Appropriate clothing for children in winter?

Good evening all. my family and I are planning a trip to Todtnau and my wife seems to be preparing and looking at clothing for the north pole!

Obviously, layering is important and I know how I would dress however, hyperactive 7 yr olds tend to run a lot and, sweat a lot so, my question is: what would be ideal day-to-day clothing for 2 boys where they will run and jump and snow play?

Merino wool base layer is what I have already purchased for them and snow boots, and I believe my wife has already purchased ski jacket and trousers.

Any advice from locals or families who have been before will be more than appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The small jobs that make a machine feel like yours

I’ve been cleaning the type slugs on my Adler Triumph one by one—brush, Dremel, wipe, then onto the next. It’s probably my least favourite part of a restoration, but somewhere during that slow, repetitive work, the machine stops feeling like something I’ve simply bought and starts feeling properly mine.

What’s the small, easily overlooked job—cleaning, adjustment or repair—that makes you feel most connected to a machine?

Think I'm getting better...

Did a test to remember the top 10 moments of last week. I could only remember 1 so I wrote it down. Using the Planet method with my own method, felt much smoother writing than using finger motion. Still in practice. Your thoughts?

What’s the typewriter you nearly let go… but couldn’t?

I’ve got an Olivetti here that I originally picked up with every intention of refurbishing it, enjoying the process and then finding it a new home.

Except that last part hasn’t quite happened.

The more I’ve used it, the more I’ve started to enjoy the thing, and now I’m finding myself making excuses as to why it can stay a little longer.

It got me wondering, have you ever bought a typewriter planning to sell it on, or decided one in the collection had to go, only to completely change your mind once you started using it?

What was the machine that somehow earned its place?

What do you actually type on your typewriter?

We spend plenty of time talking about models, ribbons, repairs and collecting, but I’d love to hear what people actually put on the page.

Do you type journal entries, letters, stories, poems, lists, drafts, or simply a few lines to clear your head?

There’s no need to share anything private. I’m more interested in what brings you back to the machine and what typing gives you that writing on a phone or computer doesn’t.

For me, slowing down and committing each word to paper changes the way I think. What does it do for you?

The Typing Room weekend prompt: describe today in one typed paragraph

No masterpiece required. No perfect grammar, careful editing or profound thoughts.

Sit down at your typewriter and describe a small piece of your weekend in a single paragraph. It could be the weather outside, the sound of the house, somewhere you went, something you noticed, or simply how the day feels.

Share a photo of the typed page in the comments, or copy the paragraph below if you prefer. The machine, the paper and the words are entirely up to you.

Let’s see what this weekend sounds like from typing rooms around the world.

First try at this

Suddenly feel like a child again looking at this. I've never followed any method before, I've practiced and I guess developed my own way, maybe adapting or mixing a few methods here and there but it felt like making it interesting and attempting to try the Palmer Method...and it's very weird but, no hand cramp! Any ideas on practice? Maybe a way to improve the arm movemtnsoni don't go all over the place? Thank you

Finally scratching the itch

With the relentless heat and humidity we’ve been having here in Spain, sitting down at the typewriter has been almost impossible. The room becomes so hot and stuffy that I normally give up after five minutes.

Last night, though, a big storm rolled through and the temperature finally dropped. The first thing I wanted to do today was pull out the old Silent and start typing.

Nothing particularly exciting, just a summary of a slow, lazy Sunday, but it felt so good to type again. It’s been an itch I haven’t been able to scratch for weeks.

Thought I’d share a little of my happiness with you all

Just the way I Like it

My little corner is now perfect for yours truly - it's a mix of typewriter/analog film camera repair desk and also my writing desk.

It still needs some extras but it's gold for now. Can I see your writing/repair area?

Anniversary gift

Evening all - wife bought me. Waterman Carénée fine gold nib pen for our anniversary today. I love it! Was very excited however, first impression when I picked it up was, "it's plastic, but gold nib?" Ive had a look online too for the Carénée and I get more modern ones I think so I can't ID this pen properly. Even though it's stamped on it, I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on this? Thanks

Daddy find into new house

Do when dad moved into his new home, this was left behind. It's been sitting collecting more dust for the past 15 years until he told me about it today. I'm assuming, mid 50's Olivetti Hispano Lexicon 80. I'm assuming it was made for some sort of accounting as it has the multiple tab buttons, $&£ sign.

Any history or info on this would be cool. I'd like to fix and clean it for him.

Light seals - Konica C35EF

Afternoon folks, looking for help on anyone who has knowledge, has or has had, a C35EF. I'm currently replacing the light seals and I obviously know the 2 chanel's need filling however, internet says the door near the latch needs one. I figure it's on the camera body itself, not the door, except the one by the hinge... But I can't find any reference

Could someone help please?

My first

Just wanted to share "My First", the one responsible for getting me into this.

I found "Bumblebee" while searching an app for secondhand items. I wasn't actively looking for a typewriter yet, she came across my screen and really stood out. Guy wasn't asking for much, 45€, said it was more ornamental than working took but insisted it all worked well mechanically.

I took a chance.

1 week later, she was on my desk. Noo idea what I was looking at. Gave it a go, had original ribbon, little dry but all keys worked and all slugs left their mark. Then came all the YT videos, Reddit replaced FB, and now... 9 machines in, and my own little side hustle of repairing, restoring and finding them new homes, it was one of the greatest "chances" I've taken in my adult life and I've never been happier.

Bumblebee isn't something amazing, she's not "rare" but, she's mine, and very special to me.

Just felt like sharing.

Who was your first?

Do you still use her/him/it?

How did you come across it?

Oh no.. how to repair?

Hey guys, I just brought out the SC Silent and went to load paper and it's come loose. I need to change the rubber anyway however, what's a temp fix I could use for this?

Cheers

Minolta Autocord 1, according to the serial number. Mid to late 50's model. Picked it up for 129€. Everything works very smoothly. No fungus, just a little dust here and there so will need CLA.

Bought a roll of Gold 200 that arrives at the end of the week so hopefully it all works and I can share some kewl images!
