Should you own fractional gold for liquidity?

Hi.

I have a stack of 1 oz AGE’s. I have bought some ASE’s as a way to use precious metals for exchange rather than a 1 oz gold coin. I mean, who can make change for that at $4100 for an ounce.

I was considering adding to my sliver and thought, 1/4 oz gold coin is about the same as 20 1/4 gold coins. So why not just own 5 of those for the same purpose?

Thoughts?

Do you bother to save money in retirement?

I’m still working, but at a relaxed level. Common budgeting guidelines suggest 65% Needs, 25% Wants and 10% Savings/Investment.

I have an IRA and drawing two pensions and about to qualify for a third. My pensions and SS will cover all my expenses.

Should I even bother saving money? I mean, why put away money for say, vacation if I can draw that from my IRA?

Thoughts?

When to start IRA withdrawals … what age?

I’m 66. I have 2 pensions and in two years, will have a third. Those plus SSA, will exceed my income requirements. I also have $1.5M in an iRA.

My FA wants me to wait til 70 to start wd’s. I’m not so sure. If my nut is covered, why can’t I start wd’s at 67? It seems to me that once I hit FRA, I should start withdrawing. Thoughts?

How do you feel about dating a woman with a past?

Hi.

I recently met an attractive woman and we’re meeting for drinks.

She works with family members. Several have called about her and suggested I be careful. Why? Not sure. They have a narrative that she’s easy, possibly untrustworthy, and husband shopping.

She? Disclosed her past, converted, has been very complimentary about these same family members. The narratives just don’t match.

She’s already arranged for golf at her club and dinner with friends at a nice restaurant. She’s smart, well educated and personable. I personally like her.

Thoughts? Everyone seems to dance around their objections and short on specifics. Trying to navigate the politics.

Should I fire my advisor?

Ok. I have had the same advisory firm for about 20 years. It was generally “ok”, not great. Returns about the market average … less if you add in their fee.

A year ago, they did a retirement analysis and told me to save “more”. I already have $1.5M+, multiple pensions and Social Security. Save more? I assumed it was a form letter. It read like one.

My estate attorney had to interact with them and suggested I fire them. She deals with family offices and described their method of operation as “questionable”. She said they do things that just aren’t done, legally speaking.

Last year, I began asking why they had me in certain high risk investments. No answer. Well, they did answer … “We’re professionals. You have to trust us.”

They have never disclosed why they put me into certain investments and when I raise the issue, they speak gibberish. (Btw, I’m experienced with corporate finance and called bs on their explanations.). Recently, I asked if they received trailer fees (commissions) on high load funds they placed me into. They won’t answer.

Finally, the managing partner told me, “Look. We invest money one way. If you don’t like it, leave.”

Everything screams run. It’s my money. Why don’t I get a vote in how it’s managed?

My GF thinks I want to hit her

Here’s a question.

I had a wonderful weekend recently with my gf. On the last day, before I went back to work offshore, she was a little tentative and I asked why? She said she thought I was trying to hurt her physically. I asked her again and she said, “I think you want to hit me.”

I have never even raised my voice. In three years.

My neighbor is a lawyer and asked him. His response, “If she falls in the bathtub and injures herself, she can say during the interview that she was concerned about abuse from you. Congrats. You are now a suspect even if you did no such thing.”

Note: Her family has a history of mental health issues. Her own therapist says she struggles accurately recalling events.

My neighbor says to dump her. The legal risks are too high. Thoughts?
