I underpriced my work for way to long.

I’m a freelance web developer. Most of my work is small-to-mid sized business sites, usually redesigns or building new landing pages, nothing massive but often a lot of back and forth with clients. I always thought I had a pretty good sense of how long things take me. Like for example, a recent project involved the homepage redesign and responsive adjustments, 5 subpages, basic SEO setup, a few rounds of client revisions, and of course a few quick questions on email that always turn into longer discussions.

If someone asked me before, I would’ve said that it takes me about two working days. However, I felt like all these added take me much longer so I started tracking my work using flowii. I done it for a couple of weeks only and I realised my ideas of time and reality didnt really match.

Those two working days for the project were more like 3 to 4 working days, or 7-8 active work sessions that spread across multiple days. What surprised me most wasn’t just the total time, but how much invisible time there is. I started using this system mainly because I already had client projects in it, and it had built-in time tracking. Nothing fancy, I just needed something consistent.

Now, I obviously changed my prices a bit to reflect my time spent on projects, but also created a more organised system that I could work wit hand be productive. So, if you feel like your work is under-priced, probably is.

I keep buying cheap shoes and my feet keep paying the price

been at Dollar Tree about 6 months. I work freight and sometimes register. My feet are destroyed by hour 5 every shift.

I've been buying cheap shoes from Walmart because my paycheck is tight. $25-$30 pairs. They feel okay for like 2 weeks and then the foam dies. I've gone through 4 pairs already. That's like $120 on shoes that didn't work.

I don't know if I can drop 200 on shoes. But I also cant keep spending money on stuff that doesn't work. Anyone else in this situation? Is it worth it to just save up and buy something good?

Paddled a stretch of the ausable yesterday and my arms are officially noodles

dragged the kayak out of storage for the first time this season. figured I'd ease back into it with something gentle. the ausable had other plans

Put in near peru and the current was moving faster than I expected. Nothing dangerous, just enough to remind me that my off season conditioning is basically zero. Spent more time correcting my line than actually enjoying the first half mile

The nice thing about that stretch though is you can pull out and rest pretty easily. I found a quiet eddy near this campground and just floated there for a while watching the light come through the trees. There's a spot called camp happy grounds right on the water, saw a few families set up with kayaks of their own. Looked like a decent base if you wanted to do a couple days of paddling without moving camp

Rest of the run was smoother. found my rhythm eventually. Saw a heron that was definitely judging my technique

anyway Im sore in places I forgot existed. Worth it. anyone else been out on the ausable this year or am I the only one starting late

The massive corporate hospital complexes around here give me so much anxiety

I don't know how anyone is supposed to heal in these giant concrete mazes. Went with a family member to one of the big health systems off I-20 the other day and the whole place just feels so cold and industrial. You're basically treated like a barcode the second you walk through the sliding glass doors

When we were looking for specialized care a few months ago, it was so depressing realizing almost all the mental health facilities in the immediate area feel exactly like that, just sterile locked wards with zero personality. We ended up having to look way outside the city limits and found Eating Disorder Solutions just because we desperately needed a place that actually felt like a home instead of a clinical prison

I just hate how commercialized the whole medical industry has gotten around DFW. Every new clinic they build looks like a futuristic data center instead of a place meant for actual human beings. kinda makes the whole process of getting help so much more intimidating tbh. Anyone else get instantly stressed out just walking into these places?

Gas to heat pump water heater swap in Minneapolis. Panel work is the sticking point.

Current gas tank water heater is 15 years old and on its way out, so I am using this as a chance to switch to a hybrid heat pump unit. The plumbing side feels manageable but the electrical is where I am genuinely unsure about scope.

Coming from gas there is no existing 240v circuit anywhere near the utility closet. So this is a full run from the panel, new conduit, new breaker, plus I need to figure out if the panel itself can handle the load. House is older so I am not 100% confident in the current capacity.

I already got a quote from McQuillan Bros, here in Minneapolis who apparently do a lot of these installs and have their own electricians on staff for exactly this kind of panel work. Their number was not cheap but it was not insane either. Still trying to figure out if it makes sense to hire the whole job out or just pay an electrician for the panel portion and handle the plumbing myself.

A few things I would love input on from people who actually do this work:

What is the typical amperage draw on a heat pump water heater and what size breaker are you usually pulling for these installs?

For a panel that is already somewhat loaded, what does the load calculation actually look like in practice?

Is the DIY plumbing plus hired electrician split a common approach or do most people just go full install with one contractor?

