Folk horror audiobooks

Hi, horror community!

I have 3 unused Audible credits that I've set my mind on spending for horror books. Strong preference for folk horror, leaning more toward the European folk stuff, but American is also welcome!

I would highly appreciate recommendations!

Duster 1.2 130/140 reliability

Hi community!

I'm very likely going to buy a new 1.2L Duster, either the 130 or 140 variant.

I've heard mixed opinions online about the reliability of new 1.2L engines Dacia is using.

For context - I do about 30-35k km a yer, driving around central Europe, 70/30 motorway/countryside. Very little to almost no city driving.

S3 work boots with a heritage look under 200€ in Europe.

As title says, I'm looking for a pair of S3 work boots, under 200€, available and shipped from the EU. Heritage look being a rather loose description - I just prefer them looking like normal boots rather than some weird amalgamation of hiking and techwear.

How to deal with car anxiety?

I'm not sure which flair to use haha.

As the tittle suggests, I have quite a lot of anxiety over my car. Although I truly love it, it's a brilliant car (a 2006 Nissa X-Trail 2.2 DCI), it is unmistakably old and has nearly 400.000 km on the clock.

Me and my partner recently started working abroad, which means we have to do long drives of 1000-1400 km a couple of times a year, along with 300-400 km drives every few weeks. And I'm simply quite nervous that we will be left stranded somewhere because of some mechanical failure.

I have had the car in and out of the workshops probably half a dozen times over the past half a year. I had the front suspension replaced, the control arms, wheel bearings (which started failing on me during the long drives), etc. And although aside from the parts I mentioned and an ABS sensor which was accidentally broken during the suspension replacement, the car hadn't failed me yet.

But when I drive it, I can't help but feel every minute vibration and hear every noise and think: "This is it, it's gone for good now." I am very afraid of being left stranded somewhere, or having a sudden catastrophic failure which could be very dangerous.

We will replace it within the next half a year for a completely new car which will give me more peace of mind.

I'm hoping some people here have been in my shoes and have some advice to share on how to deal with this anxiety. Thank you!

Confusion about engines.

Next year, I'm looking to purchase a new Duster. From what I understand, I'll probably go for the 1.2 TCE 140 model. But I'll be honest I'm extremely confused at the engine options, fuel systems and reliability.

Firstly, is the 1.2 TCE 140 a primarily petrol engine with a small battery to assist in taking off and accelerating?

Which engines have an LPG system? I thought it was just the 1.0/1.2 ECO-G engines but I keep seeing comments that other engines have LPG as well.

Is the 2026 and onward 1.2 petrol engine still an unreliable mess with timing chain issues?

Which Dacia to go for?

Sometime within the next year, I will be purchasing a new Dacia. I already owned a 2014 Sandero Stepway and honestly I loved it, it was a plucky little car that made all kinds of concerning noises but never let me down. Currently I have a 2006 Nissan X-Trail 2.2 DCI, a car I'm absolutely in love with, but I am in need of a newer car.

Multiple times a year, I do journeys of 1000-1200 km on motorways, through Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Poland. I also work in archaeology and often end up driving on unpaved roads or construction sites. Though nothing that would necessarily warrant a 4x4 car.

Therefore I need a car that has good ground clearance, large luggage capacity, enough power to make 130km/h comfortable on the motorway and something with long term reliability with proper maintenence of course. I'm hoping to get 300.000km out of the car before replacing it.

My thoughts are on the Duster, Bigster or possibly even the new Striker, though the latter might be out of budget for me. I am not sure though which engine option would be best and what the long term reliability of these cars is, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Chirping noise in 2005 Nissan X-Trail

Hello!

My 2005 X-trail, with the 2.2 DCI engine and manual gearbox, has had a strange chirping noise since I got it a few months ago.

It happens only when accelerating, particularly in gears above 3rd. Basically, whenever I for example change gear, and then lightly step on the gas pedal, the noise appears briefly for a few seconds before disappearing. It happens also when just generally accelerating, even with very light gas pedal pressing and always at most for a few seconds.

It's a fast paced chirp-chirp-chirp noise, coming from the engine bay and is much more noticeable outside, i.e. when the window is down.

The noise hasn't gotten noticeably worse over 5 months ans thousands of kilometres driving, sometimes even on 7 hour journeys.

The car has some known issues, so some might be related. The lower engine mounts are a bit wobbly and I'll replace them within two months maximum. The clutch biting point is quite high but I've been told by multiple mechanics it likely still has a lot of life in it. The CV joint has play in it, but I drive the car in 2WD, not Auto, so it doesn't spin.

Other than that - I also had my alternator and timing belt replaced three months ago.
