What OS for Raspberry Pi 400 as kiosk server?

Note: I am a Raspberry Pi newbie, this is my only Pi, and I haven't done anything with it in many years, and even then I just futzed around with it.

I have an old pi 400 that I am repurposing as a server for a kiosk. I am serving a webpage from Home Assistant with cameras and some other smart home features.

I am on Buster, and it was going fine until I got to the point where I wanted to hide the cursor... Then I ran into repository problems trying to get unclutter.

I'm currently thinking that instead of screwing around with either repository problems or building my own cursor (I spent a while on building a blank cursor and decided I was being stupid), it is probably best to just upgrade to a newer OS.

So I will never touch this Pi again, basically. It will be a dedicated device just to run the wall mounted touchscreen and I expect it to just serve one webpage in fullscreen until it dies. I'll update the page in Home Assistant, the most I would have to do would be to get into the Pi to reboot and then force reload the page.

What OS would you recommend I use? Thanks!

Dealing with video surveillance needs from a different location.

We have cameras and a switch (annke POE), and I was planning on just using an old PC to run a gateway with Blue Iris or similar. Now we're planning on renting the house out and being much too far to come back to restart things so I need a solution that will come back online automatically if we have internet or power outages.

I don't know if I can set that up with a PC (I can run Linux or Windows). We recently had a 2 day power outage, but that is very rare, so possibly a UPS with the PC? I'm just not sure what the right plan is here.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!

Time in NRT

I'll be arriving at 11:35 AM on an international flight (Korean Air). I'll have no baggage, just a briefcase. How long would you say it would take to get through the airport and to the Skyliner?

Also, I'll be leaving at 5:10 PM on an international flight (JinAir). Again, no luggage, only briefcase. How long would you think it will take to get through the airport?

This will all be on a weekday.

I need to be over in Ikebukuro for about an hour to drop off some paperwork at our office there and I'm hoping to do it in one day. It's about an hour train ride from NRT to the station I need to get to, and an hour back. Our office is less than a 5 minute walk from the station. I lived in Japan for years, so I'm not concerned about getting around, I'm only concerned about whether I can make my flight back with the narrow window.

Thanks for any help!

Moving up several grades after earning degree?

I am likely going OCONUS GS 12. My wife would like to get a job on base while there, but she is currently only qualified for GS 4 positions (based on what is available there). While there, she will be working on her education and when finished will qualify for GS 13 positions.

If she takes a GS 4 position will she be able to move to a GS 13 position after graduation or will she be bound by time in grade?

Thanks!

Plastic covering for shower tile floor

So my wife decided that we need to have plastic covering our shower tile floor because cleaning the grout is a lot of work (she cleans a lot, I get it, it is a lot of work).

I am looking for ideas.

My idea is clear self adhesive contact paper, but I need it to be nonslip and I can't find that. I thought about buying the regular kind and a nonslip mat, but I worry that a nonslip mat will not be secure on contact paper.

The area I need to cover is 30" x 62", a bit more on any side is fine.

Any ideas or thoughts?

OCONUS official passport

Last time I went OCONUS I went as a contractor and then when I switched to GS I got my official passport right there on base.

This time I will hire in as a new/returning (LONG absence) GS for an OCONUS position.

Do I have to do the official passport in the states before PCSing (I read it can take several weeks) or can I travel on my tourist passport (South Korea)?

Quarterly Estimated Tax Filings and Extensions

As a small business owner I was required to make quarterly estimated tax payments during the year. Instead I waited and filed an extension before the April 15th tax deadline, then filed and paid my taxes by the October 15th deadline.

I am assuming that this means I answer the SF 85 question about taxes (24.3) that I both failed to file and pay taxes as required by law, correct?

If I am a Government Service employee working OCONUS (South Korea) and I also work on the side, can I claim my side income using the FEIE based on Physical Presence?

Confused about clearance requirement

In the past I worked a similar job and it required a security clearance (I was in Japan at the time, this job is in Korea). Looking at the job announcement it appears that there is no security clearance requirement.

Does this mean I won't need to do a SF 86 for the position along with the extensive investigation or is it possibly incorrect?

I would think, considering I would be working on base with access to medical records, that a clearance would be required as it was in the past.

Accidentally told my wife she was wrong...

I am not into fitness at all.

My wife is very into fitness but her fitness routines come basically from Vietnamese Facebook video influencers and her own mind.

She was telling me that she was doing exercises to make her thighs less muscular and I said that didn't make sense since exercising muscles makes them bigger.

She said there are definitely exercises to reduce muscle in the thighs and has tasked me with finding out what exercises she can do to make her legs slimmer because she feels they are getting too big. I tried searching, but all I can find are ones that make them bigger.

She is extremely fit, generally a 6 pack of abs depending on what she eats during the week (sometimes an 8 pack if she avoids her favorite foods), carries very little body fat, but she wants her legs (primarily thighs) to get slimmer and is convinced that there is an exercise that will make them slimmer.

My only thought is that exercising any muscle makes it bigger. I have no idea if this is true, but it makes sense to me.

She prefers to do body weight exercises and uses a small kettle bell (maybe 5 pounds) and a couple of small dumb bells (about 2 pounds each) along with foam pads for stepping/kneeling/sitting on (hard foam).

Please, help me out, are there exercises she can do to reduce muscle mass in the thighs?

I would DEARLY love to be wrong so I can report that yes, I was wrong, and here are the exercises.

Turn off Airstep KAT EX when turning off amp?

Is there a setting somewhere where I can have the Airstep KAT EX automatically shut off if I shut off the amp (Katana 50 Gen3)?

It would be nice to save the battery power when I forget.

Why are most flights through Istanbul from Detroit to Hanoi?

We go to Vietnam a lot to spend time with family. In the past we generally went through Japan or South Korea. Now, the majority of 1 stop flights to Hanoi go through Istanbul.

Does anyone know why?

Low profile pots/knobs?

I bought an Ibanez RGAT62-SBF Standard, I really like it, but the front pot interferes with my picking. I'm considering just deleting it (unscrew it, tape it inside the cavity at max), but I figured I'd check if anyone knew of very low profile pots/knobs?
