What are your thoughts on cats and dogs under one roof?

I currently own a cat and it’ll be just that for the foreseeable future. I do not have the means, space or time at the moment to commit to a dog or a puppy.

Growing up, I’ve always wanted a dog. We never had them (poor), but I was obsessed with dogs as a child. I would research different breeds online and all my first books were about dogs. When I was in kindergarten I even told my mom that I wished I was born a dog 🤦‍♀️

That said, I also love cats and ever since I adopted my little best friend I can’t imagine not having those cute little assholes around. In a more stable situation in the distant future my dream is having both. However I’m kind of two minds on it?

For one I really wouldn’t want to stress the poor cat with a rambunctious puppy at the very least. Not to mention the very real risk of the predator vs prey dynamic. If I were to get a dog, I would basically have to limit myself to toy companion type breeds to feel remotely comfortable because anything bigger/more deadly would just feel cruel.

I’m probably going to offend some people here when I say that I seriously side eye people who own breeds like pitbulls or greyhounds with cats, knowing they extremely prey driven by nature and how quickly things could go wrong even with just predatory drift and all that. I frequently see posts on dog subs about newly adopted/rescued adult dogs with unknown histories, or a partners “friendly” dog, or whatever suddenly introduced to a house of cats, asking for advice as to why they dog is fixating and how to “train” them to stop and I’m like…??? Is it ignorance or are some people really that callous about an innocent, sweet and intelligent creature’s life under their care?

What are your thoughts on this? Especially for those who have or have had both under one roof at a given time, has it ever worked out and how?

New Kobo device on the horizon?

I found 4 new FCC filing entries by Netronix Inc (Kobo’s main supplier/ODM) on fccid.io, one from this May and 3 from earlier July.

They are all indicated with a SB- or SA- prefix, while Kobos past devices are generally indicated with a KBN- so this is just a shot in the dark and could be another brand/product entirely. However, I found an exception to the rule (H- prefix marking a Kobo white Clara casing design in earlier 2025), so I think it’s still worth speculating!

One of the new entires has test set up photos, looks like a larger sized tablet/colour e-reader. Maybe a Kaleido 3 Elipsa is on the way?

Since the show is being prematurely renewed another season…

… is there any scenario here at all where this series underperforms at all?

It is difficult to say without being out, of course. It is known Harry Potter is a behemoth of a brand and even with mass calls of boycotting the author, that did not stop Hogwarts Legacy from generating over one billion dollars in revenue (!). On the other hand, I do think there is a “remake” fatigue and people are sick of seeing the same stories being rehashed constantly. One example I will take is Percy Jackson— the original films based on the books were universally mocked and the fandom was begging for a new adaption for many years until a show got greenlit.

Disney has its own issues, that on top of the original authors new “creative” deviations/choices have also alienated many fans & caused the viewership to decline to the point that I have been reading that the certainty of any seasons to be produced after season twos lacklustre release is up for debate. Most oddly, there has been a shift in perception of the original films, they are still acknowledged as extremely inaccurate but there is a new appreciation for the superior acting, production quality, characterisation and more.

I am not comparing Percy Jackson to Harry Potter, since the IP value of the latter is vastly leagues above it. But I’m wondering if there is any scenario here where the new show doesn’t stack up to the films.

A lot of people here wish that this show will follow the books more accurately, but a book story will always inherently have to adjust & adapt accordingly for the screen, even if a show format allows for more running hours. Another thing I would factor in is how huge the cultural phenomenon of Harry Potter was in the 2000’s, where the films were coming out concurrently with the books. Another thing is the little things, with a new adaption we will be comparing the palate of colours, the set, the acting of the new cast with the film versions that have already been done, and if anything falls short it would be far more difficult to reconcile than seeing the first adaption & sometimes all of that is more important than book accuracy in itself, as shown with the Percy Jackson films vs show.

Like with Hogwarts Legacy, I have zero doubts this show will be widely successful anyways. HOTD on HBO is hot trash but it’s soaring on the coattails of GOT. What I’m unsure of is whether it can stack up to the films as a phenomenon & if it will be widely rewatched over Christmas each year for the holiday season 20 years later like the films have been and will continue to be.

Do these scans indicate recession?

I have a history of overbite which was compensated for with childhood orthodontics.

I still have some symptoms indicative of it like the inability to fully smile/minimal teeth show when doing so (opposite of gummy smile), and an odd profile. I also have some functional issues with swallowing/chewing, breathing/sinusitis/nasal blockage, and TMJ. I’ve been to two orthodontists who have told me that removing my wisdom teeth will solve the latter issues and to otherwise see a TMJ specialist if it doesn’t work, otherwise my teeth are aligned and they can’t fix anything.

I also have some noticeable arch asymmetry (one side more rounded/forward and overlap with my bottom teeth, the other flatter/steeper), while affects facial symmetry and makes my smile lopsided.

Has anyone bought an older Kobo model from the Berlin-shop store on EBay?

What was your experience with the device? I’ve noticed they generally have two separate categories too, “Neuwertig” which I think is like new and the standard?

Is C.ai+ worth it?

