Important Reminder: AI Content and User Responsibility

AI-generated content is permitted on r/ChristianVocaloid under our rules, but permission to post AI content does not mean that the person posting it is exempt from responsibility for that content.

If you use an AI tool to create an image, song, video, story, or other creative work, you are still responsible for what you choose to generate and submit. Entering a prompt and allowing an AI system to do the work does not transfer responsibility to the AI, its developer, or anyone else. If the resulting content violates our rules, copyright, licensing terms, or other applicable rights, it will be treated just like any other infringing content.

This is especially important for AI-generated music and voices. For example, an AI-generated song that imitates or uses a Vocaloid character's voice may involve unauthorized use of a voicebank, copyrighted material, or other restricted content. Simply using AI to produce something does not make otherwise unauthorized material permissible. Official VOCALOID products can also have specific licensing and usage terms, so users should make sure they have the necessary rights and permissions before posting.

Our AI Content flair exists to provide transparency, not to endorse AI-generated creative work. We recognize that much of the Vocaloid community has strong concerns about generative AI and its impact on artists, musicians, producers, and other creators. Those concerns are important to us.

r/ChristianVocaloid allows AI-generated content under limited conditions because we want this community to remain open to discussion and participation while maintaining clear standards for responsible content. However, we do not encourage the replacement of human creativity with generative AI. This community exists to appreciate the creativity, effort, skill, and personal expression of human creators.

In short:

  • AI-generated content must follow the AI Content flair requirement.
  • AI-generated content must follow all other subreddit rules.
  • You are responsible for the content you post, even when an AI generated it.
  • A prompt does not give you ownership or permission to use material that you otherwise do not have the right to use.
  • AI-generated content will not receive special treatment when it infringes copyright, violates licensing terms, or otherwise breaks our rules.
  • When in doubt, do not post content unless you can reasonably establish that you have the necessary rights or permission.

Please continue to respect the human creators whose work makes the Vocaloid community possible.

🎂 Ideas Wanted: Hatsune Miku 19th Anniversary Event

Hatsune Miku’s 19th anniversary/birthday is coming up on August 31! 🎉

We are considering holding an online community event to celebrate, and ideas are welcome! Since there is less than two weeks to plan, an in-person gathering would be impractical. An online event would also allow members from around the world to participate.

What kind of activities would make this a fun and meaningful celebration? 🎶💙

Ideas could include:

  • 🎨 Fan art or creative challenges
  • 🎵 Hatsune Miku song recommendations or playlists
  • ✝️ Christian-themed activities connected to Miku/Vocaloid
  • 📸 A virtual community showcase
  • 🎤 Online karaoke or singing
  • 💬 Discussion or trivia
  • 🎂 A virtual birthday celebration
  • 💡 Anything else the community might enjoy!

Please share any ideas, big or small, in the comments. The goal is to create something the community can enjoy together!

Azuki Masaoka and Matcha Kobayashi deserve to be remembered

Azuki Masaoka and Matcha Kobayashi have a unique place in SEGA history. Originally created for Project 575, the pair eventually received official VOCALOID4 voicebanks. As far as SEGA's Vocaloid lineup goes, Azuki and Matcha are currently the company's only Vocaloids, giving them an especially distinctive place within SEGA's history.

The two images show exactly who this post is talking about.

The goal shouldn't be to turn Azuki and Matcha into the next Sonic the Hedgehog. They don't need to become massive mainstream icons or compete with the popularity of characters like Hatsune Miku.

The more realistic goal is simply recognition.

Azuki and Matcha should be recognizable enough that SEGA fans and Vocaloid fans know who they are and understand their connection to SEGA. Right now, their history and existence can be surprisingly easy to overlook, especially compared with SEGA's much more prominent characters and franchises.

That's what makes their situation unfortunate. They already have something that makes them stand out: they're SEGA's own Vocaloids. That alone gives them a distinctive identity within both SEGA's character lineup and the wider Vocaloid scene.

A revitalization wouldn't have to make them hugely famous. It would simply need to prevent them from fading further into obscurity and establish them as characters that SEGA still acknowledges.

There is plenty of room for Azuki and Matcha to have a modest but recognizable place in SEGA's identity.

They don't need Sonic's level of fame.

They just need to be remembered.

When someone asks, "Does SEGA have any Vocaloids?", the ideal response shouldn't be confusion or silence.

It should be:

"Yes. Azuki Masaoka and Matcha Kobayashi."

What ideas could help make Azuki and Matcha more recognizable as SEGA's Vocaloids without trying to turn them into the next Sonic the Hedgehog?

Who is Sonic's SEGA sibling?

Sonic has plenty of characters from other SEGA series who could really pass as a sibling. But which one fits the role best? There are two rules:

1. The "sibling" cannot come from the same series as Sonic.
No Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, etc.

