Do I need new spark plugs

Just got my spark plugs changed for my civic this past February. And I’ve had my car inspected by 4 different shops (3 of them being independent owned Midas an 1 highly rated shop in my area) 2 Midas said I don’t need to change them out, while the third Midas and other shop said I need to change them. Thoughts on what I should I do with this situation??

First Car Yes/No??

I was looking at a 2022 Nissan Altima with 90k miles on it. I already knew this was a lot when considering, but my decision has to be made tomorrow. Point of the post is, Am I going to end up regretting this decision in the long run? Is the transmission as bad as people say? Will it quit on me at 100k miles? Lmk if I should try to look for another or not.

Mileage Discrepancy

I found a car with a rebuilt title. It looks and drives nice.According to the dashboard and seller it has about 81k miles. When I put the VIN in the Honda site, so I can do a PPI, it automatically populated 158k miles. Before I waste my time/money getting a PPI, is there any non-shady reason why these numbers don't match?

Edit: The other sub I posted this in already crushed my dream of there being a mistake on Hondas side 😥 But if anyone can restore my faith in this car please be my guest, I was really hoping my car search was over...

Should I put the money into my car to repair or invest in a newer one?

I currently own a 2004 Pontiac Vibe. For general background I’ve had the car for 11 years now and it is currently at 187,355 miles. For the most part in the last 8 ish years I’ve had to do little to no repairs outside of basic maintenance such as oil changes, battery, tires and brakes. So in more recent years I’ve had to get bigger parts fixed. Overall nothing ever more than 2k a year from what I remember. But so far this year since January I have put in 2.4k into the car with bigger repairs. My check engine light came on and I’m being told most likely I need my ECM fixed. With my car being older and possibly needing the part ordered it could cost up to 2.5k to get fixed. Which would put me at almost 5k in repairs in less than 6 months. At this point I’m conflicted on whether I just fix the part ordered or look into getting another car sooner rather than later. Obviously there’s plus sides to an older car such as cheap insurance and no car payment but I also don’t want it to turn into an endless money pit. Any advice would be appreciated!

What would be a good year for a first car?

I am currently trying to figure out which year and type of accord to get for a first car. I want something that is reliable to last me a good amount of years while i save for another. I do not want to break the bank of course, I do not have car money yet, I am just looking to figure out how much more I need to save in order to purchase the car. If you have any suggestions please leave the price range and all the other information such as acceptable mileage to buy the car at. Thank You!

Need advice on buying a used car

Hey everyone, I had the misfortune of losing my 2007 corolla to a driver who wasn't paying attention making a turn, and my insurance decided that the car is too old to repair.

So I'm looking to get a used car and I've narrowed it down to a few options:

  1. 2019 Honda Civic Touring

https://www.autosmartyeg.com/vehicle-details/2019-honda-civic-touring-sedan-d1228158dd17462baee428ed1ecceb35

  1. 2019 Honda Accord Touring

https://www.autosmartyeg.com/vehicle-details/2019-honda-accord-touring-sedan-f56d8adc376c4fd89f657737c0895a2b

  1. 2020 Nissan Rogue S

https://pclauto.com/cars/used/2020-nissan-rogue-552007

  1. 2022 Kia Forte LX

https://pclauto.com/cars/used/2022-kia-forte-520250

  1. 2018 Nissan Altima S

https://pclauto.com/cars/used/2018-nissan-altima-379758

All the prices are in Canadian dollars, I wanted ask based on the reliability of each model, their fuel economy, the cost of parts and maintenance, and their performance in winter, which option is my best choice?

Slight bend in the rim, is it that big of a deal?

This morning I almost got into an accident and had to swerve and hit a curb. It left this very small dent in the outer rim and there’s no air leakage from what I can tell. It’s a 2009 Camry for reference and I really don’t have a ton of money I can spend right now. If it’s dire and a huge safety risk I can try to get it fixed, or if there’s something easy at home I can do to fix it I could. But if it’s not a big deal and mostly cosmetic, am I cool to just not worry about it?Thanks!

Scraping when driving low speeds Volvo XC60

Have noticed a scraping sound when driving at low speeds and when checking the rear drivers side wheel , I noticed the metal plate that the rear brake touches is very scratched in comparison to the other ones. Any advice on whether it's a cheap fix and if this is causing irreversible damage? TIA

My grandfather's car battery isn't charging.

On monday, my grandfather's car battery stopped charging. On tuesday, he replaced the car battery but that didn't help. Yesterday, he went into dobbs, where the van currently is, but so far they don't know what the problem is. What could it be?

Headlight Replacement Recommendations??

I have a 2012 Subaru Outback 2.5 Limited with terrible headlights. The visibility is horrible and I can hardly see at night. My mechanic quoted me almost $1600 to replace them so I am going to replace them on my own because it looks fairly simple. I’ve been looking into the best places to get the headlights and i’ve found some mixed reviews online. Right now i’m in between purchasing them from carparts.com, Headlights Depot, and RockAuto. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where the best place to purchase them would be? I’m not looking for anything fancy, just something that will give me better visibility and ideally for less than $800. I would appreciate any advice!

