Can you ride the kiddie rides solo as an adult?

Hey team

Before I got my season pass I looked up the ADA requirements to see if I could ride the ones for children because I’m not really a thrill ride kind of person— but when I got to the park, I saw that Sprocket Rockets and the Kidzopolis rides basically said that you can’t ride without a child. Do they actually enforce this rule? :( I really wanted to try Sprocket Rockets at least and don’t have a handy child I can borrow

Edit— thanks team! Seems like we misinterpreted the signage, I’m dragging my partner on to sprocket rockets and zoom jets the next time we go :)

Books on kimono tailoring and sewing?

Hey team :)

I’ve been in the habit of making yukata for myself and I would like to expand my skillset to tailoring kimono and also making kimono for larger people. Does anyone know of a good book or resource for learning this?

What is allowed in the subreddit? (Mod seeking your opinions)

Hey hey team :)

I wanted to do a vibe check on what is allowed in the subreddit. There’s been an influx of posts I personally feel are off topic and I want to see if I’m just being too strict or if these are truly off-topic.

For starters, I think the dyeing subreddit should have posts that are (object)+(pigment). I think that’s pretty basic.

  1. There’s been posts that are asking about fabric painting with fabric paints— I personally feel that fabric paints (NOT painting with dyes) are off topic because fabric paints behave differently from fabric dyes. While many of us dabble in both, I feel that the body of knowledge here should be focused on dyes not paints. That being said, there is not a more focused and active subreddit to direct these questions to.

  2. There’s been an influx of posts that are bleach painting/bleaching topics. These make me wary because

A- A lot of them are from new accounts sharing the content to multiple subreddits at the same time and I can’t tell if they are Bots or AI generated content. I don’t want AI to become a significant presence on the subreddit.

B- Bleaching works through the removal of dye, not the addition of it. Again, while many of us dabble in both, the techniques are different and I want the subreddit to remain on topic.

C- There’s active bleaching subreddits that have a body of knowledge/community these posters can tap into

  1. Tie Dye posts also get shared here with some frequency. I’m ambivalent towards these. It’s on topic but there’s also an active tie dye subreddit. Additionally, the posts are frequently cross posted to multiple subreddits and I can’t tell if they’re bots or AI generated content. HOWEVER they make a significant portion of the tags for finished objects! The subreddit is a LOT of “how do I dye this” and advice seeking from new people, I would like to encourage more posts to inspire people!

Bedazzling my heels? Safety issue?

Hey team!

My neighbor gave me the bedazzling bug and I’m running out of stuff to add gems to.

My local rink is very lax about stuff on the skating floor, but I wasn’t sure if bedazzled heels on my skates might not be allowed at other rinks? I wasn’t sure if it was a safety since there’s a chance the gems could fall off while I’m skating and make a hazard for other skaters

Which color work method?

Hey team :)

I want to make a piece of merch repping a band I like— I plugged their logo into stitch fiddle and got this chart I like!!

I’m trying to plot out how I would like to do this project— I was originally thinking I should probably do fair isle for the big letter shapes but now I’m wondering if I should do intarsia because the first and last letters on the bottom extend much lower than the other letter and it’s too long to have floats.

The other letters have spaces up to IIRC 16 stitches long before a color change, which I think I can manage by catching my floats?

The “dripping” sections I think should just be duplicate stitch

Or maybe duplicate stitch for the whole sweater if the way to go….? I have a knitting machine I’m proficient with, so knitting a large black panel and duplicate stitch could be a faster more evenly tensioned option

Paintbox Cotton Aran- preventing red bleeding into white cotton yarn, what can I do?

Hey hey team

I wanted to make one of those cute granny square kerchiefs I’ve been seeing around and dug through my stash and found some cotton Aran weight Paintbox yarn. I’ve previously used it on a black/white sweater which I’ve washed several times without color any bleeding.

This is my first time blocking granny squares: I dunked them in warm water, gently squished them in a towel, and pinned them to my board. I took this picture at the start of my process but now, the next morning, I’ve noticed some of the red dye has begun bleeding into the white. It’s fairly minimal but I wanted to know if there was something I could do to prevent my red bleeding on other projects?

My other paintbox yarns all seem pretty color fast and I assumed the red would be too 😭 would unwinding the skeins and pre-washing them help prevent bleeding? I feel like the paintbox cottons have a pretty good reputation for color fastness so I feel kind of betrayed but I should’ve known red would be a problem.

Alternatively, is there another way to block my project that requires less water? I’m not sure steaming would help loosen up the cotton the way it doesn’t acrylic or wool.

Honestly I’m thinking of purposefully giving them a long soak in water to get more dye to bleed so the white would look more purposefully heathered 😆

I’m still on my first pair of skates which are impalas— they’re holding up fairly well so far but I’ve already decided to start tucking away money for my next pair of skates. I got really overwhelmed with choices because I enjoy my current skates but… y’know I could do with some better bearings…. and maybe I would like a harder wheel? soft wheel? I wasn’t sure! Would I like a lighter plate? Am I committed to my high tops? Everyone told me I’d learn a lot about my preferences as I used my skates but I didn’t really know what to think about when evaluating what I liked and what I might like more.

I’ve also been trying to pick up inline skating— I’ve only been trying mine out for about two weeks but I’ve been enjoying it! I’ve been doing so many loops of my block!

This weekend my partner and I planned to go inline skating around a park but it ended up raining and so I took my inlines (instead of my quads) to the roller rink— and I was SO miserable. The crowd there skews fairly young. I was so wrapped up learning how to dodge everyone on my inlines- which is an important lesson but maybe one I wasn’t as prepared for. I was completely focused on keeping everyone safe and not skating like an asshole instead of Skating Joy!!! I ended up renting a pair of quads for the rink- I wanted my familiar quad fun!!

ALSO MISERABLE 😭 these skates had a much lower heel than I’m used to, so I would shift my weight a little forward and put my weight in the wrong spot 😭 the wheels were harder and I felt my feet skittering out from under me because they were so much faster and more responsive (?) 😭 the whole skates were way lighter than my current ones and it felt soooo weird to lift up my feet and propel myself forward 😭 (the skates were also pretty well loved and had toe stops that were mostly ground away but that’s a different issue)

I felt so unbalanced with those— but it did teach me what I like about my skates. So for a $4 rental I really got my money’s worth in lessons 😭

I don’t really excel at anything physical, skating included, but I’ve been happy with my slow progress. I’m not really looking to be a great skater— just to have my skating joy and be safe skating with others. But I really felt like crying because I was so anxious about crashing into others and couldn’t really enjoy myself. I’m proud to say the one time I took a fall was when someone else was falling and they lurched out and took me down with them.

Turns out I love my kinda slow kinda heavy high tops— any recs?

Hey team!

I’m currently skating on a pair of impalas I bought when I didn’t know better and I’m setting a little money aside for my next pair. Currently deciding what my next set up will be but I’m like 90% sure I’ll be buying something with a plain white or black boot.

That being said, I’m being a big baby about it 😆 and clicked on an Impala sale link and WANT SOME COLOR

God damn it I already planned to paint my boot anyway but I would love to see other people show off their paint jobs to help keep my strong 😆

Thanks ❤️
