Buying ski boots

Buying ski boots

I only recently started skiing, and this upcoming season will be my second season skiing on the East Coast. Last season, I skied mostly at Mont-Tremblant and Snowshoe in West Virginia, usually sticking to greens and blues on rental skis and boots. Toward the end of the season, I also tried a few black runs with a bit of a crying-baby face when things got icy! Altogether, I went downhill skiing around 15 times.
For this season, I’m interested in getting my own setup, but I’d also like to start getting into ski touring. My plan is to invest in a good pair of new boots that I can use for both downhill skiing and touring (more for downhill skiing), and then save some money by buying separate used downhill and touring skis.
I’m hoping to buy the boots soon, before the end-of-season/summer sales disappear and prices start going back up. I’ve also attached a screenshot with my foot measurements.
The problem is that I’m finding all the different boot types, bindings, compatibility standards, flex ratings, etc. pretty confusing as a beginner. I’m not really sure where to start or what kind of boot would make the most sense for someone at my level who wants to ski primarily at resorts but gradually get into touring as well.
I’d really appreciate any advice on what I should be looking for, especially when it comes to choosing the right boots and making sure they’ll work with both setups.

Post PRP three weeks.

I have been dealing with tendinitis for my elbow. My MRI reports read it as mild common extensor origin, tenis with slight under surface frame. I have been dealing with this since October 2025 and it’s been almost a year since I am injured. After months of performing physiotherapy, my progress had plateaud and only recently I opted for a PRP injection. I got the injection on July 14, 2026. Though the pain was bad, it was manageable and my arm kept on getting better three weeks in. Initially, my arm after the injection had limited range of motion, but now I have full range of motion in my arm.
Only a few days ago at the end of the third week, I lifted a small 6 to 7 pound, grocery bag for a few minutes, and my elbow felt much better. I also started typing a week ago, which had been a reason for flareups before the injection. Two weeks into the injection and a bit of typing on my keyboard, my elbow felt a bit tighter. The pain was manageable until last week to only see a flareup at the end of the third week. My pain is probably at the same level as it was before the injection today. Three weeks later, I do have some inflammation in my fingers, which shows the sign that the PRP injection is still working. Did any of you who had this injection or know about it Think this is normal? My doctor said it might need three months for the PRP to work, but at this point, I am confused if my injection has worked for me.

Physiotherapist or occupational therapist

Hi everyone,
I am soon moving to Ithaca at Cornell university and have been dealing with a chronic form of Tennis elbow. I recently received a PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection in my elbow for the same. With a hope that the injection fixes my Tennis elbow I soon need to look out for an occupational therapist or a physiotherapist. Do anybody have recommendations for them in the area?

Camping gear rentals at SFU.

Hi everyone,
I am a student at SFU and was looking to rent camping gear for a backpacking trip over a weekend. I was wondering if anyone knows any place to rent bagpacking gear from and if the university allows us to rent gear from them. I was previously at Georgetown where they allowed to do so!

Vancouver hikes and hiking groups!

Hi everyone,

I am a one month visitor at Vancouver where I am located at the Burnaby campus at SFU. I am an avid climber, hiker and an outdoors enthusiast who would love to sneak in some hikes while here! Unfortunately I dont have a car but would be interested in either joining groups but dont mind renting a car as well. Do you know of popular scenic hikes in the area or in the Canadian Rockies with possible scenic lakes which one can take a dip at? Also, are there any groups which offer drives to these places for a bit cheaper? Also dont mind if anyone wants to be Friends with a hiker.

Looking for getting a possible mover to help move.

Hi everyone,
I am looking to move to Ithaca soon with an injured arm which I need to rest. I was looking for someone who could help me carry my boxes to the apartment and help me build my furniture and setup my house. I was hoping to use somebody’s help and pay them as well. Do you know any leads or services who would help me do so without ripping me off?

Elbow Pain with months of physiotherapy.

I have been dealing with elbow pain which I got through climbing and it flares up while typing and after months of physiotherapy I have plateaued. My common extensor is always tight and I have tingling in there as well as in my fingers as well, possibly showing signs of nerve compression. A scalene stretch here gives me relief from the tightness in my elbow but only for a few minutes. Here is what my MRI said :
MRI Elbow Right Without Contrast

Reason for exam: Pain in joint

Clinical history: Elbow pain, lateral epicondylitis

Comparison: Radiographs dated 6/1/2026

Technique:
Multiplanar, multisequence MR imaging of the right elbow was performed. No intravenous contrast was administered.

