Azrael kitbash failure

Unfortunately I messed up

I couldn't get the original pose I wanted to work so I tried to pivot, but I had maimed the model too much. Even with replacement pieces and trying to fill gaps the cuts and clips I have made are too noticeable...

The cape and the rock worked well, if I didn't try to force the double handed sword pose it would be fine. I'll probably pick up another Azrael and Armageddon Captain and try again at some point. Just give him the cape and rock, but keep his default pose.

Really showing they didn't need to do primaris with this one

Literally just upscaled first borns with flame

To be clear I'm not a primaris hater. I like certain design ques that feel like it was trying to improve the armors protection like the bevors to protect the neck. I think it makes sense they'd release a new armor mark to go alongside the upscale range roll out. But from a painting stand point I find some of the shapes on primaris armor to be annoying.

Flat out just don't like impulsors and repulsors. Gravis and phobos are really cool, but suppressors and inceptors never looked right to me.

The first born vs primaris also feels like a waste of time at this point since it's not even really anything anymore. In lore and tabletop. It just shouldn't have been a thing, space marines just should be space marines.

Army test model

Just been practicing since I got into the hobby, think I'm happy enough with where I'm at to start painting combat squads. Just in time for the new codex. Think I might change the base colors though.

The nails bit me

I had a random urge for blood, so I painted my first berserker with some paints that have been sitting on my desk. It was fun.

This still annoys me

It's really strange a veteran sergeant can have his pick of pistols while a captain and lieutenant are locked to a specific pistol if they take a storm shield.

Took me this long to paint my favorite color

Despite red being my favorite color I had never painted a red marine. So here's my first try at a blood angel.

Bolt rifles with stocks fixes my design issue with them

I always thought bolt rifles looked lopsided and front heavy, like any time a marine was shown one handing one it's gonna fall over. Versus the classic bolter which because it wasn't as long looks like it was designed to be one or two handed. The stock really evens out the rifles design and I think makes it look so much better.

As a side note, man I am loving how this new line of marine sculpts look. All the small little differences on each armor really do a lot to add personality. All the poses have been great too, especially love this guy pulling a magazine from a pouch.

Time to sneak this guy onto my bosses desk

Leaving my job at the end of this month, so just giving my boss a little gift on the way out. He's a nice guy and we talk about things like Warhammer and trench crusade when it's slow. Salamanders are his favorite, but he doesn't have time to paint.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me with the coverage issue, y'all are great.

Did anyone make anything for Father's Day?

My dad's favorite color is green so I'm giving him a greenwing lieutenant

My favorite feature of GW pots is getting these little snacks mid painting session 😋

It's a little bit of a hassle but kinda satisfying getting these out of the ring

Is this good coverage?

Attempting my first salamander and getting a good base coat with warpstone glow is tougher than I thought. I completely messed up the first time, so this is my second time trying and I used a caliban green trick I saw online. I sprayed chaos black primer, one layer of claiban, then three layers of warpstone glow over that. I'm afraid if I go for a fourth layer it'll look chunky.

Gift for a friend

Leaving to join the military later this year, so I decided to paint a model for each of my friends as a parting gift. This is the first of the batch.

I was planning on Titus leading my bladeguard, but I gotta use this guy now. Would he look out of place in the lieutenant role? Probably change his helmet and put the stripes on.

Thanks to everyone for the pose again.

Thought I could finish this guy in a couple days, ended up taking a couple weeks due to life 😅

I went for a scheme inspired by the Lion. His almost black dark green was so interesting to me I wanted to try to paint it. I'd definitely have to refine the recipe if I was to paint more dark angels. And finishing this guy really makes me want to do Azrael and a guard of inner circle companions.
