Even after death you cannot escape inflation

My dad passed away about 3 years ago and it cost $1,100 to cremate him. My father in law passed yesterday and now it cost $2,500 for that same service. Just to cremate. Burial, casket, ceremony is just too much nowadays(could be anywhere from $30k to $100k) and hard to find plots that are decently priced. Even to keep your damn ashes in a small container for viewing can cost over $17k. Why can't we go in peace without worrying about the cost?

My brakes have been making a high pitch squealing noise, 2009 honda fit

Does anyone know if my brake pads need to be changed? They seem to have a good amount of life. Could it be the rotor? The performance of the brakes seem ok, I am slightly low on brake fluid but have held off on filling up till I know what the noise is. My rotors are worn down, but unsure if that is causing it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

New Medi-cal rules starting 2027

Hi all, looks like for some medi-cal recipients. Starting 1/1/2027, there is a new work/volunteer work requirement.

Here's the overview:

  • Who is affected?
    • Adults ages 19–64 who receive Medi-Cal through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansion.
    • It generally applies to adults without children under age 13.
  • What's required?
    • You must generally complete 80 hours per month of qualifying activities, such as:
      • Paid work
      • Volunteering
      • Job training
      • School or vocational education
    • Some people can also qualify by meeting an income threshold instead of documenting 80 hours.
  • Who is exempt? Common exemptions include:
    • People age 65 or older
    • Pregnant individuals
    • People with disabilities or serious medical conditions
    • Many caregivers
    • Parents of young children
    • Certain recently incarcerated individuals
    • Some other protected groups under the law.

Throwing it out there to make sure you're aware of the changes coming.

Iphone picture and video transfer to Desktop or external hard drive?

Hi all, I have an Iphone pro max 11 and looking to upgrade to iphone 17 soon. I was wondering, has anyone ever transferred 240 gb or so worth in pictures and videos to their desktop or an external hard drive. I do have google photos and have backed up my photos and videos there, but for peace of mind, having another physical location where I've saved old photos and videos would be great!

I've reviewed and tried methods like File explorer and photo app on my PC, which has windows 10 home. Just seems very difficult to get it right!

Has anyone tried this? what have you found to be the best method to transfer photos and videos? I ran into the whole HCEI file incompatibility thing as well.

Physical SIM when in China as a US citizen

Hi all, I've traveled to China often over the years, usually for 3 months each visit. Last couple visits I've tried really hard to find a physical China SIM to use to obtain a China number and use the high speed data from that SIM. But I have not been successful, I cannot find a place around Shenzhen that sells a temporary SIM for maybe 3 months (sometimes they'll do it for 6 months, or they'll take a big deposit and say they'll give it back if you keep it for a shorter time period).

Does anyone know where I can find a good cheap physical SIM in china? Or one that allows you to use in both hong kong and China mainland?

Alternatively, I know some will mention getting an ESIM, but having a chinese number makes longer term stays there much easier.

Any advice or your experience is greatly appreciated!

Anybody know where to get the best front screen replacement for iphone 12 pro?

Hi all, I'm going to dive in and try to fix the front screen of this iphone myself! I've tried this before and destroyed the home button on an old iphone 8. I hope not to do this again by being gentle with taking the front screen off and not ripping the attachments!

Does anyone recommend a place to where I can get a legit OLED soft or OEM equivalent online for a decent price? There is a sea of options, it's hard to know which are quality.

Iphone 12 pro

thank you!
