Tell me about the first rep you ever purchased! 🐣

Whether it was a yellow app special, picked up from canal street, thrift store find, or a high-tier from a trusted seller... I want to hear about your very first rep.

  • What was it?
  • Why did you choose it?
  • Did you obsessively research it, or it just happened?
  • Were you happy with it?
  • Do you still own it?

Bonus points if you have photos! I'd love to see where everyone's rep journey started, even if you didn't realize it was starting at that time.

My rep journey started with a garage sale St3ve Madd3n find... For $10 I got a purse I lovingly dubbed my "popcorn purse" because I only owned mini purses at the time, but this one fit movie snacks. I've done some looking and cannot for the life of me find an auth that has a black center zip-around compartment with florals inside, so I'm convinced it's a low-tier fantasy piece 😂 I got into the repladies world years later when I was searching for handbag reviews of (auth) Lady Ds as I debated spending $6000 and ended up running into an OGRepLadies post reviewing one! I realized reps had come a lot further than I thought, and now come in much higher quality materials than I thought, and I've been here since. I still have my popcorn purse though 🥰

A rep you own that you thought you'd get a lot of use out of... but it just sits in the closet?

I'll go first. Mine is the LV Speedy Dark 30.

I was convinced it was going to become one of my most-used bags because I don't own any other bag in that size. I loved it in photos, spent way too much time researching it, finally bought it... and now it mostly just sits in my closet.

Turns out I don't own any bags in that size because I don't like that size 🤡 I just don't carry around much stuff day-to-day. Worse, it doesn't fit my laptop so I can't use it as a work purse, and it's a little too small to fit my needs as an airplane carry-on. It's still finding its place for me.

What's the rep you thought would become a staple but ended up collecting dust instead?

Was it:

  • Not as practical as you expected?
  • Harder to style?
  • Too heavy?
  • Something else?

"Fashion is self-expression." "Objects carry memories." I'm curious: what does your collection mean to you?

For a long time, I didn't care much about fashion. I didn't have high confidence and wore oversized clothes because I wanted to hide. As my confidence grew. I started taking better care of myself, lost weight, and realized I didn't want to hide anymore. Instead, I wanted to figure out what my style was. Fashion became a way to express myself.

Reps unexpectedly became a part of that journey. Having easier access to pieces I'd admired for years made the process of self-discovery and revamping a wardrobe so much more approachable. I could try different silhouettes, colors, and brands with ease.

My collection now is a mix of auth and rep, and I love them for different reasons.

My authentic bags are the sentimental ones. They remind me of family members who gifted them to me, milestones I've celebrated, or trips where I bought them. Some are unique designs that were never repped (or would be incredibly difficult to replicate), while others are classics from a time when many luxury brands were producing noticeably higher-quality products.

My reps serve a different purpose. They give me the freedom to wear styles I've wanted for years without feeling like I have to baby them. They've helped fill the gaps in my wardrobe, experiment with new aesthetics, and ultimately become more confident in my own style.

So while my auths represent memories, my reps represent exploration and discovery. What does your collection mean to you? Or any item from your collection you want to highlight?

500 members. Thank you.

In just two weeks, we've grown to 500 members. Thank you to everyone who's joined.

It's honestly been really encouraging to see how many people were looking for a space that values thoughtful contributions to a community that's given us so much. Whether you've written a guide, shared a review, asked or answered a question, chatted with us in the daily thread, or you've just been lurking and learning, you're helping build the kind of community I hoped this would become.

I've said it before, but I really do believe education is the best way to avoid scams, make better purchasing decisions, and make this hobby better as a whole.

One thing I really want to emphasize, though, is that you do not have to be an expert to contribute here. I'm certainly not an expert. Very few of us are.

I don't think a single guide I've posted is complete or comprehensive, and they never will be. Factories change, batches change, different people have different experiences, and I'm human. I could spend another 20 hours researching a topic and still miss something. I also have a life outside of this little corner of the internet, so I do what I can when I can because I think it's worth it.

The reason to post is because you took some time to learn something, and you want to share what you learned because it might help someone else. Then someone adds to it. Someone points out something you missed. Someone has a different experience. We all end up knowing a little more than we did before.

That's the kind of community I want this to be.

The barrier to entry here isn't expertise. It's effort. If you're willing to do a little research, ask thoughtful questions, and contribute something back when you can, you'll fit right in.

