When people say that Taco Bell is unhealthy or isn't authentic Mexican food

We all know that. Nobody is going there for a luxurious dining experience. Nobody thinks that Todd the undergrad student in the kitchen is bringing his own family Mexican recipes. We're there because it's cheap and convenient, and tastes pretty good. I once knew a girl who, any time it came up, would interject with "You know they use end-of-life beef, right?" and just look at you like she expected the weight of all your sins to crush you on the spot. First, I'm pretty sure all beef is technically end-of-life. Second, if she meant that they use cows that are old, that's not some huge grievous problem. The reason a soft taco costs like a dollar is because the ingredients are not high quality. Everyone eating it knows and accepts this. Idk why people feel a need to do this

Edit: A soft taco is actually $2. Redditors will really do anything but accept a minor hyperbole and move on

Questions for my first endowment session in over a year

Hey all, today I'm doing my first endowment session in a long time, and my brain loves to overrlthink small stuff, so I figured I'd just come ask here to put my brain at ease.

I remember that when I leave the locker room, I need to have the little white packet, and I need to be wearing my white shirt and pants. What I don't remember is whether I need to be wearing a white tie or white shoes. And it's stressing me out even though I know it shouldn't

Also, is there anything else I should remember that won't come naturally during the session? Thanks in advance!

Anything on social media called a "challenge" that isn't challenging in any way

Before I deleted Instagram a few months ago, I kept seeing something called the "stfu challenge". All it was was videos where a group of friends would all look at the camera one by one and say "shut the fuck up". Like do y'all really not have any skills to show off beyond that? No cool knowledge to share? The peak of your content-creating abilities is to say normal words at a camera? And that's challenging for you?

Same with all those "Challenge: name one band that starts with [letter]". That's not a challenge. Think for 3 seconds and you can come up with a fairly popular band whose name starts with any letter you choose. Like 95% of the dance "challenges" require no skill or effort. It's like 8 moves max and they're almost all done with just your arms and hands

I'm sure if I downloaded any short-term video app and scrolled for 10 minutes I'd find more examples. It just pisses me off

Guess which show this is about

This was at the top of my feed just now. I realized it could honestly refer to so many sitcoms, so take your guesses!

When people refer to themselves as broke when they really just choose not to spend money

I'm in college, and I see this a lot. Personally, I'm not on scholarships, I don't have parents paying for anything, I work 2 jobs and a side hustle and lock tf in to make rent and tuition. You don't see me complaining (except here, but this is the complaining sub so it's different). Then you have Braxtlon who's never met a problem his daddy's Amex couldn't solve, always referring to himself as a "broke college student" just because he has the option to save his money for a house or whatever so he'd rather do that.

One of my jobs is in a restaurant, and at least 2 or 3 times a day, I see someone pull through in a Tesla or other expensive-but-still-tasteless car, I try to upsell them because that's my job, and they hit me with the "I can't, I'm a broke college student haha". Mf you aren't broke. You have money, you're just choosing to save it. And that's great, I'd be doing the same if I could, but don't act like you're some victim of circumstance out here.

It feels almost silly to say, but they haven't earned the struggle. So when they call themselves broke as a cheap way to "justify" to themselves not buying something, it just really sucks

People who make it your problem that they didn't get in the correct lane

I feel like I'm seeing this more and more. Someone wasn't paying attention, they didn't get in the lane they needed, and they almost miss their turn/exit. Do they do the responsible thing and just loop the block or get off at the next exit a mile down the road? Nope! Why be safe when you can just veer across 2 lanes of traffic with no signal or a signal that only blinked once before you start moving, almost causing several accidents? That's clearly the more rational way to handle the situation

[Hiring] artist for a drawing of an OC, details in post (PLEASE READ POST)

I want a drawing of an OC that's human, but his right leg is a scaled down horse leg and his left is a goat leg. The drawing would be from behind, so no face to draw. He has short hair and wears a half-length cloak (so the legs are visible). He'd be holding a sword (specific one, I'll send reference photos ofc) with a specific symbol set in the hilt. He also has a design on the back of his cloak, and a familiar that's a bumblebee roughly the size of a raven with a swirl of neon orange and neon blue light around him. I want him standing at the edge of some woods looking outward, maybe a vague sunset-like gradient or something.

Budget: $55 USD, willing to go up to $65 if your portfolio/style really lines up with what I'm looking for and you're good at working with neon lights for the bumblebee

Just one thing:

I feel like every time I post here, I get 90% bots. Both AI "art" bots and potentially real artists who have a bot set up to reply to every post in this sub. I don't want that. I want someone who thinks they could do a good job with my OC because they catch the fun fantasy vision, not because they're just pumping out drawings for paychecks (though a paycheck is, of course, included). So, just to filter those out, if you're interested, please leave a comment (not a dm, just a comment on this post) telling me your favorite post-impressionism painting and including a link to your VGen or other similar site. That'll let me see your relevant work, and I'll submit the actual commission through that site for both of our safety.

Thank you for your consideration!

People who don't understand that "rare" doesn't inherently mean "valuable"

No, grandma, those random coins you bought in the 80s are not worth thousands. They're worth $20 if you even manage to find someone who wants them. I do not care that the company who made them said that it's a "limited minting" or "only 1,000 made". Some random company made them and somehow tricked you into thinking they mattered.