Findings

Bones and joints

No acute fracture, osseous contusion, or stress response. No reactive bone marrow edema at the lateral epicondyle. No osteochondral lesion, high-grade chondrosis, or significant arthropathy. Alignment is anatomic. No elbow joint effusion. No intra-articular body. No evidence of osteonecrosis or erosion.

Ligaments

Ulnar collateral ligament (UCL): Intact.
Lateral collateral ligament complex: Radial collateral ligament (RCL), lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL), and annular ligament are intact.

Tendons

Common flexor-pronator origin: Intact. No significant tendinosis.
Common extensor origin: Mild tendinosis with slight undersurface fraying at the humeral attachment. No high-grade tear or well-defined fluid-signal intensity tendon defect. No significant peritendinous edema.
Biceps: Intact without evidence of tendinosis. No bicipitoradial bursitis.
Brachialis: Intact. No significant tendinosis.
Triceps: Intact. No significant tendinosis.

Muscles

No acute muscle strain or significant intramuscular edema. Normal muscle bulk without atrophy.

Other

Visualized nerves demonstrate normal signal, size, and morphology. No evidence of ulnar nerve subluxation or extrinsic mass effect at the cubital tunnel. No organized subcutaneous fluid collection or focal edema.

Impression

  1. Mild common extensor origin tendinosis with slight undersurface fraying. No high-grade tear, significant peritendinous edema, or reactive lateral epicondylar bone marrow edema.
  2. Additional findings described above.

One of the orthopedic surgeons suggested a PRP injection for this. Are there any other remedies which can help and is a PRP injection a good idea?

Dog spotted at St Mary’s Hall.

Somebody’s dog was seen outside of St Mary’s Hall at Georgetown University. I hope he/she gets to his/her owners. I was biking when this cute doggo sniffed me and was playful. I had to leave at the last minute but feel free to dm if I can help with anything more.

Moving to Ithaca looking for outdoorsy groups.

I will soon be moving to Ithaca for grad school at Cornell as a 27M with my car in the beginning of Fall 2026. While spending my last 5 years in Washington DC, I have grown to like a lot of outdoors sports involving getting out in nature.
I climb indoors regularly on weekdays mostly sticking to lead climbing and also climb outdoors. A new winter sport I have picked up is skiing which I intend to continue and also would love to try going into the backcountry starting next season. Apart from climbing, I love to bike and hike as well. Whole living in DC, I ended up making a community/ friends which would help me learn more about the outdoors and also just hangout in general and help me grow outside of graduate school.
I am writing this post as I intend to find the same community or even newer communities who could help me get out there and find new friends as well. I will soon be looking for a lead belayer and a possible friend at the Lindseth centre. In case anybody is looking to find an extrovert climber feel free to dm or even comment below. I would love to find people who could introduce me to more about skiing as well. How hard/easy would it be to meet such communities while in Ithaca and also where could I hope to meet like people.

Native Cinnamon Leche Colombia

I recently bought the Cinnamon Leche from Colombia and the roaster is Native! I was looking for recipes using a V60 on this one. As of now I am using a recipe which uses 15g in and 250 grams out with a 50 gram bloom and 2 pours of a 100 each! I don’t think this has been helping me extract much and would love to know if I can do better using any other recipe!

I am going to post here some speciality coffee places all should try while in DC if you don’t mind spending some extra money.

  1. I recently tried the Black Crown Collective at the Cannon House Building sticking to a pour over for the first time and an espresso for the second time. These were priced a bit higher but they had some insane clarity and mouthfeel unlike any other coffee in DC. I tried an espresso here today and it was the most amazing espresso of my life. It had bitterness and sweet cheery flavours all at the same time! They also sell Sey coffee beans which was something I was looking for in town. In case anybody knows any other business selling these beans do let me know.

  2. The pourover at Filter are slightly cheaper but still on the higher end at around 8 dollars.

  3. Nagaadi has their pourover and espresso priced just adequately but are open only on Saturdays and it’s a bit of a drive to Silver Spring, MD.

  4. Allelo Coffee is a great place to try pourovers as well.

Feel free to recommend other specialty coffee shops serving some fine espressos or pourovers!

I am not sure whats up with a DJ outside Epicurean at Georgetown University. But whoever set up this DJ with music playing at such levels is the biggest stupid ever. The music is setup next to the hospital with such loud music that it's annoying at this point! I am here in St. Mary's Hall and can barely work anymore!