I want a new bathroom. My wallet says no

I’ve been staring at my bathroom for three years with pure, unfiltered disdain. That yellowish tub. The cheap chrome taps that feel like they belong in a public pool. The whole room just screams like it’s an apartment special. So, I’d love to do a full gut renovation, but my bank account looked at me and said absolutely not

So I’ve been spending my nights studying bathroom trends with lots of different ideas and hoping to find a way out of this mess without remortgaging my soul

And honestly? I’m starting to think there might be a way

Instead of watching videos of guys with sledgehammers, I keep seeing these transformation reels where people aren’t ripping out tiles. They’re just swapping metal. Hardware, they call it. The jewelry of the bathroom. It seems too good to be true, but I’m desperate enough to try anything

Matte black faucets seem to never leave any water marks compared to those shiny chrome ones. Brass towel bars will give some warmth to a white interior. I think that mixing different metals is the current trend so one can try something unusual without fear of perfection

A few other ideas that have crossed my mind lately are installing a mirror, getting a carpet, and perhaps buying some lighting fixtures. Such small steps can completely change the feeling of the house but without any mess of a major renovation

It is true though that I have not done anything yet since I am afraid to invest in some interior items and see that I ruined my house. I keep changing my mind by adding and removing items from the cart

But I’m almost there. I can feel it…

Has anyone else tried this kinda bathroom facelift instead of full reno approach? What was the one swap that made the biggest difference for you? I’d love to hear what worked… because I’m excited about the possibilities, but I’m also terrified of wasting money I don’t really have

What was the first real thing you ever bought with crypto?

For years, I treated crypto like something that just sat in a wallet.

Recently, I needed to renew a subscription and started wondering how many everyday things you can actually pay for with crypto now.

It made me realize how different the conversation around crypto is now compared to a few years ago. Now I'm more interested in actual usefulness.

I know some people have paid for flights, hotels, subscriptions, gaming stuff and all kinds of random purchases using crypto.

So I'm curious.

I forgot how weirdly expensive basic riding gear got till I started replacing mine

Just pulled my old jacket outta storage last weekend and the sleeve lining basically disintegrated in my hand lol. Felt like movie prop dust. I swear gear used to last longer? Or maybe i’m just old now.

Either way, every time I start looking around for replacements I end up closing tabs after seeing $400 helmets being described as “entry level.” like come on I just wanna ride but apparrently it's part of the "hobbies are for rich people" trend that's so popular nowadays. Half my garage budget goes to gear and tires instead of actual riding trips, it's so backwards.

So now I'm spending way too much time comparing random sites and sizing charts. Which places do you guys recommend that at least do some gear deals from time to time, or some decent clearances?

How are you managing your weekly football matches?

I play football with a few buddies every week, but it sometimes take a lot longer than it should to find an open pitch and get everyone on the same page. Just to lock in a location and time, it seems like a lot of communications are constantly being sent back and forth.

I've been looking for a more straightforward method to reserve fields and maintain organization. While looking for possibilities, I came upon catchcorner and wondered what other people were utilising.

For your games, how do you typically reserve a pitch? Have you discovered an app that genuinely simplifies the procedure?

Maybe this is neurotic, but does stress already show up physically for anyone else?

Not sure if this is just premed paranoia but I genuinely look more tired than I did a year ago. Bad sleep, constant screen time, reviewing biochem at 2am, thinking about applications nonstop. It adds up.

I know it sounds shallow compared to the actual pressure people deal with here, but looking exhausted affects how I carry myself in interviews and even just in daytoday interactions. Confidence is real and it matters.

Tried a few skincare things, nothing stuck.

Anyone else feel like the physical side of stress is something they actively have to manage during this process? Or do most people just push through and deal with it later?

Used cars in 2026 are a total scam lottery... anyone actually winning it?

Bought a 2020 Honda CR-V with 48k miles for $24,500 from a private seller. Looked decent at first but it was a nightmare, hidden rear damage from an unreported accident, transmission started slipping after a few months, and ended up costing me almost $4k in repairs before i gave up. Mechanic said it was basically a dead car with a polished up history.

Now im in the market again but this time i refuse to repeat the same mistake. I want something reliable that wont leave me broke and stressed. Been looking hard but everything feels sketchy lately. I occasionally check listings on vin decoders stuff when something catches my eye. But even with that, how do yall actually avoid the lemons and cleaned up salvage titles? Any real tips for spotting red flags before you buy? Or should i just go new and be done with it?

Tired of this crap, would appreciate some solid advice bros

Reading slumps happen to almost everyone. Sometimes it just takes one really engaging book to bring back the excitement of reading. Once that happens it’s easy to get back into the habit. What book helped you break a reading slump?
