unexplained infertility diagnosis with a similar workup, did you continue with medicated cycles for a bit or move straight to IUI?

Letrozole + oral progesterone

Sharing my Mira chart in case it’s helpful for anyone comparing patterns.

This was my first letrozole cycle. Strong LH surge around CD14/15, PdG rose afterward, and I started oral progesterone a few days later. What surprised me was that my E3G dropped after the surge and then rebounded during the luteal phase instead of continuing downward.

I’m about 10 DPO and had a negative FRER this morning, so no outcome yet.

Curious if anyone else has seen a similar E3G pattern on letrozole or progesterone support.

Semen Analysis Results?

Looking for thoughts on my this semen analysis.

  • Volume: 1.7 mL
  • Concentration: 187 million/mL
  • Total count: 317.9 million
  • Total motility: 47%
  • Progressive motility: 40%
  • Vitality: 47% (low)
  • Morphology: 2% (low)

The count seems good, motility is normal, but morphology and vitality are below reference range. Has anyone had similar numbers and gone on to conceive naturally or with IUI? Did your RE consider this a meaningful male-factor issue or more of a mild finding given the very high count?

Would appreciate any thoughts or experiences.

Nook breakfast dining ideas

Need ideas for how to transform this little nook into a cozy breakfast dining area. I’m torn between doing custom built-ins vs buying banquette seating. The space has a lot of windows and I want it to feel warm, layered, and somewhat English/European inspired rather than super modern.

Would you do built-ins, a freestanding banquette, or just a small round table with chairs? Would also love thoughts on rugs, lighting, wall treatment, etc. Any inspo or layout ideas appreciated!

Cops and Carytown McDonald’s

Just witnessed a really intense arrest situation at the Carytown McDonald’s around 8:30 PM Sunday night. There were at least 4–5 cop cars and 2–3 individuals being detained. It looked like officers may have had their guns drawn at one point.

Does anyone know what happened?

Remove the wood window trim and take backsplash to ceiling?

Trying to update our kitchen while keeping the existing cherry cabinets. Thinking about removing the dark wood window trim, painting it white to match the window, adding a simple white backsplash all the way up around the window, and switching to a light countertop.

Do you think removing the wood trim and taking the backsplash to the ceiling will make it feel cleaner and more updated? Do I need a trim at all or can tile surround the window?

Can someone analyze my Mira chart? I did Clomid this cycle and I know I ovulated. I’m currently 8 DPO and curious what people think about the hormone trends after ovulation. Haven’t tested yet because I’m scared to test too early!

Trying to use points/status for a 3-night luxury beach add-on after a Tampa work trip in July and debating between:

* The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota

* The Ritz-Carlton, Naples

* JW Marriott Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa

* The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club, Autograph Collection

* The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort (probably too expensive)

Priorities are:

* beautiful beach/pool setup

* luxury feel

* good nearby dining and maybe golf

* relaxing but not totally sleepy

Also very curious whether people found the The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota beach club setup luxurious and worth it, or annoying compared to staying directly on the beach.

I know it'll be hot in July but trying to take advantage of being down there!

Would love opinions from anyone who has stayed at these recently!

Planning a 3-night luxury beach add-on with my husband after a Tampa work trip in July and would love opinions from this group. Looking within ~3 hours of Tampa and currently debating between:

  • The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota (best rate, I've read rooms are dated)
  • The Ritz-Carlton, Naples
  • Naples Beach Club, A Four Seasons Resort (brand new!)
  • Longboat Key Club
  • JW Marriott Clearwater Beach
  • St. Regis Longboat Key is overbudget that weekend

Priorities are:

  • beautiful beach experience
  • elevated/luxury feel
  • good dinners nearby
  • relaxing but not totally sleepy

I'm also well aware July in Florida is not ideal so maybe any recommendations somewhere that gets a bit of a breeze or easy for a boat day.

didn’t catch a clear LH surge this cycle, but had a PdG spike (~16) one day, then it dropped back down the next day.

Still seeing fertile CM and high estrogen.

Does this sound like I ovulated and missed the surge, or more like a false PdG rise and my body is still trying?
