Gar Shatterkeel is a human?

I was trying to find out what species Gar Shatterkeel is, and everything I'm seeing makes it sound like he is a human? According to his official stat block, it says human, but he's resistant to cold, has blue skin, can breathe underwater, is covered in barnacles, and has a crab arm? How is he human?

TIL that these characters are all played by the same actor

Jacob Merrick - Reacher

Eli - The Girl Next Door

Linderman - Freddy vs Jason

Big Red Machine? (possible S4 spoiler)

Twice during episode 3 so far Reacher has mentioned something called The Big Red Machine. The first time is when they showed up at the reporters Loft and the second time is when they showed up at the bowling alley.

Maybe I missed it but did they explain what that means? My first instinct was to think that it was something related to Russia but I don't remember them mentioning any Russians.

I feel stupid but can someone explain it?

Why Philadelphia?

I saw another post yesterday or the day before asking about the reason why certain names were changed when it doesn't really seem to matter, but I'm more curious why they decided to move the story from New York to Philadelphia. It doesn't really seem to have much of an effect on the storyline so I'm just curious, was it just a matter of stock footage of the sky lines was cheaper to get in Philly than it was in New York or something like that? It made sense to me that when people were coming in to the country from Europe more than likely they would be coming into New York so it was a natural place for the story to occur.

Is Fanatics really just sending out iron-ons?

I finally got my Team USA Jersey today that I ordered back in February and I was pretty disappointed to see that the numbers and letters are all just like iron on heat transfer vinyl considering that the item listing says that it uses stitched on applique. There's definitely no stitching here.

Pretty disappointing for something that cost $230. Do I have any recourse?

EDIT after auto-warning: I'm not suggesting this is counterfeit I'm suggesting that it is a piece of crap.

Did anyone know we already have Flock Cameras in Nashua?

This always seemed like a "that's happening in far-away places but not here" type of thing to me. I guess not.

Why does NPD need to record the licence plates of every vehicle that drives past CVS?

Does turning traffic on a green light have the right of way?

This is a big dispute at my workplace. At this intersection, when the traffic from the north has the green light, everyone else is red.

As you can see by the arrows, the traffic from the north in their left lane can go straight or turn left (blue arrow).

Right-turning traffic from the south (purple arrow) splits off and has a yield sign.

Slightly off the screen to the right is another major 4-lane intersection where the majority of the traffic turns right in the furthest right 2 lanes, so what happens often times is that the blue arrow traffic makes the turn and ends up in the far right lane as drawn because they are preparing to turn right at the next light (approx 1/4 mile).

So the question is, does the purple arrow traffic have to yield to the blue arrow traffic because of their yield sign and the blue arrow traffic having the green light, or does the purple arrow traffic have the right of way because the blue arrow traffic is supposed to exit the intersection in the left lane?

If it matters, this is in New Hampshire.

Questions about 'Odd Hours'

I just re-read 'Odd Hours' for the 2nd time, and two things confused me.

  1. When Odd first meets the dog and then brings him to the church, the priest asks him the dog's name and he says "Raphael" and then adds something to the effect of "I didn't understand why I chose that name until later" but then never elaborates. What is the significance of that name?

  2. Towards the end, after dispersing the mystical coyote horde, as Odd is trying to put the triggers in the Salvation Army bin and he comments on their increased mass, he says something like "I realized the increased weight was the same as the coyotes, and the strange lights and sounds under the manhole cover, and the mysterious swinging porch swing" and he just like, decided not to believe it anymore and then they weren't heavy anymore. Was the implication that there was some metaphysical outside force or forces trying to stop him from stopping the plot? What was the deal with the porch swing, and the manhole cover, and for that matter, the coyotes?

Also, now that I've finished reading 'Hours', I intend to finish the series, as I've never read "Apocalypse', 'Deeply', or 'Saint', but do they ever explain why Annamarie is so special (and wierd) and knows about Stormy? Is she, like, Stormy's spirit reincarnated or something? (if they do explain it later, I don't want to know, lol)

Browser Error Loading Maps VTT?

I got a new laptop and now when I try to open Maps I get an error message that says "We've detected that hardware acceleration is turned off for your browser" and there's a link that shows a quick tutorial on how to turn it on.

Only problem is that it is already on. I've tried re-installing Chrome, tried Edge, Firefox, and Duck Duck Go, and gotten the same message every time.

Since it's every browser, I wonder if it's something in my graphics card? Any ideas?

How do I gently guide my players away from things they're not ready for yet?

I've been using this chart https://imgur.com/tvyLuDP as a guide for what level the party should be before tackling certain things, and it's been working great.

Early in the game, as the party was first encountering the cults and their keeps, I wanted a way to make sure they didn't go too far too soon and enter the temples before they were strong enough, so I made it so each temple's entrance required a "key" to open, and they just didn't find the keys until it was time to find them.

