Powerspec bios update

Folks,

need your opinion please on bios update. I got g535, MSI mobo, bios is powerspec house version, 1 year old.

all the parts except the case look like market generic, i.e. there no microcenter unique items. is it worth/safe to replace bios with the latest MSI version?

ARCTIC P12 Pro wont go below 750 rpm

MSI motherboard, PWM mode of course, with smart fan on/off, auto detection on/off - no matter what are the settings I've never seen less than 750 RPM; at above 1200 it's getting louder than stock Lian fans I've got.

TKL with simple backlight?

Hi folks,

I just got my desktop after years of exclusive laptop use. And I'd like to get a keyboard that is similar to laptop's experience:

- must be TKL (preferably 80%)

- must have backlight. Simple white is ok, no need of fancy RGBs.

- preferably on a quitter side

- preferably sound control (via dedicated buttons or via F buttons)

- under $60

Indented use: casual gaming, light typing, light coding

Material, wire(less), customization is not important

2014 model - fuel door (manual release) will occasionally get stuck

Hi fellow owners,

I've noticed that on hot days the fuel door on my 2014 Elantra (manual release) will get stuck.

I could open it by pulling a wire via a 'secret door' in the trunk, but wondering if any of you were able to find the root cause of this issue and fix in permanently.

Thanks

The Data Center gold rush - the power angle

The bulk of the US power grid is operated by several deregulated local grid operators known as RTOs. When a developer wants to build a datacenter, it MUST submit a request to an RTO and get in line.

Let's check what's the current peak load in the largest RTOs vs the number of DC capacity requested.

ERCOT (the power grid of Texas): peak load is 85 GW vs 408 GW submitted

PJM (East Coast south of New England but north of Carolinas): 180 vs 337

MISO (states along the Mississippi river): 120 vs ~50

+++
To put things in perspective, the capacity of a BIG nuclear reactor is ~1 GW. Musk's Colossus mega super duper project is a mere 0.5 GW of capacity. The largest freaking US Nuclear power plant's capacity is ... 'just' 4.6 GW.

As the picture demonstrates, the USA has been adding roughly 10 GW/year.

Yet developers submitted over 700GW (!) of the gold rush applications. And I bet that 'analysts' covering Nvidia etc are using 700GW, not 10GW in their 'forward-looking projections'

if mining buttcoins were so profitable

then Mr funding secured would have run his Colossus data center 24/7, exploiting the infinite money glitch. yet we see that none of major corps owning data centers engaged into this ponzi. only questionable companies like Riot and Iren, which by the way are pivoting themselves to become providers of AI data center capacity.

The biggest sucker of battery life in my experience

Guess what - AOD! Once I turned it off, I am able to last for a day with moderate screentime use (and I limit battery charging to 90% to extend its life)
