Welll... since the last like THREE times worked out so well when I needed odd job help here...

I'm just moved into my new home in Pennsport, near Herman's Coffee.

I haves of clothing - literally JUST clothing - piled up to the ceiling of my living room, and need it ALL moved up to the third floor. There are two tightly winding stair sets of about ten stairs each going up and down.

And during the move I partially put my back out. So that's SUPER COOL.

The clothes are either bagged up in garbage bags, or loosely tossed in piles while on hangers, and then there are about 15 of those collapsable IKEA shipping boxes full which can be broken up into IKEA style bags and carried up.

This is not a *hard* job, carrying the things isn't going to be especially *heavy*, but going up and down the stairs is going to be decently physical and boring as hell.

Primarily everything can be moved into a giant set of piles upstairs; there will be one or two crates that need to go in a specific place which we can deal with when you're here.

I need someone who is willing to move their ass and get it done, full stop.

I'm paying $20 an hour cash, and I estimate it will take 2-3 hours depending on how fast you work, and if you get the job done in ANY time frame up to 3 hours, I will pay you $75 cash.

As the title suggests: have moved out of an apartment, need it cleaned top to bottom. Apartment is empty excepting small pile of broken down shelving parts in corner which are going out in trash Friday night. No window cleaning needed.

Focus on bathroom, kitchen and vacuuming. Kitchen is small/open concept attached to small living room.

Entire apartment is very small, less than 500 sq feet.

Must be able to bring your own cleaning supplies! I can provide vacuum, but plus if you can bring your own because mine isn't great.

Moving OUT of apartment at intersection of Pine and Juniper.

Have: roughly ten medium sized boxes that are HEAVY, and five crates of records. And two tall "Billy" IKEA shelves (the actual heavy shelf parts are out) and one slim shelf of same height, one chair, to move out. This includes moving down about 20 steps from 2nd to 1st floor.

ALSO HAVE: roughly 10 IKEA folding "crates" full of clothes at CubeSmart at 841 S. Columbus BLVD. I can have ALL of this waiting at the loading dock to be loaded up, no need to go up and down etc...

Moving TO: a house near Herman's Coffee on Moyamensing. Only about five steps up to the door.

You must be able to lift the heavy stuff, at least onto a Dolly for the stairs. If you can do the boxes I can do the records and I can help with the shelves. The Amazon crates can be tossed and dragged and thrown.

The full amount of driving involved is 4 miles at most back and forth.

I anticipate the entire process to take FOUR HOURS at most. If it takes less, I will still pay you $200 cash.

I have used two local moving services in the last 10 years that were allegedly reputable and that quoted me a price based on photos I provided of my home and then charged me more than twice that when we were done.

This what I can afford right now.

I’d really appreciate some perspective on whether I handled this situation appropriately, particularly from Black people.

For context, I’m a white-presenting, white/Hispanic queer trans person in my mid-40s. I’m about six feet tall and 200 pounds. My sister, who is close to my age, is Black. I mention that only because she and I have talked quite a bit over the years about race, privilege, intervention, and situations like this. I do not believe that having a Black sister gives me any claim whatsoever to Black identity, culture, or experience.

Today, while I was walking, I came across a Black man and woman arguing outside their row home. The woman was screaming at him to leave her alone and, specifically, not to touch her.

That immediately concerned me. When someone is yelling “don’t touch me,” I’m not comfortable simply assuming everything is fine.

I stopped at a distance and asked her, “Are you okay?”

She said no.

I asked, “Do you want me to stay here with you?”

She said yes.

The man immediately turned his anger toward me. He said she was his wife and that I had no business involving myself in his business. I told him, calmly, that as long as she was asking me to stay, I was going to remain there.

He then hit me, hard, in the chest.

I was aware when I stopped that intervening in a volatile situation could redirect somebody’s aggression toward me, so I wasn’t entirely surprised. I am also considerably taller and larger than he was. At that point I raised my voice, changed my posture, and told him that putting his hands on me was a very bad decision and that doing it again was going to end badly. I also told him that I had no desire to involve the police and strongly encouraged him not to put me in a position where I felt I had to.

He turned and went toward the house. She followed him, and I watched him forcefully shove her backward out of the doorway so that he could slam the door.

I asked her again whether she wanted me to stay.

Again, she said yes.

He came back outside furious that she had involved “this white man” in their problems. He then accused me of seeing him as nothing more than a racial slur that I’m obviously not going to repeat here.