Now they're further along in the story, and they're starting to clear the first temple, but I'm worried they're going to clear the temple and then go right into the node and then maybe even into the Eye before they're ready.

How can I persuade them not to, without railroading them? I prefer narrative devices like the keys as opposed to just saying "you can't go there yet" and what I really like is when they think it was their idea in the first place.

So I'm looking for a narrative reason or reasons why the group might, as an example, defeat the Air Temple but then leave and go to the Water Temple instead of entering the Node.

What is required to complete a walk-off base hit? (OBR)

Had a Legion game last night, I was BU. Bottom of the 7th, tie game, bases loaded, 1 out. Defensive coach brought his outfield way in, figuring a deep fly ball is going to score the run from 3rd anyway, so he's trying to take away a short hit.

Anyway, the batter nukes one 100 feet over the left fielder's head. R3 scores easily. Team starts celebrating, but some of the offensive kids are screaming at R2 to go touch 3rd base. He did, and there was no issue, but his 3rd base coach was looking at me and asking, "Why does he have to touch? The game is over?" and I just replied, "I didn't tell him he had to touch", which was true.

It got me thinking: what are the requirements to completing a game-ending base hit? Obviously, R3 needs to touch home plate, but you could make a compelling argument that the play is over as soon as that happens, and nothing else matters. However, I always thought that the BR has to touch first base to complete his AB, but I'm not 100% confident if that's actually true. What about the other runners? Does R1 have to touch 2nd, and does R2 have to touch 3rd? If they don't, can that be legally appealed by the defensive team?

Is this the least informative headline you've ever seen?

Certainly a statement like this has always been true for every state since the dawn of time? I wonder how much this "report" cost?

Episodes out of order?

In S04E06 - Advanced Documentary Filmmaking, Annie tells Britta she's using cheap glitter and shows here the "Welcome Archie" banner she made, but they didn't know who Archie was or that he was coming until S04E07 - Economics of Marine Biology. Are these episodes out of order? I noticed similar things happened in earlier seasons as well.

Public Service Announcement for Youth Coaches

Coaches,

Can you try to agree to stop saying the following phrases:

After a called strike on your hitter:
"Not yours!"
"Wait for a good one!"
"We don't swing at those!"
"That was a ball when we were pitching!"

After a called ball on your pitcher:
"Good miss!"
"Keep throwing strikes!"
"Live there, that's your spot!"
"That was a strike when we were hitting!"

After a safe call against your defense:
"That's ok buddy, we'll get 4 outs this inning"
"Don't worry, he looked out from here!"

After an out call against your runner:
"Nah, you were safe buddy, blue just wants to go home early"

All you are teaching your kids is "the umpire is wrong, make sure we argue every single call!"

Defense thinks there's 3 outs and leaves the field

Curious if I handled this right.

Working a LL Majors game (12u) and their local rule has a 5-run per inning limit. Home team is in the field with an 8-0 lead in the 5th and the visiting team starts to rally; gets a run or two.

At one point, there is R2 only with no outs. Ground ball to 3rd, 3B fields, and runs over to his base and steps on the base thinking he has a force (he doesn't, no one is at 1st).

A play or two later, now we have bases loaded, still no one out. BR hits a lazy liner to 2B, who catches it and then flips to 1B to double off the runner who did not tag up. At this point, the defense starts whooping and hollering, and they all run off the field.

I realize the defense thinks they have 3 outs, so I just hold up 2 fingers ✌️. 3rd base coach keeps sending his runners around and home, and I make sure they all touch. 5th run crosses the plate, I call time and end the inning.

At this point, I go to the home coach since he has the official book as the home team and let him know that there were only two outs and the runners all scored until the 5th run crossed. He swears there was 3 outs until he looks back and realizes he was counting the non-out at 3rd I mentioned earlier. No animosity or anything, he realizes his mistake.

My question is, should I have done anything differently? I feel like if I were any more demonstrative about the number of outs, like yelling out "guys, that's only 2!" or whatever, then I'm now influencing the action. It's the coach and players' responsibility to know how many outs there are, right?

Variable Ring of Resistance

How broken would it be (if at all) to homebrew a version of a Ring of Resistance that the user could choose the damage type? Like say, after a long rest, swap one gem for another and now instead of resistance to fire it's resistance to cold, or whatever. It's still only one type at a time and you wouldn't be able to change it on the fly.

Workshop it with me, are them any major downsides I'm overlooking? Any suggestions on how to make it better/different?

Just when I thought I had seen it all...

Local rec league (majors). The home team has a speaker, and some mom is doing the travel ball thing, playing music in between innings.

Dad from the visiting team comes to the backstop in between innings and calls me over and says, "Can you make them stop playing that damn ghetto music? It's offensive!"

The song was "All I Do is Win"
