Brand new defective fuel sending pump

I ordered this 22 gallon sending unit off eBay a while back as jegs was out of stock. Took it on a long road trip and while the gas gage would read at 1/4 full, it only used 10-11 gallons or the needle was almost on empty.

Now that I could finally ordered a jegs replacement, it finally reads correctly! At a 1/4 full on the gage, I just filled up 16 gallons! I used a Jegs 80-89 3-line sending unit so I could make it breath better from tank to charcoal canister.

eBay seller was so full of sh*t when I asked for help and asked if this was defective. It was! When the float arm was half way, it would only read 30-35 ohms out of 90. The Jegs 80-89 3-line sender unit would read perfectly at 45 ohms.

Window sticker

Finally made up a reproduction window sticker for my 87 SS. Did it all in MS paint. Really easy to do, good rainy / slow day project.

The 88 Super Sport.

Picked this up right before the pandemic started. I was looking for a truck and found it sitting in a field near my base. Was all sun faded and partially stripped. Knew something was special about it and once I confirmed the low miles and only had one owner I bought it.

Soon as I got it the pandemic kicked off and the Army told us to stay home/in our barracks for a month and half. So that gave me lots of time to replace anything I could on it myself in my barracks parking lot.

Been a work in progress for the last 6 years. Glad paint is all done with now. Replaced all the interior. Bushings. Added stripes/decals so people would stop chasing me down thinking it was a grand national, And more. Makes great gas mileage actually, average 20 mpg on the highway. Last is AC if that ever happens. Really just a summer fun car now.

Now has 98,000 confirmed miles.

1,100 mile road trip done

Just recently did a 1,100 / 18 hour total road trip with my freshly engine swapped 87 SS El Camino. Truck did great, averaged 18 mpg! Makes better gas mileage than my Dad’s 2014 Chevy truck now!

My set up is a 89-93 Vortec 350 engine, original 200r4, and original G80/GM8 Posi 2:56 rear end. I’m not breaking speed records here but if I need to pass slow people or punch it I can at least over the average driver.

Lessons learned on the trip. Need to figure out why my speedometer is off and trip odometer not working fully.

I swapped the fuel tank back to a 22gallon but the new fuel pump I got for it reads at 1/4 full when I still have 10+ gallons left in it, didn’t do that when it had a 17 gallon.

Figure out why my cruise control isn’t working after swapping everything.

The original 39 year old speakers went out so as soon as I got back I swapped them with Kickers I ordered and now they’re too loud 😆.

I think my craftec tonneau covered helped to improve MPG and those fuel additive bottles not so much.

Speedometer rebuild

Anyone have links to reputable people who can rebuild an original 85 mph speedometer? Tired of trying to fix mine.

Recent work

Been modding these since the 2000’s. Got back into it for fun as I still have bins filled with parts. Forgot I had some old rapid fire controllers in my parts bin from 15 years ago that needed work like the white controller with red & blue LEDs.

The Docs PS1 wireless controllers work but the lag is horrible. They work but suck, as expected with these. Trying to decide what to do with them.

First RGH

Just did my first! Haven’t done this since the JTAG exploit came out. I’m so happy I just soldered everything correctly and figured out some hick ups. Now just setting everything up!

Trinity motherboard. Used a pico pi v2.

Fun to fix up

Bought a small lot of phats and slims locally, here are two I fixed up. Haven’t worked on these since I was in High School back when these were at their peak.

All worked but needed some love to get going again. All but 3 needed new lasers, drive bands, and deep cleaning. Happy I got these working again after sitting for a long time! Changed out the RF board to blue main and back up error LEDs.

Eventually I want to RGH some of these but found I need a microscope to help more. So, looking for suggestions on that.

Drive it

Rain dosent bother me. Been driving rear wheel drive V8s all my life in all kinds of weather conditions.

They just recently sold that basic nothing special 87 on the stand, they were asking $27,000.

Only a few including me were brave enough to drive our classics in the rain to this event this morning. The majority of cars that did show up were all common modern sport cars. Booooring.

RHG Question

Haven’t hard modded one of these since when the JTAG mod came out so trying to figure out some basics first such as. What gauge wire do you all use to solder all the connections for Slims?

Never done a slim before and have 3 of them I’ve fixed up. Want to give this try to hard mod it. Also want to try modding some phat systems later.

Here is what I’ve ordered so far. Have two Raspberry Pie Picos already.

Getting back into it

Use to fix up and mod these back in the day to make a few extra bucks in high school. Recently getting back into it.

Picked up the Halo 3 console recently, haven’t had one since launch day. Was serviced by MS back in 2012, just needed a clean and has been working great since.

Also picked up a small lot of phats and slims I’m fixing up currently. It’s all fun to me getting these consoles working again!

Sometimes the simplest fix is the best

Picked up this H3 console yesterday, had open tray error/wont read a game. Opened it up today and just cleaned the dust and it works! Just waiting on my thermal paste to show up to clean that up.

Yes I realize I’m lucky here. Console was kept in great condition before me and not messed with. Factory seals were still on it so that helped. Console even had a nice smell when opened up like candles 😆. I’ll take that over roach sh*t, dead bugs, and cigarette smoke!

These are awful

Brand new. Sound like crap.

I’ve used them in the past for my other Gbodies and loved them. But holy crap these sound like they’re blown already. My stock speakers from 39 years ago that were starting to go out sound better than these. Going to return them.

What 3.5in speakers do you recommend?

Blast from the past Halo 3

Haven’t had one of these since launch day 19 years ago! Serviced by MS back in 2012! Didn’t expect the seller to include the special hard drive so that was a nice bonus! Console is super minty! Need to get to my storage and dig out my NOS Halo 3 controller to match!

Has the open tray error/can’t read games. But luckily I have new lasers on the way so can’t wait to get this console running again!

Works sometimes temperamental

NOS MS charging dock I got a couple weeks back, was still sealed until I opened it. Sometimes it will charge both battery packs and sometimes it won’t. Seems like the metal pins they connect to are not making contact correctly?

Anyone fix this issue before? I have another on the way just curious if I can do anything.

Blast from the past out

Parts are from 2008 - 2015. Forgot I had cool runner chip, mod controllers, JTAG stuff, and that halo 3 shell.

22 gallon installed

My 87 Super Sport originally came with one, someone swapped it to a 17, installed a new 22 gallon and love it! Tested it out today with a 2 hour drive and tank is still mostly full! My 17 would have been at half for that drive.

I used a two-post jack attachment which is way better than two separate jacks I’ve done before. Hardest part was getting the straps installed again but I found slightly longer bolts at my local hardware store to help.

It ain’t much

But I like it. My hobby work station.

Getting back into fixing up and modifying Xbox 360s. Picked up 6 consoles, cords, and controllers. So far all need cleaning and some need new lasers and drive bands. But all work! I don’t mind the work to do that for them! Just got this 2012 elite working from the lot, just needed to be cleaned and I found CoD Blops 1 and Advance warfare in the trays!

Next I need to get a hot air solder gun, any recommendations?

u/TraditionalDust6392 — 2 months ago

Highly recommend

If you’re a lone wolf like me needing 4 hands to do work, I highly recommend a two-post jack mount to remove and install your Gbody/El-Camino gas tank.