This applies to all kinds of stuff btw. Comics (not all, but many), clothes, CDs and other retro music stuff, etc. SOMETIMES rarity creates value, but far too many people forget that the other factor in the equation is "demand". If anything rare was valuable, every artist would be rich

Can I tape a Tesla coil to an evap cooler to vaporize the PM2.5 particles in my room?

There's a lot of smoke from wildfires nearby and I don't have an air filter or anything, but I have an evaporative cooler and a Tesla coil. This'll be fine, right?

I would love a recommendation for a good budget knife, requirements below

I've been buying Smith and Wesson knives for my emergency packs and the upcoming camping and fishing trips I'm planning. I just learned that their knife quality doesn't match their gun quality like I assumed, and it's all cheap steel and Chinese factory dropshipped bs whose only connection to S&W is licensing deals.

I'm now looking for budget knives ($40 absolute max per knife) that will hold up well under pressure. I'm open to recommendations for both camping/outdoor use and EDC, and I'm open to both flip and fixed blades. The only thing I'm absolutely set on (other than the price max) is that the metal and other materials be quality and that it lasts me a while.

I'd be grateful if you'd share your recommended knives and the price they tend to be. Thank you!

When people either expect discounts or complain about being broke just because they're a college student

Yes, I think it's bs that college is as expensive as it is. But also, there are definitely career paths that don't require college. Trades, apprenticeships, on the job training/experience-built jobs, all that. So when I hear college students say stuff like "I wish I could afford that but I'm a broke college student" it kind of pisses me off. You being a college student is irrelevant. You don't see people saying "Haha I wish I could afford that designer jacket but I'm a broke single mother" or "Too bad I can't add guacamole to my Chipotle bowl because I'm a broke army veteran". You choosing to go to college doesn't make you a victim of circumstance. Say you can't afford stuff because you're broke if you like, but stop acting like you're all misfortuned because you're a student.

Nuances: Obviously some students really are victims of circumstance. This is not about them. I once saw a girl who was doing cheap online classes while living with her parents (they didn't charge her anything) and working full time say that she couldn't afford an $11 trinket at the mall because she was a broke college student. Girl you don't have any bills. If you'd rather save your money, that's your business. But don't act like you're just destitute out here, and like your classes somehow relate to it. I've also heard this type of thing from people who I know for a fact are on scholarships and/or having their parents pay all their bills and tuition, and they're just choosing not to get a job because they have all their needs met by others like that. If you're choosing not to get a job that's your deal, but do not act like a helpless broke victim because of it.

And to be clear, I myself am a college student. A college student with absolutely no parental support or scholarships or anything, paying every last penny of my own rent, bills, and tuition myself. I am working full time on top of school and somehow magically still manage to have the funds left to enjoy myself and buy stuff that I like. So when Emily whose parents pay all her bills works 8 hours a week at the campus bookstore because she doesn't have to meet her own needs, starts complaining about not having as much pocket money as she wishes, it does piss me off

Can anyone recommend a good local car detailer without spending a ton?

The inside of my car has gotten kind of dirty (especially the mats and cupholders), and while it isn't catastrophic, it is to the point where idek how I would go about cleaning it myself (I have tried lol). I'm ready to spend anywhere under $200 for a pro to handle it for me, I just have had too many experiences with scams and just low quality work when it comes to cars. Does anyone have someone local that does good work that they can recommend? Thanks!

Any idea who this is?

I found this figure in the custom printed minifig case at my local secondhand LEGO store. He was in with all the Star Wars customs, but I don't know who it is. I'm not the most knowledgeable about the EU, so thanks in advance for anyone who knows who it could be!

"They're all men too, they know what it looks like"

Growing up, I occasionally found myself in places where I was expected to change clothes (getting fully nude or close to it) in front of others. Places like Boy Scout camps, public rec centers, etc. And whenever I said I didn't want to because I was uncomfortable with that, some old guy (sometimes a scout leader, sometimes someone's parent, etc.) always had to chime in with "We're all men, we already know what it looks like."

No, Earl, the reason I don't want to strip in front of these people as a 12-year-old is not because I think they don't know what a penis looks like and I want to hide that knowledge from them. It's because I'm afraid of pervs. And frankly, your insistence that I strip down right here right now when I could just go to the bathroom stall and change there isn't helping your case.

Old people who don't understand that the world is different now

Obviously there are the common examples, like costs being up but wages being the same or not being able to just walk in and ask for a job anywhere. But I have other examples too.

For example, how service workers are treated. Old people are used to being given a premium experience everywhere they go, even fast food places. But it's different now. Nobody is being paid enough to pick up everyone's trash off their Taco Bell table, and it's a dick move to leave your trash there.

Also, a specific one, comic books. I'm trying to sell most of my collection right now (I'm 22, it's mostly last 6 years stuff), and when I mentioned that to a older guy at a wedding last week, he was like "No don't sell comics, they'll probably go way up in value." No, gramps, they won't. The foundational characters already exist, and I will bet every dollar I own that my random issue of Spider-Man from 2024 will never be valued at more than $5 (adjusted for inflation obvs)

I'm just sick of them not knowing that the world is changing

This fine gentleman's name is Gatori btw

It doesn't say it in the movie, but it's listed in the Databank. I actually loved his design and character. Nal Hutta is obviously based on the swamps of the American south (just look at Mama Hutt), and he perfectly fits the vibe of a friendly guy who's lived there for decades and is content to just chill in his bayou and relax. I would actually be down to see more content with him in it, though I'm not sure what it would look like
