Color Consistency within brands?

Do brands have consistency in colors across all of the styles? I’ve been looking online for brunette wigs and it looks like there is big variation in colors. Do you try to make sure the color and length are consistent so people don’t guess that you’re wearing a wig?

The Gift of Left Up - Instinct

I had a terrible haircut a week and a half ago. I saw a different stylist last week and now I will say that I hate it less. Although, everyone else seems to really like it now. People keep telling me how cute it is. But I hate it less. It’s objectively terrible and I agree that it actually looks good.

But I still hate it because it is not me which is making me think about instinct and the Left Up quadrant how showing ourselves is essential in this quadrant.

I’ve decided to try out wigs which may be a total disaster. But I’m realizing that this appeals to me because it allows me to express myself without having to go through a hair stylist. (Sorry if this doesn’t make sense. I’m having a hard time expressing it in words.) But I feel like when you go to the hairstylist and show your inspiration pictures, they still bring their own preferences to the haircut. They still see me in a way that doesn’t always fit with how I see myself.

In my journey through this system, I have realized that I actually have a very strong point of view and do not like it when I feel like other people are imposing their perspectives onto me. I feel like this might actually be the real strength of this system. It teaches you to honor your POV.

I know this is a rambling post so apologies.

It is really weird for me to receive compliments about a hairstyle that doesn’t feel like me. I find myself responding thanks but I really hate it. I think this gets to the whole “flattering” discussion. What is most important? What other people want to see on you or how you want other people to see you?

Are wigs an alternative to dying hair (early graying)?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. This very new to me. I searched the sub but couldn’t find that this was asked before.

I got a terrible haircut last week. It’s way too short. I’m getting it fixed this week but we’ve got to go shorter to fix the layers.

I started going gray in my 20s and have been dying my hair since then. I get my roots covered every 3 weeks and it is very expensive.

Are wigs an alternative to dying hair to cover grays?

They are going to burn it all down

I just watched this video and it echoed what I’ve been feeling watching the MI senate primary play out.

I was thinking about Rabbi Hirsch’s tirade against ordaining anti-Zionist Reform rabbis and how we need to get back to “particularism.” Where does that leave those of from intermarried families?

If democracy ends in the USA, where does that leave us Jews with messy lineage?

It’s almost like the return to “particularism” is intended to forget the idea of solidarity.

It does feel like they are willing to burn down our democracy, destroy our Jewish communities and families over this issue. Alienate a generation of Jews by telling them that they are fake Jews because they sympathize with Palestinians.

Don’t understand persona

I’m not sure I understand persona. Regardless, I don’t think I’m using it now because I’m feeling a very strong need to be myself right now. I definitely don’t think I use personable.

I’m feeling a bit of imposter syndrome sharing these here because my style isn’t as elaborate as the other Left Down people here. In my defense, it’s been hot as hades here and I WFH. I’m living in my jeans shorts and sandals.

Is persona creating a character? Hmmm…I feel like I am dressing to be a part of myself, if that makes sense. This part of myself is simple, no nonsense.

Extensions to grow out bad/too short haircut?

I’ve never had extensions before. I got a very bad haircut last week. I’ve scheduled a consult appointment with another stylist next week to discuss options.

Would extensions be an option? My hair is colored. Can you even have extensions if you dye your hair?

I wanted a short bob, like maybe chin length, and got Becky Conner from Roseanne circa 1995.

Missing the softness of 🌱

This is my July calendar from Indyx. I don’t usually add jewelry or bags in Indyx because I don’t like creating new outfits just I felt like changing wearing different earrings. I WFH and it’s been very hot so everything is very casual. I was out of town in the middle of the month and did not track my outfits.

I just got a terrible haircut and it made me realize something. While the “with edge” component to my style is very important to me, I also need softness. It’s a bad cut overall but it’s too angular.

So about a month ago, I claimed 🌙 for myself. I prefer darker colors. Its values are important to me. I am somewhat contrarian. Stereotypical 🌱 does nothing for me. I hate all of EJR’s 🌱 boards.

But 🏔️ and 🪨 don’t provide enough softness for me. I experimented with 🌸 because I wanted that that softness. I love Mary Jane’s.

🍄 can provide softness but I like contrasting colors. 🪨 is my strongest root because it brings a cool urban vibe but not in a cold way. It is the black and silver jewelry that I’m drawn to. 🏔️ is there because I like contrasting strong colors (mostly black and white) and classic pieces.

But I think the 3rd root is actually 🌱 because it brings the softness. My terrible haircut is making me realize that I used my hair to add that softness. I also add softness in the textiles and silhouette.

