After my review of Tome of Corruption last week, I've been musing more on the Warhammer Chaos Gods. See the link above for my rather heretical thoughts on the suitability and unsuitability of the Chaos Powers for WFRP!
I return to WFRP 2nd Edition with my latest review, looking at the Chaos sourcebook for that edition. Tome of Corruption is an impressively huge volume that includes not just material on mutations, Chaos careers, Chaos spells, Beastmen, daemons and other Chaos beasties - but also a guide to Norsca and information on Witch Hunters and other foes of Chaos.
Can it live up to the amazing standard set by the Realm of Chaos books of 1988 & 1990? Read my review (linked above) to see what I think.

Inside the Macharian Adversary Guide, you’ll find dossiers on the Macharian Sector’s most prominent threats, complete with matching stat-blocks.
After you put 8 advances in career skills during character creation, do those count as having advances in them for the purposes of how much further advances cost in XP? Ie if I put a single advance in 8 different skills, do those 8 skills now cost 75 xp to advance again? Or are those initial advances not counted, and further advances start at 50 xp each?
Supplementary question: do those 8 starting advances count towards ticking boxes for career advancement? It feels like they shouldn’t (just because that would mean you’re already 80% of the way towards being able to move into the next career level).

I'm probably missing something obvious, but why would you want to spend Fortune to gain Advantage on a roll? (WFRP 5e, p133)
It seems to me that your probability of success would be identical to just rolling the test twice, which is what a reroll gives you - but you might just succeed on your first roll and not need to spend Fortune.
What am I missing?

Cubicle 7 have repeatedly stressed that this is backwards compatible with 4th edition books.

Having another go at DOS2 after an abortive run that I abandoned after finishing Act 1 several years ago.
Are there any obvious problems with the folkowing party?

I'm only intending to play on regular difficulty, so the party doesn't need to be super-optimised, but at the same time I'm not an expert player or anything.
I was wondering about trying to fit Hydro in somewhere for a bit of healing, but not sure if that is necessary.

I take a look at the brand new sourcebook for WFRP, a guide to the worst place in the Empire. (See the link above)
I know initial opinions on this book seem to have been pretty negative, and it is certainly disappointing that it doesn't include new careers or rules for playing as a Sylvanian character. (For what its worth, my guess is that this is because Cubicle 7 aren't ready to publish career stuff before 5th Edition is released.)
But what is here is excellent in my opinion: if you liked the Glorious Reikland chapter in the 4e rulebook, or the guide to Nordland in the Salzenmund book, then this is more of the same.

Just published my latest WFRP review, of the Warhammer Companion, a "Grimoire of Arcane Knowledge” for 1st Edition. This could be regarded as the prototype for the magazine-style format that the Archives of the Empire series later followed.