I responded, roughly, “Friend, I understand why your mind might go there, but please don’t make this about that. If that were how I thought about you, why would I be standing here trying to protect her?”

He began advancing toward me again.

By this point, several people nearby were watching from a distance. I started calling out loudly that there was a woman being hurt and that if anyone in the neighborhood was going to step forward and help, this was the time to do it.

Only one man, from quite a distance away, started slowly walking toward us while the husband continued screaming at and physically intimidating his wife.

Eventually, a neighbor came outside and asked me to back off because she had a baby inside and didn’t want “a domestic” happening outside her home.

I told her I was sorry the situation was happening there, but that I wasn’t comfortable leaving while this woman was directly asking me to stay.

At that point, the woman I had stopped to help looked embarrassed and terrified. She told me she had already called the police and said it was okay for me to leave.

I wasn’t entirely convinced that she had actually called them. My impression was that she may have been overwhelmed by the attention from the neighbors and wanted the situation to stop escalating publicly. But that was my impression, and ultimately she is an adult with agency. It wasn’t my place to overrule her.

So I told her okay. I also apologized if anything I had done had made the situation more volatile, and I left.

I’ve spent several hours thinking about it since.

My sister and I have talked about situations like this many times. Her position has generally been that if my being perceived as white, male, physically large, etc. gives me some measure of safety or social power that another person doesn’t have in a particular moment, I should be willing to use that advantage to help someone who is vulnerable.

That idea has influenced me a lot.

I’m fairly effeminate, and I’ve stepped into uncomfortable situations involving women and aggressive or creepy men before, usually in much lower-stakes ways. For example, I’ve approached a woman being harassed at a bar with something like, “Oh my God, Kelly! I haven’t seen you forever!” and then sat beside her as though we knew each other, giving her an easy way out of the interaction.

I’ve also passed couples arguing in public before and simply asked the woman, “Hey sis, do you need help?” Every previous time, she has said no, and I’ve immediately continued walking.

Sometimes I’ve felt that even having another person stop and notice what was happening seemed to lower the temperature a little.

I don’t do this because I want to be anyone’s savior.

I do it because I’ve been attacked myself more than once in my life, and I know exactly what it feels like to have other people see something happening and decide it isn’t their problem. I have a very hard time being that person when someone directly tells me they need help.

But race obviously changes the dynamics of what happened today.

My sister has talked with me about the complicated and sometimes conflicting pressures she has experienced around protecting other Black people from unnecessary police involvement, keeping private matters within a community, not wanting outsiders (particularly white ou) tsidersto impose themselves, while also recognizing that silence can leave vulnerable people without help. I know her experience isn’t universal, and I don’t want to turn any of that into a sweeping statement about Black people.

That’s why I’m asking here.

Did I handle this appropriately?

More specifically: once this woman told me she was not okay and explicitly asked me to stay, was remaining there the right thing to do? Was there a point where, as a white-presenting stranger, I should have disengaged sooner? Should I have handled the racial aspect of the confrontation differently? And if I encounter something similar again, what would you want someone in my position to understand?

I am genuinely not looking for a pat on the back, a trophy, or reassurance that I’m one of the “good white people.”

If the answer is that I overstepped, I want to hear that.

If the answer is that intervening was right but the way I did it could have been better, I want to hear that too.

I also understand that Black people are not a monolith and that I’m likely to get different answers from different people.

I’m just trying to make better choices if I ever find myself in this situation again.

LOCATION: PA

After months of issues with my landlord I finally got a legal referral from the PA Bar Association. I contacted a lawyer through this referral, met with him on Friday afternoon, and decided to retain him to be my lawyer until such time as my dispute is settled.

There have already been red flags and now I'm kind of freaking out.

On the one hand, he *was* referred by the bar. He has been licensed in PA since 2015, appears in records as official counsel and has enough of an online presence to obviously be a real lawyer.

On the other hand:

* We met at a co-working office space, the kind anyone can rent by the day or month; despite him having two other official work addresses listed on his website.

* He seems to be a one-man operation.

* When he sent me the email with the retainer agreement and the payment link, he didn't seem to know how to embed that link and attached two HTML files and a paypal graphic; I was able to retrieve the link from the HTML manually and make the $1500 payment.

*The retainer is somewhat boilerplate and doesn't actually have either of our signatures on it, it just spells out his obligations upon payment.

Friday night I sent him all the relevant documents and evidence pertaining to my situation. He is aware that as of the 10th I became officially late in paying my rent (which I am withholding for legal reasons relating to my dispute.) On Saturday it seemed like my paypal payment had not gone through, and I contacted him via text and email asking him to confirm so I could correct the issue - and I have not heard back since.