2. The character must be owned by SEGA or a SEGA subsidiary.
No characters owned by outside companies, including crossover guests such as Godzilla, Batman, Mega Man, and especially Hatsune Miku.

With those rules in place, who deserves the title of Sonic's SEGA sibling?

Drop the best answer—or the funniest one.

Which Capcom characters would you like to see in SEGA vs. Capcom: The Next Level?

Now that SEGA vs. Capcom: The Next Level has been released, which other Capcom characters would be interesting to see represented in the game?

For reference, these characters are already playable (shown in the background) so please exclude these characters from the discussion:

If Capcom created a Vocaloid based on an existing character, who would be the best choice?

Capcom entering the Vocaloid scene could be a pretty interesting idea. VOCALOID has grown far beyond being just a Yamaha technology, with voicebanks and virtual singers associated with a variety of companies and creators. Hatsune Miku is probably the most famous example, while companies such as SEGA and Bandai Namco have also had their own Vocaloid-related characters and projects. Bandai Namco, for example, has Mirai Komachi as a VOCALOID voicebank.

So, if Capcom decided to create its own Vocaloid using an existing Capcom character, which character would be the best fit?

Some possibilities:

  • Roll (Mega Man) — Probably one of the most natural choices. She already has a cute, colorful design and could easily be reimagined as a virtual idol.
  • Morrigan Aensland (Darkstalkers) — A more mature and distinctive Vocaloid could make for an interesting contrast to characters such as Hatsune Miku.
  • Tron Bonne (Mega Man Legends) — Her eccentric personality and recognizable design could work surprisingly well for a virtual singer.
  • Chun-Li (Street Fighter) — A globally recognizable Capcom character who could give the concept a very different identity.
  • Amaterasu (Ōkami) — A non-human Vocaloid would be unusual, but the visual possibilities could be incredible.
  • Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney) — Perhaps the funniest option. A Phoenix Wright Vocaloid could lead to some very bizarre songs.
  • Mega Man — A robot becoming a Vocaloid would be thematically appropriate, especially considering the connection between synthesized voices and technology.

A Capcom Vocaloid could also make multi-company crossovers much more interesting.

For example, there is a fan game called SEGA vs. Capcom: The Next Level. If Masaoka Azuki and/or Kobayashi Matcha were ever added to the game, a Capcom Vocaloid could potentially serve as a rival to them.

A hypothetical Project X Zone 3 could also have a fun Vocaloid lineup if the crossover remained focused on Capcom, SEGA, and Bandai Namco. SEGA has two Vocaloid characters, Bandai Namco has Mirai Komachi, and Capcom could potentially bring a third company's Vocaloid into the mix.

So, which existing Capcom character would make the best Vocaloid?

And would the better choice be an obvious candidate like Roll, or would a completely unexpected character such as Phoenix Wright make the concept more interesting?

Which SEGA characters would you want to see in Project X Zone 3?

We're curious to see what everyone thinks!

If a hypothetical Project X Zone 3 ever happened, which SEGA characters would you most want to see join the roster?

The image features:

  • The original Project X Zone logo with a 3 beside it.
  • The SEGA logo separated by a white ×.
  • In the background (left to right): Joker, Ichiban Kasuga, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ulala, and Azuki Masaoka.

These characters are just examples to spark discussion—they're not meant as a prediction or leak.

Who would you pick? Returning characters, newcomers, or even characters from lesser-known SEGA series are all welcome. We'd love to hear your roster ideas!

How should Tanjiro Kamado be added to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ Year 2 content?

With Year 2 expanding the game’s crossover potential through major collaborations like Godzilla and Evangelion, more third-party franchises could be possible candidates for future DLC. One potential addition could be Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer.

Since SEGA publishes the Demon Slayer games outside Japan, Tanjiro could be a fitting crossover choice.

There are two possible ways SEGA could approach it:

Free Update

  • Tanjiro would become the second non-SEGA character added through a free update after Hatsune Miku.
  • It would be an interesting way to connect SEGA’s publishing relationship with the Demon Slayer games.
  • The downside is that Demon Slayer may feel underrepresented if Tanjiro is the only character from the franchise and the only one with a dedicated vehicle.

Demon Slayer Season Pass Pack

  • Tanjiro could come alongside another character, likely Nezuko.
  • The pack could include a Demon Slayer-themed track, vehicle(s), and cosmetics.
  • This would likely make the crossover feel more complete and better represent the franchise.

With Year 2 already opening the door for bigger crossover packs, which approach would work better for Tanjiro: a standalone free update or a full Demon Slayer DLC pack?

If Fighters Megamix 2 happened, what kind of fighting game should it be and who should be on the roster?