How do I transfer a loan

Hi everyone! I currently have a 2018 Kia forte under my parent’s name. We bought it in 2023 and I have been paying it since day 1. I currently owe about 5k and have recently been paying 1k every month. My dad told me he needed the car off his name and that I need to apply for a loan so I can have the car in my name and help raise my credit score. My bank is Ally and idek where to start when it comes to applying. I would love some feedback on how to start.

Pushpin in tyre, pulled it out and there seemed to be a leak, but no loss of PSI and the leak doesn't seem to be happening anymore?

Hey! I was washing my car and found a pushpin in the shoulder of my tyre (and it was only a month and a few days old too 😭😭). I'm based in Australia, so afaik (and according to the few tyre shops that I phoned up) it's illegal for reputable folks to repair because it's too close to the bloody sidewall.

I'm probably a bit dumb for doing this, but I did the detergent test to check if the tyre had been punctured enough to spring a leak - it didn't seem to show anything under the pin, so I carefully pulled it out. Immediately before that, I'd checked the tyre in question on the dash and it read that it was at 270 kPa (maybe 20 higher than standard for a Mazda 3? I hadn't put air into it since I got the new tyres from the shop so I assume that's close to what it had been out of the shop). The opposite healthy tyre was 260.

I shone a light on where the puncture was after pulling the pin, and there appeared to be tiny bubbles foaming out slowly from where the puncture was. That's what the video is of. Sorry my camera works a bit shit 😅 was in a silent bummed frenzy when I saw the foam come out, so I didn't think to record a better video cos I assumed the tyre was done for regardless.

It was pretty late at this point, so I decided to leave it for the next day, but when I went to check it, the car had lost no pressure, still sitting at 270 kPa. When I sprayed the tyre again in the exact spot, I could see no leak.

I imagine that I'll probably still have to mount the spare, drive out and shell out the big bucks to get it replaced, but would love to get some opinions on this. Doesn't hurt to ask 🤷‍♀️ I feel like a bit of an idiot so I'd really appreciate any help or experience. Do I need to get it replaced and, if so, do you think that it's okay to drive on to the tyre shop 2km away? Or do you think this could possibly be repaired? Or am I missing something completely that I haven't considered 😅?

Thank you so much, really appreciate any help! Feel free to call me out if what I did was stupid, cos I would really love to know what best practice should be the next time it happens.

Strange smell from car

I’ve noticed for the past month or so that my car seems to smell like weed. I have had the car for nearly 3 years and it never smelt like weed until recently and I don’t smoke, nor has anyone smoked in my car.

I had my car valeted and that seemed to get rid of the smell inside the car, however when I am driving with the windows open, I can smell it wafting in. There is no smell when driving with windows closed.

Any idea what this could be? I have checked the cabin air filter and that is clean and doesn’t smell (was only changed in October)

Is it safe to drive cross country without a bumper cover?

I bottomed out my car and the bumper completely came off. I start a new job in a city 12 hours away next week. I got quoted $4000 to ship my car. Do you think that driving on the highway for 12 hours is safe with it in this condition or should I just bite the bullet and ship it? I would get it fixed in my current city, but it's a very small town so prices are higher and they told me it could take up to two months which I dont have the time for. Thanks!

Car’s a rust bucket, should I buy a new one or not?

For context, I live in Scotland, so yes, we do salt the roads in the winter, and yes, that causes huge amounts of rust.

I passed my driving test about 2 months ago, 2 days later I bought a Honda Jazz (Or Honda Fit for the countries outside of UK) for £2.9k. Except I made a big mistake of not checking under the car before paying for it.

About a week ago I went to my mechanic for a small problem, and he showed me all the rust underneath.

I’m now considering to replace her, but still, I love her so much. The MOT lasts until next February, so still about 10 months of legality on this car, but after that there’s no way it will be legal to drive.

If I was to replace it now, what the car sells for, would be my budget, let’s say around £2.3k. If I wait until next February, I might have an extra £3k to play with, but then the car would worth absolutely nothing or someone buys it dead cheap, or I might have to pay someone to scrap it.

As car owners yourself, what would you do in this situation? Get a new one now, or wait until the MOT runs out and get a new one then?

Deer Collision

My wife nailed a deer/deer ran into her last night. Damage as pictured. 2016 Highlander.

We were talking about getting a new vehicle for her. Curious if anyone has any opinions on what we should do as my thoughts were:

  1. Buy new vehicle. Get whatever dealership will offer for a trade knowing they have to repair but the car has no other issues whatsoever
  2. Get quote for repairs & have fixed then search for new vehicle when fixed. Probably turn in to insurance since we have a $500 deductible & no other claims in the last 15+ years.
  3. Get quote for repair. Take to dealership knowing how much retail repair would cost to make bargaining for new vehicle more straightforward.

Open to any other suggestions. Thanks in advance

Is this S80 worth the risk?

So im looking for a cheap good condition car that I can buy and have fixed up for a reliable daily, and I came across this 2014 S80 3.2, the seller doesnt have too much info about the car, and when I googled the issue it came up with a few different possibilities for the "crank but no start" problem, so basically im just trying to see if this car is worth the asking price for what might need to be done to it, I would likely be bringing it to a shop to have the work done.

TIA

Here's the Facebook link to the car (https://www.facebook.com/share/1EUNFCRAGA/)
