We all know about Soulscreep but what about Skillcreep

The more games I play the more I master the basic mechanics of dodge or parry and it’s gotten to the point where I fear I’ll never feel like a victim to any of these bosses again. Half the fun is that feeling of drowning in difficulty. Been thinking about picking up bullet hells or something or maybe I’ll even go outside for a couple of months to regress my ability.

And all this isn’t to say challenge runs won’t be hard cause D5 LoP and Elden Ring challenge run will still kick my ass. It’s more so just a disappointment when a soulslike has a base game that I find too easy.

Wuchang difficulty quite a bit overrated

This game was recommended to me when I asked for a challenge after finishing Khazan and LoP. It was relatively difficult but like DS3 difficulty, a lot of people say it’s super difficult but it’s honestly a very forgiving game compared to some of the harder titles that came out recently.
Reasons:
The I-frame on dodge is extremely generous and despite what a lot of people say you can dodge almost any move combo with well positioned dodging.
The different weapons all have some way to make the game way easier. I use longsword so if I want I can parry and backstab enemies to oblivion. And I’ve heard rumors abt the axe being more OP.

Edit: looks like I missed the good version of this game rip
The game is easier because it was nerfed, but I don’t really understand why people are using that as a point to disagree with me when that point proves me right??

Played 80% of the game at +4 weapon

I feel like this has to be common, but maybe not. I got all the way to >!Vermillion Honglan,!< but the damage felt comically low and +4 seemed like an odd place for a weapon to stop upgrading. Turns out I had enough to go to +9 already.

Locked myself out of DoS and I’m heartbroken.

I gave that dude a chisel without thinking about it so I’m locked out of one of the best fights in the game💔. I’ve never played ng+ for anything and probably won’t start now.
Edit: >!Just got stabbed by that stupid chud and ng lets me keep all healing upgrades. That ending has me so annoyed I may run through it, everyone saying it can be sub 10 hours so I probably will do it.!<

What setting is your ball crusher on?

Every good soulslike player plays with the ball crusher and blindfolded but my crusher has low, medium, and high settings. High is a little too much for me, I don’t think I’m a good enough gamer I guess, I always play with my crusher on medium.

What’s your go to outside of soulslikes?

What else scratches that itch for you? The only genre that truly checks the boxes I care about (exploration, growth, and hard bosses) is metroidvanias. I love the fights in Cag’s but it doesn’t usually draw me in the way soulslikes and metroidvanias do.

Soulscreep

There was once a time I thought Gael was the hardest it was gonna get. But these days I feel like every good soulslike has a boss or two harder than anything from ds3 or earlier. Personally I like it but idk what the consensus is.

Is this the right amount of damage output?

It is legendary but maybe I missed an upgrade or possibly I needed to switch weapon. I already beat the game but honestly not sure if I put myself through a little extra torture.

Lost Crown + Mask of Darkness DLC is absolutely amazing.

This game was amazing from start to finish, including dlc.

On immortal difficulty I genuinely think this game deserves the same level of combat praise as Nine Sols and Hollow Knight (my two favorite MV).
The 4 boss fights before the final boss are amazing fights that are extremely satisfying. Even though the finals boss is a step down in the combat it’s cinematically great. Something I really like is that there are difficulty options so anyone can enjoy these fights, the immortal fights are that type of difficulty that people love about nine sols, and you can always shift it down if you need to.

What takes this game to another level for me is the two fights at the end of the DLC. One of the main complaints for endgame was that you get too much health. The main dlc boss fixes this issue by finding a lore reason to simply take half your health. And the hidden dlc boss fixes the issue by scaling up the bosses damage and giving them the peak move set the game has to offer.

For those that love parkour this game has extremely creative and difficult parkour with there even being challenge missions for parkour. By the end of the game you have so many tools for parkour and it gets so interesting.

Overall one of the best metroidvanias I’ve played.

Eldest Souls

This game very clearly was trying to mooch off of the fromsoft traffic. This made it often get compared to soulslikes while it is almost nothing like a soulslike. I’ve seen a lot of dislike for this game but personally I think it’s a good game.

The game has exceptional boss fights and pretty good pixel art. There is no in between however it’s just straight fights with basically no exploration, and on top of that I would say this game is more difficult than nearly half the fromsoft catalog. But if you love boss fights you should definitely play this.

If they hadn’t chosen to try and mooch their name I think this game would’ve been much more well received. If you’ve played Furi it has a similar formatting.

All that said I had a lot of fun and had a really fun 9 hours for 20 bucks 8/10 game 10/10 experience if you love boss fights.

Looking for some bosses that really butter my biscuit

I play most these game specifically for the boss fights and I’m struggling to find any more bosses who are kosm or slave knight Gael level. Khazan had a boss harder, lies of p had 2, Nioh 1 and 2 were great and each had a boss around that level.
Games played:
All of from soft except AC6
Nioh 1-2 (waiting for dlc on 3)
Khazan
Lies of P
Wo Long
Hollow knight + Silksong
Nine sols
Non souls-likes:
Where winds meet (bad game good bosses)
Cuphead
Rabi ribi
Furi
Sifu

Was told if Gaiden came out now it would be coined a soulslike.

I don’t agree but I’d like to know what NG fans think about this, am willing to be convinced I’m wrong.
But as of now this feels like blasphemy.

Which Ninja Gaiden has the hardest individual bosses?

I’ve been playing NG2B as my first ng game because I was told it was one of the harder ones only in terms of boss fights (I know the level itself isn’t as hard as the OG). I’ve been enjoying them albeit a little easy compared to the path to get to them, even playing mentor as first playthrough. I do know there will be a couple hard ones later and I’m very excited but which game has the hardest ones because I’d like to play that one next.

Playing on way of mentor for first run any tips

This is my first run on any NG game and I’m having a blast. Haven’t had much trouble with the first two levels but I imagine it’s only going to get more intense. Are there any mechanics I need to be aware of and practicing before I get to later game? Also what’s a good weapon to use?

Just got the platinum for Khazan

God the combat in this game is so smooth and every fight I enjoyed (I know a lot of people did not enjoy some) there’s so many fighting mechanics in this game it’s hard to even fully call it a soulslike but a lot of the other parts of the formula felt a lot like ds3.
I kinda like the linear gameplay a lot of soulslikes go for because unless it’s the 🐐 (Elden ring) I just wanna get to the fights.
I also like the approach of longer fights that don’t have a lot of one shot moves because I learn the fight on less deaths and get less angry.

Hismar is one of my favorite dragon fights in any souls like

I really like dragon fights where you get to fight head on and hismar is exactly that. I like that he has a lot of health compared to other bosses cause he’s a dragon and they’re humans, and his moveset is pretty easy to learn. Outside of Midir this is my favorite dragon fight.

Spoiler for mid game!

Why the hell did Khazan give Hismars scale to Xilence. This himbo didn’t even give us the option he just did that shit. I don’t know what’ll happen but we literally saw it transform viper and we know Xilence is pissed so I feel like there’s no way it ends well. Maybe I’m trippin though I just gave it to him so maybe it’ll be fine.

Edit :/

First play through looking for an average build

I don’t like making games too easy by picking an inconspicuous weapon that happens to be a moveset buster. Like how the kusarigama in Nioh 1 makes the game quite a bit easier cause the range trivializes a lot of the boss moves. Are there any like that I should avoid or are all weapons pretty standard.
