Got flown to NYC for a job interview. This is the coolest experience of my life.

I 24F applied to a job on a whim a couple months ago. Barely qualified. Now I’m sitting in a hotel eating pizza in NYC while watching the devil wears prada. Fully paid for.

Also went through a shitty personal thing two months ago that killed my self worth. But baby I’m coming BACK! I’m so proud of myself for doing this and getting here, and I’m learning to be comfortable realizing that I do deserve this. I deserve to be happy and have good things happen.

Anyways, wish me luck tomorrow girly pops, we can do hard things!

Edit: this post has been up for less than 30 minutes and you all are making me cry. happy cry!!!!! thank you all a million times. <3

Love shack by the B52s sounds like John sung it

I heard the similarity in the radio and started dying laughing. "Juke box MONAY!" especially sounds like him.

Thick black smoke as seen by North End waterfront. Hoping everyone is safe and it's not a bad situation.

Is it strange to have friends that you don't have the contact info or phone number of?

can someone be considered your friend if you don't have their phone number? I went to a party last night and caught up with someone that I'm connected with on FB. But I asked if he texts and asked for a number. He said that he doesn't text and gets swamped in too many messages so we left it at that. He does content over social media so it is understandable if he is tired of too many contacts.

Red (2010)

Retiree Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is living a quiet and solitary life in the suburbs but continues to find himself bored with the mundane day to day of his life, his only excitement coming from flirting over the phone with Sarah (Mary Louise Parker), the call center employee who handles Frank’s Social Security account. When a wetwork team attacks his home, Frank, a retired CIA operative, realizes Sarah will be targeted as well and kidnaps her to protect her. Together, they learn that Frank being targeted is part of a cover-up and recruit Frank’s old friends for help: Joe (Morgan Freeman), another former agent and Frank’s mentor; Victoria (Helen Mirren), a former MI6 assassin; and Marvin (John Malkovich), a former CIA agent and whacked out conspiracy theorist. With help from Russian agent Ivan (Brian Cox), they learn that the cover-up is being orchestrated by wealthy arms dealer Alexander Dunning (Richard Dreyfuss) to prevent a secret connected to the sitting Vice President (Julian McMahon) from getting out and Frank’s team must beat the odds, including CIA operative William Cooper (Karl Urban), to stay alive.

I first watched this movie back in 2012 for one reason: the legendary Bruce Willis. But the entire cast in this movie is so much fun, particularly John Malkovich’s Marvin. It’s that dying breed of action movies that doesn’t try to be deep or angst or anything other than fun. It’s loosely based on a comic book from DC’s Vertigo imprint but it was, interestingly, not produced or distributed by Warner Bros. They didn’t want the movie. However, Warren Ellis, comic book legend and author of the book this film is based on, gave the film his stamp of approval, despite the vast differences between his work and the film’s script. Good use of music in the film and I loved the scene transitions using postcards to keep us up to date with where the action was taking place. Not the best action movie I’ve ever seen but a fun popcorn flick, regardless.

Finally watched Offspring

I know I am so late to the party and this sub is not active but here are my thoughts. I am in the US and just discovered this show on Hulu. I really knew nothing about it but it looked entertaining so I gave it a shot. I ended up binging it. The first episode was a bit slow and I thought about giving up but I stuck it out and I am glad.

I loved Chris and Nina, though they both had a tendency to stop at weird spots when speaking which, of course, led to so many misunderstandings that were frustrating. I was bummed they didn't get one night together before he left.

Patrick - I hated him at first when he was there for his sister's delivery. I know that was the intention. Obviously, he grew on me and then I really liked him, though he certainly had his flaws. The sexual chemistry was high between Patrick and Nina but realistically, there would have been lots of challenges for them as a couple given their differences - Nina wants to talk everything out and Patrick wants to withdraw.

One of my favorite episodes is when Patrick lets Nina sleep and everyone from her family shows up and he handles them all. The best was Jimmy. Patrick doesn't say a word and Jimmy basically talks himself to a solution and thinks Patrick solved it.

I had no idea he was going to die so that threw me for a loop. I bawled so much. It is totally understandable that he became perfect in Nina's mind, given that he died so young and unexpectedly. Leo really nailed it when he said that she's having a fantasy relationship with Patrick, and he's perfect because she controls the fantasy. No one in the real world could ever compete with that because in the real world people are flawed.

I suppose I understand why they did it as it was a TV show, but I think Nina started dating too soon after Patrick's death. If he was the great love of her life, I can't see her thinking about dating less than a year after he passed. From people I know who lost partners young and unexpectedly, it was more than 1 year after before they were ready to even consider dating.

I never liked Thomas. Something was always off about him to me. That he was cheating on his pregnant wife was bad enough but to take advantage of Nina who was so vulnerable after Patrick's death was just beyond. I know it was not her fault, but I would have liked to see the wife learn about the husband's cheating. And I also wish we saw his reaction to his truck covered in refried beans.

I was bummed that we never saw Nina and Leo in a relationship. I feel like they could have been good. When season 5 ended it seemed so promising but then when season 6 started it was over and he moved on to someone else. Maybe that actor couldn't or didn't want to stay on.

I liked Harry but I thought that their relationship was rushed due to Nina's pregnancy, likely because they only had seasons 6 and 7. For an obstetrician, Nina is awful with safe sex. Both her pregnancies were unintentional because of a lack of contraception.

I hated Harry's family, except Russell. He was great. The way they treated Nina and went on and on about Georgie. The mother said Georgie has her head on straight or something. I'm sorry but someone who just randomly travels about on a whim for 10 years is not a stable person. I get that she was a big part of his family's life but at least have the courtesy to not speak about the ex while meeting the new partner. When Nina met Kirsty for a drink that was awful of Kirsty to spring Georgie on her. Again, Kirsty can be friends with Georgie but that was unfair for her to ambush Nina. Then harping on her 10 years etc., no wonder poor Nina blurted out that she was pregnant.

The parents were also horrible to her about the pregnancy news. I wish we had seen Nina tell Harry all the things they said when he wasn't there. I mean the mother's first concern was how the ex would take this news!!

And then, like whiplash, his parents were all lovey-dovey about the pregnancy and Zoe asking Harry to be her dad. Again, it was probably a rush because they had a limited amount of episodes.

For the other characters, Billie was hit or miss for me. Sometimes she was great and other times super annoying. I did like Mick and somehow Billie and Mick worked. It's too bad that they broke up in the end. I understand that the actor wanted to leave but I wish they had let the long-distance thing work.

I loved Jimmy and was surprised he ended up Mr Family Man. He and Zara lasting for the long haul was a surprise to me. When Zara was in crisis, it was so clear to me that she needed to be screened for depression. I get that she could not see it in herself, but her sister-in-law is a doctor, she's friends with other nurses and no one suggested it?!?!?!

The Cherie and Darcy thing was odd at first but somehow it worked for them. Kim was funny but occasionally annoyed me. Elvis was weird but good comic relief I guess. I didn't like Clegg at first but he grew on me after Patrick died and he was more involved with Cherie.

I have nothing against people using friends/acquaintances as sperm donors, but why do they ask them in such a public setting? That was weird to me. It's a big decision and to put someone on the spot like that?! Very odd.

Also, I've never been to Australia, but do they really sell houses that way? I mean, they have an open house to look at the place and then everyone goes outside in the yard or street and starts yelling numbers like a cattle auction? So weird!!
