[Identify] Estate Sale, Women's Watchface,

TLDR up here for your convenienve since I waxed poetic pretty hard. This is the gist of my post.

  1. I purchased this watch at an estate sale today, I know jack all.

  2. It has gold coloured numerals that look to be placed onto the face of the dial. It still runs (it was running when I picked it up, the estate sale managers must have wound it, don't @ me). It was sold as "gold plated", I am inclined to agree (maybe gold filled).

  3. There are no exterior hallmarks to speak of, but the chain/wrist attachment is clearly missing. The decorative edges may be art deco, hut they look a little more flowy than geometric. I'd hesitate to suggest Art Noveau, but a girl can dream.

  4. If anyone has any knowledge about mechanical watches of this type, I would be very enthusiastic to already your thoughts on potential era and make.

  5. in that vein, if anyone could recommend a type of chain/wrist band that would be era appropriate to your view, I would also like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

------

Hi all! Today I fell in love at an estate sale with this beauty. I would have hardly considered myself a watch person before now, as i scarcely even wear jewelry, but when she caught my eye on the jewelry table and I got a closer look, I just HAD to have it. The numbers, the lil Swiss second dial, the shape, the details around the edges

The watch being $16 dollars certainly helped persuade me.

I have done much research in the past couple of hours and learned a couple of important things, like the fact that I will NOT be the one to open the watch up to see if there is makers information on the interior. I called around to find a watchmaker who would take that up, but i won't be doing so for a few days and I REALLY want to know ehatnit *could* be. Google lens gives me "rolex", but google lens is a fool.

I would love input. A best guess shot in the dark or a detailed reasoning why you think it is such-and-such era or this-or-that crafter. I would also love advice on what sort of band or chain would be most era appropriate for this timepiece.

Thank you in advance!

Found Last Week!! BOND BOYD signed Sterlign silver brooch and earrings

Theyre just gorgeous. Complete works of art, and the screw-back studs show the vintage. $7 at the thrift store. They missed the sterling stamp

Vintage Signed FN Hand Painted Gold Plated 80's Egyptian Revival Brooch+Earrings

These were such a find at the thrift store. I tried to research the maker's signature, but was unable to find anything definitive. That said, it's a one of a kind set, regardless.

Costume Jewelry, Unmarked: Identical listings say Sterling Silver Lang, but I doubt it?

Hi all! I have a curiosity on my hands.

This is an unmarked brooch I picked up from the thrift store. It's lovely, made of metal, and looks like it was perhaps painted with blue enamel at one point. It also looks like it is silver plated, perhaps made with Brass. The middle is a little more pink than it should be.

My issue is that any research I undertake for tjis piece reveals that this is a Lang and is supposed to be Sterling silver. The listings ARE virtually identical, and there are other listings that don't have the bow that are also marked "Sterling". The pattern is the same, front and back. None of the listings appear to be made with enamel either, nor painted with anything else.

Does anyone have an opinion? Is this a reproduction or are all the other listings exaggerating the metal purity? Thanks in advance!

Brooch Identification? Please help!

Hi all! Deleted my last post because i added images but posted it with text only. Take two!

I have an unmarked brooch I am trying to identify. This was a Salvage Center (read: last chance before landfill) find. Appears to be rhodium plated, feather-y brushed silver design, and filled with these pretty blue crystals (calling them crystals because they have a little more fire than rhinestones).

No makers mark to speak of (pictured). Some results give me Lisner, but I have seen similar designs from other makers from the same era of rhodium plating that could also fit the bill. I would welcome your help! Thank you!!

Is this what books are like these days? (The Bone Door, Frances White)

Tagging for potential spoilers and the inherent nature of the book itself, as it explores themes of trauma through the lens of children that are very explicit.

I am trying to get back into reading and I swear I am losing my mind.

This book jumped out at me from the shelves with its startling blue cover and sprayed edges. The synopsis gave me a run down, trauma as explored by children as they encounter a world where they have to regain their memories.

Metaphors of Inner Children, out of context Little/daddy mentions, CSA, graphic depictions of abuse, highlighting different means of processing trauma and the cost of enduring it aside, I need to know if anyone else has read this book so I can ask...how did you get through it?

I don't mean that the content is difficult. It is, of course, very heavy. What I mean, in the most respectful way possible, is that this book reads as though it was written like someone was summarizing a larger, more detailed book. It reads at a 3rd grade level, but somehow simultaneously missing the cohesion of YA books.

In my opinion, the writing style feels shallow, with little to no depth or structure, depicting horrifying trauma on a very surface level. There is very little nuance exercised. Instead of a picture being painted, I feel like I am being shown a B movie that's been edited down to 10 minutes at 1.5x speed. Like, within 10 pages the (child!) characters are teasing one another for caring about eachother??? After they just met less than 5 minutes prior? They accelerate the familiarity of characters so quickly I swear I got whiplash.

I am not saying the book is *bad*, because the idea behind it is actually pretty interesting... the execution is where I find it's lacking. The writing style speeds through the setting with an exposution that is VERY "tell", instead of "show". It's like the author was impatient to get to the meat of the thing, but is throwing you pieces of jerky. It's. Clunky.

And yet! Most of the reviews I find online are glowing! I am so deeply bewildered. Any thoughts to this? Please let me know what you think if you've read it or if you have insights into rrecent review culture.

Edit: fixed some typos
