These ones are weird looking…

Another Hoya opened her flowers last night.

Hoya heuschkeliana
They smell of warm butterscotch.

Side note: I am aware that she appears dry in the leaves, she’s been having a hard time keeping her leaves hydrated while working on these blooms. She usually rebounds after blooming.

Hoya cross-pollination attempt

Last night I attempted to cross my seed-grown open-pollinated Hoya BNT02099 (‘Sunrise’ x unknown) seedling with my Hoya fungii.

I used pollen from the BNT02099 (‘Sunrise’ x unknown) to pollinate Hoya fungii. I did try to reverse as well but the fungii pollinia were nearly the same size as the BNT02099 flowers themselves.

Pics1-2: Hoya fungii
Pics 3-4: Hoya BNT02099 (‘Sunrise’ x unknown)
Pic 5: pollinia from Hoya fungii

The plants I used are not super compatible but we’ll see what happens. Updates to follow

Yet another cross-pollination attempt

My Alocasia heterophylla ‘Dragon’s Breath’ opened more inflos this morning and I had a small amount of pollen from last weeks melo inflo that I used to attempt pollination.

Even more flowers this morning!

Right before bed last night, my Hoya fungii started opening its flowers. So of course I immediately went to get pics the moment I woke up.

They smell like an odd cross between dandelion and rose.

Repotted our one year old Thai Constellations last night

We potted them together to make space for our other, smaller Monstera deliciosa cultivars that will one day get just as large (‘Lemon-Lime’, ‘Bulbasaur’, ‘Siam Mint’, White Monster, ‘Crème Brulee’, ‘Electrolye’, and ‘Marmorata’).

Potted them into a homemade chunky aroid mixture of coco chips, charcoal, perlite, and a dash of All-purpose mix.

This pot is quite a step up from their previous pots so extra care will be taken when watering for the next month or two. We added a large 1.5” thick bamboo rod in the center for extra support once it is needed.

I should be stoked right?

My seed-grown Hoya bloomed for the first time last week and I attempted to hand-pollinate 10 of the flowers (self-pollination).
The two circled flowers are among the 10 I attempted to pollinate. This is a good sign at this stage right?

Alocasia melo inflos

Yeah she’s only got one leaf.. but she’s pulling along.

I’m hoping to attempt cross-pollination again. (My ‘Dragon’s Breath’ is still flowering too.)

My Nepenthes are so ready to go outside

But even in May our local temps have been in the 40°s-50°s (F). They’ll just have to wait a few more weeks.

Alocasia ‘Blizzard’
Philodendron ‘Florida Ghost’
Monstera deliciosa ‘White Monster’
Monstera adansonii ‘Archipelago’

What do you have?

u/Xylem_King88 — 16 days ago

Alocasia heterophylla ‘Dragon’s Breath’ (Ignore that yellowing leaf behind the inflo, it’s the oldest leaf and it’s on its way out.)

(One of) my Amorphophallus konjac corms is about to flower for the first time (I believe). The spike started to show in February but didn’t move much until the past 2-3 weeks. It has double in size in the past week so it must be getting close!

What do you do with your self-pollinating Anthurium berries? My scandens it’s always covered in berries and the seed-crazy part of me says I need to save and sow every single one. I currently have 200 baby Anthurium scandens already growing. If I continue feeding the seed-sowing temptation, I won’t have any room left for anything other than Anthurium scandens.

I also realize that my scandens is still quite small. (And will get much larger, probably pushing out inflos the whole time)

I’m curious what you do with the Anthurium seeds you didn’t ask for?

In 2023 I started growing my own Hoya from seeds. Thus far, I have purchased all my seeds from online sellers but I hope to get my own seeds soon (I feel like 2026 is the year!)

I want to see your seed-grown Hoyas! Let us know in the comments if the seeds you used were purchased, spontaneously pollinated in your greenhouse, or intentionally hybridized.

I added a few photos of mine (various varieties)

4 years into growing Hoya and I FINALLY have peduncles showing on at least 30% of my ~70 some Hoya. Here are some of them that are almost ready to bloom!

-Hoya BNT05096 (AH003 x unknown)

-Hoya fungii (pics 2-3)

-Hoya ‘Bella’ (outer Var)

-Hoya (EPC271 x unknown)

My Anthurium scandens was purchased as a seedling and I threw it into a kokodama once it had about 6 leaves. That was almost a year ago.

She’s grown a ton and has even produced countless babies of her own! She recently decided that one growth point wasn’t enough and pushed out 5 new ones😵.

She’s watered once a week by soaking her in a tub of water with a diluted fertilizer for 15 mins. She hangs out in a south facing kitchen window.

Admire her with me😍