So for the second time I’m realizing that the people on this sub were right about my roots actually being 🪨🏔️🌱. I think what I was looking for in 🌙, I’ve actually found in how I interpret 🪨.

Extensions for short hair?

I got a very bad hair cut and have an appointment with a stylist for next week to discuss options. My hair is way too short.

Can you get extensions with short hair? I’ve never had extensions before.

Did I get a bad haircut?

I think it is shorter than I wanted but I can’t figure out if it’s actually bad or not. It is much shorter than I wanted. The first picture was the inspiration. During the cut, we talked about the length being at my mouth and this is clearly shorter.

Can I save this? Maybe try a bixie to get the heaviness off of my face?

Jewish Twitter?

I used to lurk on Jewish Twitter in the pre-Elon days. I sometimes pop on now just to see what is on. Of course it’s a disaster. Most of the people I followed migrated to Bluesky.

I popped on a few days ago and saw a tweet from Jeremy Ben-Ami (J Street guy). The responses were really shocking. It looked like there are no liberal Jews left on Twitter. Almost every response was from conservative Jews who called him a “kapo” and accused him of sympathizing with Hamas.

I know Twitter is terrible and full of right-wing chuds but it still surprised me.

Is Jewish X now completely right-wing? Or did the liberal Jews get radicalized after 10/7?

A new style muse - Leslie Jones

She’s been doing a lot of podcasts recently and I keep thinking how good her style is. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her discussed as a style icon.

I particularly like the upper and lower left pictures. So preppy but also so cool. There isn’t any stiffness.

I’m never good at seeing roots. What do you see? 🏔️ seems obvious. Maybe 🪨 because she’s so cool. I also see glamour so maybe 🔥?

They’re not that weird

I find myself being frustrated with many of the standard “weird girl lit” recommendations because the main characters aren’t that weird.

It seems like this a failure of imagination. A woman who is kind of different is so bizarre that we think she’s “weird.” IDK.

I just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Fine. She was not “weird.” She was traumatized.

I just started Exciting Times. This MC is not weird. It seems to be another angsty young woman novel.

Style vs Personality?

Some of the responses to my post about body modifications made me think about this. What is the difference between style and personality? Or is there actuality a difference? Do you see a relationship between your style and your personality?

I’m not sure what I think about this. I suspect there is a connection but it may not be a direct correlation.

Body Modification as Style

I’ve been thinking about piercings and tattoos since Stephen Miller gave the speech about how everyone in antifa had “deformed” their bodies in some way. I’ve also heard that tattoos can’t be mimicked in AI although I don’t know if that’s true.

Do you see your piercings and/or tattoos as part of your style? Does it fit into the Style Matrix?

I have some tattoos in places that no one can see. I’ve been considering getting a tattoo lower on my arms in a way that couldn’t be covered by short sleeves.

My ears are double pierced. I’ve never considered other types of ear piercings because I’m afraid of the pain.

Why we wear black

Sharing this because I think some might find it interesting. I’m in a black phase right now which I think is because I’m in a contemplative phase. Maybe I’m also seeking safety?

I think that the 🌙 root isn’t well understood by EJR and can often be portrayed in a stereotypical way.

Jones Road What the Foundation & sunscreen?

I’m seeing lots of ads for this and I’m getting curious about this again. My fears about how this would play with sunscreen has always held me back from purchasing.

If you like this foundation, how did it work with sunscreen underneath? I know it’s oil based and very emollient. I’m afraid that means it could dissolve the underlying sunscreen layer.

Zionism as Anti-colonialism?

I’ve watched so many people lose their minds since 10/7. I’m always trying to figure out where they get their ideas from. Who do they read? Who radicalized them on Twitter?

I’ve noticed two ideas that seem to have really captured the minds of certain people but I can’t figure out where they came from.

The first is the argument that Zionism is the ultimate form of anti-colonialism. Did I just not pay enough attention to I/P debates before 10/7 and that’s why I’d never come across this before? I think some of these people are bots or trolls. I remember a few accounts on Twitter claiming to be Native Americans but they fervently supported Israel.

The other is about solidarity with feminists in Iran.

Are these all just cynical ideas that started with Israeli government propaganda?

When did you stop trying to stop aging?

I’m in my mid-50s. I do Botox, dye my hair, and use tret. I do Botox on my forehead and around my eyes. Truthfully, I think I look about 10 years younger than I am.

I’ve been watching Four Seasons on Netflix and noticed that you can see lines around Tina Fey’s and Kerri Kenney-Silver’s eyes. They look great.

Have any of you stopped doing all of this? If so, when did you do it? Did you do it gradually? How did you feel about yourself once you stopped?
