Nightcrawler full dive melee support concept
I took the gif from this (https://youtu.be/bQnLnbuCbjY?si=miFVxTNN3lnV1VdM)
I’ve been thinking about what Nightcrawler could be like if he ends up as a dive melee Strategist, and I really like the idea of making him a melee main healer.
Basically, I want him to be strongest when he’s actually diving with his team. He has a weaker ranged option for when he can’t reach someone, but his main healing would come from the Hopesword and i’d like to add his BAMFS (his little clones/creatures) .
These numbers are obviously just rough ideas so it wouldn’t be like a balanced concept.
Weapon Stances
He would have two stances: Hopesword and Three Swords.
His Left Click and Right Click change depending on the stance, while the rest of his abilities stay the same.
For the weapon swap animation , I’d have his little BAMFs (his small creatures) quickly appear around him. They take the weapon he’s currently holding and give him the other one, then disappear. The whole thing would be really quick.
Passive — Double Jump
Pretty much what you’d expect. Nightcrawler can double jump, with the second jump allowing him to change direction.
Hopesword — Left Click
His main healing attack.
50 HP per hit
0.5 attacks/sec
\~4m range
It can’t damage enemies.
When he heals an ally, nearby allies also get 30 HP healing, with around a 3m splash radius.
He also gets 15% of the healing he provides as self-healing.
And if he’s holding the Hopesword and stays out of combat for 3 seconds, he starts regenerating 30 HP/sec.
Hopesword — Right Click: Purification
I don’t think the cleanse should have a normal cooldown.
Instead, he has a Purification meter that charges whenever he heals an ally.
Both the Hopesword and ranged BAMF healing contribute to it, but his self-healing doesn’t.
Once it’s full, he can use Right Click to cleanse an ally. Using it empties the meter and he has to build it again.
So the better you’re healing, the more often you’re able to cleanse.
Three Swords — Left Click
When he switches to his three physical swords, his Left Click becomes his melee attack.
35 damage
0.5 attacks/sec
\~4m range
Two swords are in his hands and the third is controlled by his tail.
Three Swords — Right Click: Tail Sweep
He uses the sword held by his tail to make a wide sweep around himself.
45 damage
\~4.5m radius
Small knockback
6s cooldown
It’s an extra attack with some AoE that can give him a little space when enemies get close.
F — Ranged: BAMF Healing/Damage
Nightcrawler sends one of his little BAMFs toward a target.
Enemy: 20 damage
Ally: 25 HP healing
\~25m range
8s cooldown
2 charges
Healing with it also charges his Purification meter.
I want this to be pretty weak compared to the Hopesword. It’s basically there for when he can’t get into melee range, not something he should be using as his main healing method.
E — Ally Teleport
Teleport directly to a targeted ally within 30m.
6s cooldown
Completing the teleport heals Nightcrawler for 40 HP.
Pretty straightforward. It’s mainly for quickly joining an ally or repositioning.
Shift — Directional Self-Teleport
He teleports in whatever direction he’s currently moving.
Forward = forward, left = left, diagonal = diagonal, etc.
It also works in the air.
8m teleport distance
6s cooldown
30 HP self-healing
Together with the double jump, this would give him a lot of mobility.
Q — Hopesword Sanctuary
For his ult, Nightcrawler uses the power of the Hopesword to create a big bubble-like Sanctuary at a location he chooses and its providing healing and cleansing .
It’s stationary and doesn’t move with him.
\~10m radius
\~10m height
150 HP/sec healing
The bubble also sends out a Purification Wave every second, cleansing applicable negative effects from allies inside.
So instead of giving permanent cleanse immunity, the cleanse happens in pulses, so you could still get hit by a negative effect between waves, but the next wave would cleanse it.
Also when the ult starts, his little BAMFs attach themselves to his allies. Each ally gets a one-time teleport back to the Sanctuary.
The important part is that the ally chooses whether to use it. They’re never forced to teleport, so ally A could dive really deep away from his ult, get low, and decide to teleport back to the Sanctuary. Meanwhile ally B could decide not to use his and keep diving.
Once the BAMF is used, or the ult ends, it disappears.
In conclusion
I mainly want him to feel like a support who actually dives with his team.
His Hopesword is where most of his healing comes from, his three swords are the way to deal decent damage, the BAMF attack gives him something to do at range without turning him into a ranged support, and his teleports let him constantly move between allies, finally he ult gives the team a stationary of healing and cleansing place to regroup around, while the BAMFs give everyone an optional way back to it.