The original Fighters Megamix was a unique SEGA crossover that combined characters from games like Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, and other SEGA properties, mixing serious fighters with unexpected characters and surprises. A sequel could be an opportunity to celebrate SEGA's entire history, including characters from SEGA-owned studios and subsidiaries such as Atlus and Rovio.

The question is: what direction should Fighters Megamix 2 take?

Should it be:

  • A traditional 3D fighter inspired by Virtua Fighter?
  • A faster arena-style fighter?
  • A platform fighter similar to Super Smash Bros.?
  • A completely new style that combines elements from different genres?

What gameplay mechanics would make it stand out? Should it focus on competitive depth, chaotic crossover fun, or a balance of both?

Also, what would the roster look like?

The roster should consist only of SEGA-owned characters, including characters from:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Virtua Fighter
  • Like a Dragon / Yakuza
  • Persona and other Atlus franchises
  • Streets of Rage
  • Phantasy Star (including Phantasy Star Online)
  • Jet Set Radio
  • Golden Axe
  • Shinobi
  • Crazy Taxi
  • NiGHTS
  • Super Monkey Ball
  • Space Channel 5
  • Puyo Puyo
  • Samba de Amigo
  • Alex Kidd
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • Panzer Dragoon
  • Shenmue
  • Valkyria Chronicles
  • Sakura Wars
  • Virtual-On
  • The House of the Dead
  • Comix Zone
  • Ristar
  • Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
  • ChuChu Rocket!
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Space Harrier
  • Project 575
  • Bayonetta
  • Angry Birds

Who would be the must-have fighters? Who would be the hidden/unlockable characters? Would there be any joke characters or unusual picks like the original game's Hornet car?

Bonus appreciation to anyone who includes Azuki Masaoka and Matcha Kobayashi, the only Vocaloid characters owned by SEGA, as part of the roster.

Share ideas for the fighting style, mechanics, stages, and dream roster!

Vocaloid Representation in Super Smash Bros.

Vocaloid representation in Super Smash Bros. comes up fairly often, especially when people mention Hatsune Miku. The biggest obstacle is Smash's long-standing philosophy of featuring fighters that originated in video games, which would rule out most Vocaloids, including Miku, since they debuted as voicebanks or mascot characters rather than game characters.

However, there are two interesting exceptions: Masaoka Azuki and Kobayashi Matcha. Both characters originated as part of SEGA's Project 575, first appearing in the Utayomi 575 mobile game and Utagumi 575 for PS Vita before later receiving official VOCALOID voicebanks. If the "video game origin" guideline is the deciding factor, these two are among the few Vocaloids that can make a strong case for meeting it.

Mirai Komachi is another interesting case. She has appeared in video games after her debut, but available information indicates she was originally created as a Bandai Namco virtual idol and technology showcase rather than debuting in a video game. That would likely place her in the same category as Hatsune Miku, where later game appearances wouldn't change her original debut.

With that in mind, if Smash were ever to have a Vocaloid representative while sticking to its usual philosophy, would Azuki or Matcha make the most sense? Or is there another Vocaloid character that would be a better fit?

Also, are there any official Vocaloids that were missed here that did originate from a video game before becoming Vocaloids? If so, it would be interesting to learn about them.

📢 Clarification: AI Content Policy

We've clarified our AI content rule to better explain when the "AI Content" post flair is required.

The flair is still required for AI-generated content such as images, music, videos, and AI-generated creative writing (e.g., articles, essays, stories, or poems).

However, if AI was only used to help write an ordinary post or comment—such as a question, announcement, discussion, or other non-creative message—you do not need to use the "AI Content" flair. A good comparison is academia: using AI to help draft an email is generally treated differently from using AI to write an essay or other original assignment. Likewise, on this subreddit, AI-assisted everyday communication is treated differently from AI-generated creative works.

Regardless of whether AI was used, all posts and comments must still comply with the subreddit rules. AI assistance does not exempt content from our rules on relevance, civility, copyright, or any other community guidelines.

This clarification is intended to distinguish AI used as a writing assistant from AI used to generate the creative work itself.

What Would SEGA's Equivalent of the Avengers or Justice League Look Like?

If SEGA had its own premier crossover team made up of heroes from across its franchises, who would be on the roster?

You can choose as many or as few characters as you'd like, but try to explain why they were picked. Would the team focus on saving the world, protecting multiple dimensions, or tackling threats unique to the SEGA universe?

A few ideas to consider:

  • Who would be the leader?
  • Who would be the powerhouse?
  • Who would be the strategist?
  • Who would handle stealth or reconnaissance?
  • Which villains would require this team to come together?

To keep things consistent, please only use characters that are owned by SEGA or its subsidiaries (such as Atlus and Rovio). No third-party or licensed characters (for example, Hatsune Miku, Marvel/DC characters, Disney characters, or other guest characters).

Interested to see how different everyone's dream team ends up being!
