Villa G Mazzini- This park was name after the Italian Nationalist Giuseppe Mazzini, the main park in Messina Sicily. This park in Baucina was created in 1920’s by local priests to commemorate the dead of WWI with cypress trees in the memory of the soldiers. Also contains WW2 relics.

Cypress Trees 🌲 symbolizing mourning and remembrance and are usually found in cemeteries from ancient Roman, which they got from the Etruscan tribes which viewed the trees as spiritual connection from Earth to heaven. Cypress Tree secretes an oil thats fragrant and is used to ward off bad spirits and cover the smell of the dead. These trees live for a long time- up to 2,000 years and are evergreens, never losing their leaves in winter and that was seen as supernatural power and were planted around to protect the sacred Necropolis (burial grounds).
