Brown dating in Utah

hi all, just moved to Utah County for a job. So I’m not in SLC but more south. it’s just me by myself and I’m currently renting a room.

Was curious if there was anyone else living near here that had advice for dating and making friends. I don’t only want brown friends, but im from Michigan and miss the brown folks.

i was considering getting a dating app like DilMil or Hinge to meet women and stuff. Using these apps as an avenue to make friends or a friend group. is this a good plan?

any other advice? (I’m not Mormon or Christian)

New to the Crosstrek Fam!

hi folks, I have a 2026 Crosstrek now…well technically I just leased one at a dealership in Utah. Excited! I really like the car and feel more comfortable going into my first Utah winter knowing I have a Crosstrek.

I did lease it because used car market is booty and couldn’t find anything good (I’m the guy that got a CRV EX-L with 70k miles for 25k from Carmax lol. Returned it though). I’m a new grad starting a new job away from home so was nervous to take out a 20k car loan without knowing job stability. I know it may not be the best financial decision but Crosstreks hold their value I heard.

Any tips or advice? Regarding leasing as well I guess lol. Excited to join the Crosstrek fam yo!

Got cooked at CarMax today

Got a 2017 CRV EX-L with 70k miles for 25k OTD at CarMax. 23k sticker price. Looking online and seeing that this model had a lot of issues, in particular the oil dilution. I live in Utah so it gets pretty cold and snows a lot on the winter. It’s also the first of its generation which means more issues than normal.

Taking it for a PPI tomorrow. Thinking of taking it back but used cars are so booty right now I’m not gonna find a steal or anything.

25k for an almost 10 year old CRV? is that how the market is? Should I buy new if it is like 5k more?

Edit: Am a new grad moving away from home and making 80k.

Edit 2: Looks like this is the market for new.

Moving from Michigan to Lehi / Eagle Mountain area. Need help on what car to buy

Moving out for the first time at 22. Need advice on leasing, buying used or buying new. I know buying new is a bad idea, but Ive read that the used market is bad right now and you might actually save money by buying new. Looking for guidance regarding this. I will be making decent money but want as little of my paycheck to go to car payments as possible.

Also, need advice on what drivetrain to get. I would prefer a small cheap car but worried a RWD or FWD would lack the power needed for the hilly roads in the winter especially. Was looking at Subaru Crosstrek, but they seem expensive. Any underrated reliable, cheaper, older alternatives I should target?

It feels like I lose regardless of which way I get a car lol. Never realized how bad it was. Feels like the consumer has no advantage at all.

Moving to SLC area from Michigan. Would love some advice!

Hi all!

I’m a south Asian single guy in my 20s moving from Detroit, Michigan to the Salt Lake City area soon for a new job located in Eagle Mountain. Since I'm entirely new to Utah, I’d love some advice on the best areas to look for housing.

Here is a bit about what I’m looking for:

Commute: I’d really prefer a shorter, less stressful commute. I know Eagle Mountain is a bit out there, so I'm trying to figure out where the best balance is between a reasonable drive and a good area to live.

Housing & Budget: I don’t need a ton of space or luxury accommodations, and I am completely open to having a roommate to keep costs down.

Social Life & Culture: Not really a social or nightlife kind of guy, but any tips on this would be appreciated! I enjoy going to the library on college campuses to study. I love the academic environment.

Given this, should I look closer to Eagle Mountain itself, or is it worth living a bit further north toward SLC? Any specific apartment complexes, neighborhoods, or local Facebook groups for roommates you'd recommend would be amazing. I am also moving light so not bringing much with me.

Any other advice or tips in regards to living in Utah would also be nice! Thank you!

Which job offer should I choose?

hi all! recent grad here and I am considering two job offers right now. these will be my first full time roles out of college.

the first is a full time event support it technician. I already do this part time and it is not too bad. it‘s basically being at venues and supporting their IT when they have a concert or sporting event. Not sure I want to continue this full time though since I feel that the entertainment industry is very social and outgoing and I am very reserved and quiet.

the second is a tier 1 helpdesk job for a dod contractor. I feel the environment for a defense contractor will be more structured and not as outgoing as entertainment. might be wrong though. i like the job security as aspect of it and potentially getting a clearance. I feel I value job security more than anything as I want to have a family when I am older. I also get to move away from home for this and am excited to become independent.

money is about the same for these positions. thank you!