I’ve never had plus and never needed it, but the swipe and go limits are really hampering my experience. I want to stubbornly refuse but I use this app constantly.

Are these cases safe for the Boox Palma 2?

Particularly the front flap, which is an odd choice in comparison to the official and most other versions with the side magnet instead…

TwoSheep on Aliexpress has finally come out with some cute designs for the Boox Palma 1/2 & 2 Pro models, so I’m curious.

Kwmobile case experience? (Or warning perhaps)

I got the travel themed case for my Kobo Libra Colour in January. Felt very sturdy in hand, light, sleek and super pretty! The case itself was a hard plastic type that was difficult to remove, but I left that and didn’t think much of it. I noticed after when semester started, and my reading became infrequent my device would behave really weirdly. After not using it for a while it would freeze, the light would flash and it would reset itself eventually. Again, didn’t think much of that and I chalked it up to coincidentally having downloaded KOReader on my device at the same time & leaving it sleep on it.

I didn’t really connect the dots until a few days ago after a quick reading session where the Kobo worked fine, I decided to try snap it out of the case and I finally managed it. It was difficult but I pushed it through the power button cut out and voila… except it reset once, and then another time straight after. It’s really weird and after switching back to my old case I’m wondering if the case was so tight it was putting pressure on the internals all along. I’ve had no issues since.

Has anyone had a similar experience or could it actually just be a KOReader thing? I really loved that case but I’m sort of hesitant to use it now. It’s definitely the right size and not the Libra 2 version— USB cutout is correct and it’s very flush with the body (as opposed to the Libra 2 which is a tad thicker/blockier).

Amazon.de self paid return help?

I bought a device that was non functional out of the box, and when I initiated the return process it said that they would cover €11 of shipping. Problem being that any item containing a lithium ion battery is barred from most local postal services, so the price for DHL jumped to €90 + insurance.

I contacted Amazon and they told me they would cover all of shipping, but just to send the receipt after. So I proceeded with DHL, and I sent the receipt + invoice to impressum@amazon.de. Shipping was successful, and the refund for the item + €11 shipping was automatically generated.

The customer service agent contacted me in German asking me for a “Rücksendebeleg”, even though I had attached the necessary documents in the original email (?). I replied with the same documents adding POD and the return labels for it just in case.

Then I got a notification from Revolut saying that Amazon has refunded me… €0.96. I contacted customer service over phone asking about the figure and they said they contacted the department and they would get back to me by the end of day. That was on Monday, and now it’s crickets.

I’m really worried that they’re fleecing me here. Has anyone been in a similar boat?

Kobo Libra Colour— third party case recs???

I’ve been using a hard/snap shell kwmobile sleepcover and I’ve noticed the fit is a little too tight? My device was acting up a bit for the past few months, especially after being idle for a while. I chalked it up to that fact but today I managed to snap it out my case finally and it reset a few times before working correctly so I’m worried the case stiffness/tightness has been putting pressure on the internals all along.

Anyways, I’m currently window shopping for a new case and I’m wondering if anyone’s found any good alternatives. I know the Kobo official branded cases are not meant to be very good/deteriorate quickly, but I’d love something that can accommodate my stylus. Are there any good leather cases out there?

Does it look like I am a candidate?

I have a history of overbite pre orthodontics, and I’m currently dealing with TMJ & breathing issues aside from some asymmetry (especially in upper arch— not really noticeable here, these were the only pictures I was sent :/ ). I also have an odd smile, it’s very narrow and my bottom teeth are really prominent and barely so my upper (think opposite of gummy smile) so I suspect some recession is at play there.

The orthodontist dismissed my concerns, said my teeth alignment was good and my TMJ issues are due to my wisdom teeth and I was recommended to remove them. Can someone help me interpret these scans or provide a second opinion if relevant? Thanks

How feasible are Nooks in Europe?

Rooted and/or with KOReader installed?

I know the store is basically defunct if you don’t have a US based address or card, and sideloading is limited to 5gb— is there a way to bypass that?

I really love the form factor and the symmetrical buttons, it looks cozy and ergonomic as hell.

Give it up for Joffrey Baratheon, first of the Andals, the Just and the Gentle, Friend of the Poor and Downtrodden, a King who acknowledges the existence of the poor commonfolk more than Robert, Tommen, Cersei, and any Targaryen ruler combined ❤️

Visited two orthodontists, a little discouraged :/

I’m 23F dealing with TMJ issues since childhood that are only getting worse— near constant temple headaches, difficulty chewing/swallowing/breathing and even my neck freezing up.

Both orthodontists (of which only one did a proper CBCT scan) said my alignment looked okay and that it’s likely my wisdom teeth at fault, but I have a history of overbite that was aligned/compensated for with orthodontics as a teen. And I feel really uncomfortable/ugly in my resting bite— I literally feel like one side of my jaw is curved/juts out to my cheek more while the other is steep/narrow and it throws off my facial proportions. It’s even noticeable when I smile, I see more teeth on one side than the other, or my resting lips which look uneven.

I guess I’ll get my wisdom teeth out and I’ll see where to go from here, perhaps I should be visiting a maxillofacial surgeon first. Just a little bummed out and tired by this process.