I'm excited to keep reading your reviews, guides, comparisons, memes, questions, and random discussions. I've already learned a lot from the contributions people have made here. If this is what the first 500 members look like, I'm excited to see where we go from here.

Rep scientists and rep learners alike... what rabbit hole are you falling down? What do you wish there was a guide on?

hi im zen and i like overanalyzing tiny details ("hi zen")

I have my own backlog of topics that interest me, but I'm curious for everyone else:

  • What are you currently researching?
  • What's something you've always wanted to understand better?
  • Is there a guide you've searched for but couldn't find?
  • What's a topic you think is confusing or poorly explained?
  • If you were to create a guide based on your expertise/experience/interests, what would it be about?

Interested in connecting with other people that like making (or have an interest in making) guides, and maybe we can collaborate. Or if not then maybe I can stalk your post history to learn from you lol.

Also interested in hearing what topics are of interest to the community, but no one has taken them on... maybe I (or someone else here) will!

The hardest part of reps is uncertainty. Instead of asking us (biased), you're better off researching independently, using your best judgement, and accepting some risk by trying it out. Just don't spend more than you're willing to lose.

One of the hardest things to accept when you're new to reps is that there are no guarantees, just likelihoods based on prior experiences. And even those experiences can be unreliable. So, what do you do? Who do you trust?

What I personally don't recommend is asking the community, "Who's the best seller/factory?" or DMing someone for theirs. I think that puts you in a worse position than doing your own research.

You do it for reassurance, but you're not sampling the community's experiences. You're sampling the subset of people motivated to answer your question, which introduces all kinds of biases:

  • People who receive incentives from a seller.
  • People who've only ever used one seller, maybe long ago.
  • People parroting recommendations they've seen elsewhere.
  • Sellers posing as ordinary users.
  • People with completely different priorities than you.

Using the search bar to find reviews that existed before you asked are generally more valuable. Those people were documenting their experience rather than responding specifically to influence your purchase.

My approach is simple. Start with the bag you want, search for reviews, see which sellers come up repeatedly, and research those sellers. Eliminate anyone with a consistent pattern of serious complaints, especially bait-and-switch reports or repeated dishonesty. Look for patterns and whether the seller offered resolution.

I actually trust a seller LESS if I don't find any negative reviews or only find overwhelmingly positive AI-sounding reviews, because I'd be suspicious that seller is sponsoring positive reviews, or even that subs are suppressing negative reviews. I WANT to see a mixed bag, because the odds of honesty are higher.

Once you've gathered enough information, make a decision based on your own risk tolerance. And then... just place an order. Try it out. Eventually you have to trust your due diligence.

Don't spend more than you're willing to lose on this hobby. There are no chargebacks or protections. You can do everything "right" and still have your package seized, lost, or delayed. Your seller could disappear tomorrow. The batch could be bad. That's the risk we accept in an unregulated market.

The goal is to make the best decision you can with the information you have, accept that there are no guarantees, and be okay with the outcome.

If you're waiting until you get the "best" seller with a 1:1 rep, you're going to be scammed, disappointed, or waiting forever.

My husband calls it hyperfixation. Real ones know I'm just a dedicated rep scientist 😤🔬

I've spent an embarrassing amount of time turning this hobby into a research project and collecting rep differentiators from across the internet. My post history is slowly turning into a rep encyclopedia and I have a backlog of topics I want to dive into 😂

PSA: If you're worried about color accuracy, ask your seller for photos in different lighting (especially natural light)

When buying a light-colored bag for which it can be hard to convey the true color in photos (but honestly, for any bag), if you're concerned about color accuracy, ask your seller for multiple photos or videos in different lighting.

In picture 1 is my rep Xiao C Small Beige C25 in different lighting conditions. If I told you photos 4 and 5b were two different bags, you'd probably believe me. They were actually taken just minutes apart while I was running around my home turning lights on and off like a mad woman.

It's not my first time posting this tip, but I wanted to add a second slide to show you the brand's website and auth images can also be unreliable in assessing the true color of a bag. In picture 2 are a couple photos taken from the brand's website for the beige bag, plus one photo from a resale website. Can the real C25 beige shade please stand up? What does this bag even look like??

My point is that indoor lighting and editing can make a bag look warmer, cooler, more yellow, more gray, or completely change the saturation. If you're concerned about the PSPs, request natural light photos/videos!
