How much did your UG college affect MBA placements?

I’m a BTech CSE student from a lesser-known/Tier-3 college, targeting CAT 2027. I have 93.8% in 10th, 91.5% in 12th and ~82% in graduation, and I’m OBC-NCL. I have also done multiple internships in sales and marketing but in small firms.
I keep seeing conflicting opinions about whether UG college brand continues to hurt during IIM placements, especially for consulting/finance.
I’d really like to hear from people who actually went through this:
Which IIM did you attend?
What was your UG college/background?
Did your UG brand affect SIP/placement shortlists?
Were there recruiters/roles you couldn’t apply to because of UG?
How difficult was it to break into consulting/finance/product roles?
Especially interested in hearing from Tier-3 engineers currently at or graduated from IIM ABC/BLACKI.
Please share your honest experience, even if it’s negative. I’m trying to make a realistic CAT 2027 decision rather than rely on Reddit anecdotes.

Need Guidance!!

I am going to start my third year as an engineering undergrad but I barely have any interest in it and even if I get any placement, I don’t think I would be able to survive much there. I am looking to pivot my career in core finance(equity research, portfolio management and all that). There are few options I can find for now, MBA from a good clg or CFA. I would have to take up a loan for MBA as most of our savings are gone in Btech but I can manage CFA somehow. I don’t know whether my profile is appropriate for a tier-1 MBA or not. Here are my acads-
94 and 96 in 10th and 12th and 8.86 in Btech(Tier 3) till now. OBC NCL and Also have NISM 8 and 15 certificates. Looking forward to your suggestions and advices!

I’ve sent thousands of cold messages. Here’s what actually works.

Two year ago, when I was starting my clg and was actively looking for different opportunities,I thought sales was just convincing people to buy.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work across different industries—from helping generate outbound opportunities that contributed to over $1M in signed business, to working as a closer for an Asian industrial boiler company, and now diving deep into consultative outbound for B2B service businesses.

One thing I’ve learned:
People don’t buy because of clever scripts.
They buy because you understand their business better than everyone else emailing them.
Today, my workflow looks something like this:
• Research companies instead of mass blasting emails.
• Understand bottlenecks before reaching out.
• Build personalized outreach based on real business signals.
• Focus on conversations and building authority instead of please book a call!

I am always looking to work with founders and organisations looking for appointment setting, dm setting and linkedin or Instagram outreach.

Sometimes one well-researched email is worth more than a thousand generic ones.
