I don't know if I am allowed to post this here, but I could find a lot of posts on TikTok asking if there are any ThaiBL fans or vava in their country.

I haven't found anyone from Iceland yet and I am kind of on a quest to find at least one person that can relate. Not for meeting or anything, but it just feels a bit lonely seeing all the posts where all Thai BL fans should post their flag and I scroll through all the comments and never see mine.

Do any of you relate to this? Feeling alone as a fan of something that is just not popular in your country?

I'm moving to Iceland and before I do my boyfriend will stay over for a couple of days. As I am moving to Iceland for uni naturally I don't have money left for activities.

I was just wondering if there are cheaper places to visit.

I don't expect a big, once in a lifetime journey. I know everything is expensive, you don't have to tell me.

But the bay at laugarnes, where you can take beautiful pictures and the art museum close to it with the cool scrap built statues for example are free. I am looking for those kind of places. Nothing big or breathtaking, just beautiful places one could visit for a bit. :)

Ich bräuchte mal eure Hilfe.

Ich komme aus Deutschland von einer deutschen Hochschule und mache meinen Master auf Island.

Für die ganzen zwei Jahre und ich muss mich deswegen auch ummelden und bin während der Zeit nicht bei einer deutschen Hochschule immatrikuliert.

Ich würde Auslandsbafög bekommen, aber wie in Deutschland auch ist selbst der Höchstsatz viel zu wenig.

Ich habe keinen hohen „Lifestyle“ Anspruch und bin schon immer arm gewesen, deswegen ist auf Geld aufpassen und versuchen Geld zu sparen absolut nichts Neues für mich. Der Bafög Satz für Island ist allerdings 1.351 Euro, so wie ich das bisher mitbekommen habe. Genaueres bin ich gerade dabei mit dem Amt zu klären, aber so um diesen Betrag wird sich das wohl drehen.

Mein Studentenwohnheimszimmer (10,5 qm Zimmer zumindest mit eigenem Bad und nur einem Mitbewohni) kostet 1.000 Euro im Monat. Das ist für Reykjavik wenig.

Ich muss mir eine private Krankenversicherung zu der isländischen dazu holen, weil die so viel Zusatzkosten hat und ich so oft Medikamente brauche und Fachärzt*innen, dass es viel günstiger ist sich zusätzlich zu versichern.

Natürlich muss ich dann ja für die grundversicherung trotzdem zahlen.

Erasmus fällt raus, weil die kein Auslandsstudium fördern, was über ein Jahr geht. Sowohl private als auch Bildungskredite verlangen einen festen Wohnsitz in Deutschland. Hier den ersten Wohnsitz zu behalten und Island als Zweitwohnsitz anzumelden ist nicht möglich.

Es ist eine Kunsthochschule und die haben die letzte Runde erst Anfang April gehabt und ich musste mich zwei Wochen später entscheiden ob ich gehe oder nicht.

Da war nichts mit ein halbes Jahr vorher bewerben für ein Stipendium für ein Studium für das ich keine Bestätigung hatte und was auch ziemlich unwahrscheinlich war dort reinzukommen.

Ich bin ziemlich gut darin Bewerbungen zu schreiben, wo ein Kunstportfolio wichtig ist, aber meine Bewerbungen für Studijobs und Stipendien sind ein absolutes Desaster.

Mai ab und werde nach meinen Rechnungen eine 1,x haben falls nicht irgendwas richtig hart schief läuft.

Mein Vater hat Migrationsgeschichte wenn auch europäische und ich bin behindert und arm. Ehrenamtlich habe ich nicht super viel vorzuweisen, aber zumindest Pfadfinder und früher war ich eine ganze Zeit lang Vorstand eines größeren Kreisverbandes einer politischen Partei. Eigentlich habe ich mir ganz gute Chancen ausgerechnet, aber es hat bisher nie geklappt.

Habt ihr Tipps wie ihr Stipendien bekommen habt?

TL;DR: Auslandsbafög reicht nicht für mein Studium, deswegen suche ich Tipps zum bewerben für Stipendien. Ich habe mir eigentlich gute Chancen ausgerechnet, aber bisher hat es nie geklappt.

EDIT 1: Habe vergessen zu erwähnen, dass ich wegen meiner Behinderung Schwierigkeiten habe einen Job zu halten und die Uni sogar allen stark abgeraten hat während der Uni einen Job zu machen, weil es ein Vollzeitstudium ist. In Deutschland wäre das eine absolut unvorstellbare Aussage, aber eigentlich hat sie recht.

I’m moving to Reykjavik for two years.

I have a student housing offer so that is covered at least, but it had to be in miðbær, because I can’t drive. I have a disability so it would be hard for me anyway, but in Germany in bigger cities you often don’t learn it anymore because the license and car are so expensive and you can’t park anywhere anyway.

I have around 201k ISK a month from Germanys international study fund (at least for the first year). The housing is 163k a month. Probably like 28k 772.

So I have around 9.300 left for everything else. I know that’s not enough so I will probably have to work, but I want to work the least amount of hours possible because I’m autistic with adhd and can’t really work outside of Uni. Uni is intense enough for me and as it’s an art school, I will probably need to make some art outside of my typical uni stuff just so I can make the most out of being in the Icelandic art scene and having something to show for when I want to start working. Theatre and Performance art rarely gets paid though if you organize it yourself and if it does, then not enough for the hours you put in.

So.. long story short: I’m looking for budget tips for everyday stuff in Iceland. So not tourism, more like groceries, haha.

So far I have: eat meals with my family when I can (plus side is also that I like them), eat in the school cafeteria, go to bonús instead of krónar and look for discounts there. Buy stuff second hand if I really need them at that big warehouse second hand store or second hand online.

Does anyone have recommendations for a chill job in Iceland. I was thinking about something like working at the cinema or the sund. I can speak basic everyday Icelandic so I can handle easy customer interactions although hotel, supermarket and restaurant would be too overstimulating for me.

TL;DR: I need budget tips for everyday things in Reykjavik and tips where to look for a job that’s suitable for someone with autism/adhd and can be reached by bus.

Edit 1: I can’t apply for any government money in Iceland, because that would be taken by my government. I will apply for scholarships..
