Declaring Disability to my manager

Hi all, going through a little bit of a dilemma and I could do with an outside opinion on this. I was recently diagnosed with Autism, but I'm unsure as to whether to diagnose this to my manager or not. I am only at this job fora fixed term contract of a year due to covering a member of staff on maternity leave.

This job has tended to suit me a little better than my previous job e.g more routine (there's some unpredictability but the predictability keeps me grounded); able to take my lunch in a quiet room. I tend to have some earplugs on me, which I tend to use when the noise gets a bit of a struggle to handle.

I'm just not sure if it would be better to say I found out about this, this is what I'll use sometimes but I'm currently getting support through my GP.

How would be the correct way to approach it? Or should I just stay quiet?

Looking to apply for NHS jobs

Hi all, I'm looking at applying to jobs in the NHS in the labs. I am interested in joining the histology department, however I dont have any biomedical licence and im worried that will affect me when applying.

I have up to a year experience in histology and a bioveterinary science degree. Is this a case of just email the recruitment person and see what they say?

Accessories needed for building the PC

Hi all, I've finally bought all my parts and am ready to start building. However, are there any accessories you'd reccomend to prevent certain components from being damaged during the installation

Planning on building on a table with a esd mat and or a wrist strap. Is there anything else other than a screwdriver with several different heads?

Was put on gardening leave, is this normal?

Hi all, posting here as I would like some advice, this happened a while ago but am curious to get others opinions on it. I handed in my notice, and was working through my notice period when I was put on gardening leave two days before I was due to leave.

I had been called out in the woek group chat, because I missed a few things in the lab as I was working late. All I did was leave some labels next to the PC and had a little bit of virkon left on one piece of equipment. I was then kicked out of the work group chat. I then proceeded to argue with my manager, who threatened to block me on WhatsApp. I responded with what would you do if I was ill and he then put me on garden leave.

Is this normal in any situation? I will be honest and say my MH wasn't great at this moment in time, but I'm just curious what others think.

Is post graduate Vet Med worth it?

Hi all, I graduated in 2022 with a BSc in Bioveterinary Science. However, I've been recently thinking about doing a vet med degree in the UK and have been eyeing up the accelerated programs, rather than the standard five year ones.

I have BBB at A level, which I resat to get those grades and a 2:1 in my degree. So far I have been working in labs related to parasitology and I have recently started a job in a pathology lab (which I am really enjoying).

Would it be worth continuing as a tech in these lab environments, or going to pursue a veterinary degree?

Help with my airflow setup

Hi all, im stuck between 2 airflow setups. Both use the fractal meshify 3 case.

Airflow 1:

3 140mm intake fans

2 140mm top exhaust fans (with aio cooler)

1 rear 120mm fan exhaust

Airflow 2:

3 140mm intake fans

Air cooler for CPU

2 140mm exhaust top

1 120mm exhaust rear

Would both fan setups give positive air pressure? An probably overthinking this, but are both options fine?

Final build and some building questions

Hi all, I think after a few months I've finally settled on a build, but would like some final bits of advice before cementing it and I've been working on it for quite some time.

My primary use will be gaming and streaming and im aiming to play newer titles. I currently have a 1660 super so this is a massive upgrade for me. Below is my part picker list and some questions before I finally commit.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/scwfPf

Questions:

Motherboard - I've been flicking between a few and finally settled on this based on price. I need at least 1 rear usb c and around 8 usb a ports on the rear io, to hook up my current peripherals. Im also not sure whether the msi mag tomahawk max wifi b850 would be better so im a little torn.

EDIT: Just realised im missing the GPU, its the 5070 ti gigabyte gaming oc.

Cooler - having a top mounted cooler with the case that needs to be 240mm or 280mm. However, i really like the screen option and was wondering if theres anything similar thsts cheaper. Also looking at the arctic freezer pro iii 280mm as an alternative, as its cheaper but has no screen.

PSU - Finally with my PSU, I've gone with A- one thats one of the cheaper ones (price wise). Would this be ok with the build?

And on build questions, as I'll be using my current 1tb ssd as a boot drive. It currently is on windows 10, but will it automatically update to windows 11 with new GPU? I'm also planning on setting up a new 32gb USB with drivers for this? How would the best way be to go about this?

Hi all, currently going through the diagnosis phase through right to choose and ive finally got an appointment for my autism diagnosis. Just waiting on the ADHD one now.

I started a new job in Jan, and im pretty much working side by side with the lab manager to process samples. Its a vet histo/Pathology lab. I havent mentioned anything to anyone about being autistic/adhd but I dont know whether its worth saying something now or waiting till the diagnosis is confirmed.

I had a really rough time with my manager regarding this, I was pretty much in burnout when he PIPed me and it really did a lot of damage and im still trying to build myself up from that.

Should I speak up or stay quiet?
