Overhearing Christians make fun of Mormons... very interesting...

My cubicle neighbor at work was talking with another coworker about how Mormon missionaries came to her house the day prior. She explained that she invited them into her house and that they had a civil argument. What i find hilarious is that she was telling the coworker how crazy the things that the Mormons believe and how they should try being Catholic. They both went on a long tangent about how insane people must be to believe the Mormon teachings. They are both openly Christian and talk about church regularly.

I'm no defender of mormonism, but the hypocrisy is very interesting...

Has anyone else noticed that people have gotten ruder in the last 5ish years?

I feel like people weren't always so awful. I have always believed the principle that 33% of people are nice, 33% depends on the situation, and 33% absolutely suck.

I feel like we are getting into 20/20/60 territory now...

What has your experience been?

Let's get away from RIR

This will never change in my lifetime I'm sure of it but RIR as the sole metric for safety has ruined the industry. Companies will treat a wrist strain with a "rigid brace" as defcon level 1... significant near misses? - severely underreported. Let's actually get better at safety instead of punishing people for minor incidents. Worst thing is that when you start reporting those near misses they do nothing but make your life worse for highlighting those opportunities for improvement. It has become performative at this point.

How much money have you spent on disc golf?

Just curious, I've been hooked to the sport for about 2 years now. Off the top of my head I think I've spent around $500-$700 on the sport (discs, bags, etc.).

Curious how much others of spent. I also have no plan in stopping to spend money on discs lol

Framing around windows pools water - concern?

We had 25 year old windows, most of the seals were bad and we discovered that a security system installed many years prior to us living there was causing rot underneath them. We recently had a company come out and install new windows and repair the rot. The gap between the siding and the new windows was slightly too big so they added some aluminum framing around each window with J channel attatched to it. They used a liberal amount of silicone and flashing when they installed the windows.

We just had a rain storm last night and I came out this morning and saw that some of the windows had some water pooling against the frames. While there is silicone and im sure its preventing issues now, is this a concern in the future?

Thank you,

The stream of BS from corporate America

I am at a loss for words. The modern corporation functions as a large hill with a cannon on top. This cannon is filled with bullshit (quite literally). You have to try to climb this hill while be showered with loads and loads of this bullshit. Sometimes you try to shield the people below you from this bullshit but at the end of the day youre gonna have to shovel it down right on them. Someone's constantly drowning in bullshit and everyone's got it on them.

I swear to god the next time I hear the term "Key improvement indicator" or "jumping off point" I'm gonna loose my ever loving mind. The fact that corporate slop zombies actually believe this nonsense makes me loose faith for humanity.

I dont understand how I can do this for another 30-40 years. Hell exists and its a 6x6' cube with two monitors on it.

Getting gifted junk and clutter

My family has a habit of gift giving for every occasion, without sounding like an ungrateful POS, they believe in quantity over quality. Almost everything is some bulky household gadget from temu or the cheapest junk available on the internet.

Often times its things that we already own or dont even remotely need. I have very limited storage and cant stand clutter, but the second you get rid of something then its taken personally and considered offensive.

They've asked what I wanted in the past and I gave them a specific product that was something I actually wanted, they then got the cheapest garbage version of that. I ended up getting rid of it and buying the actual thing I wanted to begin with.

Ive been very honest that I think we should just exchange nice cards for the holidays, and I dont need anything. Im a minimalist and despise clutter. Ive said that if they really want to get me something then I love experiences and or restaurant gift cards. Then we still get ikea tote bags full of temu Chinese junk. I have a corner in my basement just full of this stuff. And it makes me feel wasteful throwing it...

Touchscreen on newer models

My company car is a new subaru legacy, my god I have never seen a worse touch screen and user interface in my entire life. Half of the climate controls being touch screen and half button is WILD. Not to mention the lag on this thing is criminal.

I like Subarus in general but what the heck were they smoking when they designed the touch screen?

How to navigate golden handcuffs?

For reference I work for a massive fortune 500 manufacturing company with hundreds of locations domestic and internationally. I know that I am lucky to have a position making decent money, but I have been feeling this numbness at work that is hard to describe. For a year I was doing two full time positions (forced to during a slow time for the business) and got some "bubble assignment" pay. That ended a year ago when I put in my two weeks and got offered another job (lateral position but just doing one job at better pay).

My company responded to my two week notice by finally dropping the bubble assignment and offering me a massive promotion overseeing two manufacturing locations for my function with a 35% raise in the counter offer. I ended up taking the counter offer since it was a huge sum of money and shit is REALLY expensive right now. For reference I started 4 years ago making 40k less than I do now there. Im making over six figures, it would be unlikely for me to make that amount of money if I left and got a job somewhere else.

That being said when I was doing the two jobs I was working 60+hrs a week and so burntout it was affecting my health and relationships, I was like a different person then. Fast forward to today I am quite stressed all the time but its somewhat manageable. I still have this empty numbness at work, where I cant give a shit about anything ever. I probably give a B- performance and they seem to think thats above and beyond.

I hate to complain but I feel like my job is soul sucking. I no longer feel existential dread in the morning commute, not I just feel like a zombie. The company basically told me that they see a future career with me there and that it would be an absolute terrible idea to move, they promise future positions that would have excellent pay (but im sure the stress would be unreal). Most of the people I know in those positions have zero work life balance, like taking a zoom call during your kids baseball game type stuff. My wife wants to have a kid in the near future but I feel lost in my career, do I really want to be an absentee parent and/or have this dead inside feeling all the time?

Is this normal? At what point are the golden handcuffs and promises of future success just not worth it anymore?

Floating floors suck

I am so pissed, just spent literally 3 hours leveling the subfloor PERFECTLY (apparently not) and another entire day installing this lvp and there's FREAKING HALLOW SPOTS WTF!?!?!?!

I made a bad choice. Never doing a floating floor ever again. God forbid there is a microscopic difference in the level of the subfloor and the whole project is in the shitter...

Ideas to cover this up?

I got this eagle tattooed on my chest when I was 18. 11 years later I am living with it but also dont really love it. I have really been thinking about covering it up. Laser sounds painful and expensive.

Anyone have any ideas of some designs that could cover this up?

Offered to be a surrogate for our baby

Yeah so... MIL has been hammering us nonstop about "giving her the grandbabies", and has been gifting baby clothes, toys and books every single time we see her....

We have a timeline for having kids and we are focusing on traveling, careers, and each other right now. We will probably want to start considering children in around a year or so but thats none of her business. I have been polite about it but she DOESNT STOP. She has no regard for boundaries you are trying to establish.

One of the craziest things is she told my wife that she should go off birth control without telling me (supposedly it was a "joke"). My wife would never do this and told me right away. This makes me loose any shred of trust I may have had for MIL...

Yesterday we went over for mother's day and she told my wife "you better start trying to have kids soon because I dont know how much longer I would have to be a surrogate for you if you find out you cant conceive".

I found out after the fact... WTF!?!

Is that not the most bat-shit coo-coo for cocoa puffs shit you've ever heard? Thats an absolute nightmare scenario and I am against it with every fiber of my being. Am I crazy?