I was able to correct the payment and it HAS been successfully sent, but now it is nearly close of business on Monday and he has not returned my calls, texts or emails. I have asked him to call me immediately and he has not.

I'm in a panic. I feel like at the very minimum it is deeply unprofessional to not send a brief reply acknowledging receipt of payment and requested documents, and to let me know he's contacted my landlord to let him know he is representing me.

I'm in a panic. I'm worried I've somehow been scammed. I don't know what to do. What do I do now?

It would take a novel to explain the entire situation, but the short version is this:

I'm a 47-year-old queer, disabled, trans/nonbinary tenant in Philadelphia. For the past three months, I've been dealing with an ongoing dispute involving a new neighbor's excessive noise. Over time, the situation has escalated to the point where my landlord has begun refusing to address unrelated maintenance and quality-of-life issues and has sent multiple hostile emails telling me to break my lease and move out.

I've consulted with an attorney through Legal Clinic for the Disabled. Unfortunately, like many legal aid organizations, they can provide guidance and education about my rights, but they do not provide ongoing representation for this type of affirmative action against a landlord. TURN, Community Legal Services, and similar resources have not been able to assist with what I specifically need.

At this point, I am not looking for advice about my rights, strategy, documentation, noise complaints, police reports, Fair Housing complaints, L&I, or anything else related to the merits of the case. I have spent months researching and working with legal professionals, and I feel well-informed on those issues.

What I need is very specific: a lawyer or legal professional who would be willing to act as an intermediary between me and my landlord's attorney for the remainder of this situation. The goal is not necessarily full-scale litigation, but having someone with legal authority involved who can communicate on my behalf and ensure that my concerns are taken seriously.

The challenge is financial. I live well below the poverty line and cannot afford standard attorney rates. I can contribute something toward the cost, but my resources are extremely limited.

If anyone knows of an attorney, legal professional, organization, or program that might be willing to work with someone in my circumstances, I would be very grateful for a recommendation.

I swear I'm not being snarky... it's just I always thought a deep part of the Katya lore was that the very notion of eating food disgusted her. Now suddenly it's jokes about Taco Bell and Hagen Daas and FatBoys and I feel like I have whiplash.

I realize quite a lot of buyers do not like the direct listing function, and I understand why.

From a seller's point of view... as a reseller ThredUp has more or less been where I've dumped all of my inventory that I can't turn over after around six months. It's been a profitable way to break even on investments that were low risk financailly.

That being said what I've noticed is that ThredUp manages to sell things for 3-4X what I've had them sitting listed for on Poshmark/Mercari for half a year, so when they announced Direct Listing I was super hyped.

I didn't even realized I was approved for Beta. I'd applied, and no one contacted me, so I discovered it accidentally when I logged in a few days ago.

I thought I'd start out by listing 20 or so of my highest value designer items, and that's where I ran into my first hurdle... they do not allow sellers to list what they consider higher end brands. An easy example would be Burberry. The irony is that this is super randomly decided upon - I was able to list a $500 Cult Gaia handbag without issue.

The next annoyance is the absolute nighmarish process of copying listings over from Poshmark. I have thousands of items already listed there, and in order to copy them over I have to enter the direct link using the ThredUp *app* - which I have before now never EVER used (strictly web based) - and then let Thredup import the details.

It then FORCES you to use their background removal feature, which almost never generates a good result.

But the HUGE and most pressing issue? I can't seem to complete a sale.

When people send me an offer, using the app to try and counter...the app crashes when I hit the "counter" button. I brought this up with support. No help.

When people send me an offer and I accept?? It goes into a mode that says "Offer accepted, pending purchase" with a 24 hour countdown. In the meantime OTHER OFFERS CONTINUE TO COME IN ON THE ITEM. I brought *THIS* up with support, and they said they couldn't see any record of a sale on their end - like, what the actual eff?

Now I do understand Beta *means Beta* but holy HELL, this is a bumpy start.

Decent amount of cosmetic wear and tear, but most notably, the charging port needs to be repaired. Does not include charger (you can get one on Amazon cheaply.)

Retail is $800-1000 depending where you shop; they sell it refurbished for $400. The parts alone sell on ebay for more than what I'm asking, if I were to break it up and sell them, which would annoy the crap out of me so I'd rather not.

It will need to be refinished/restained if you want it restored. Also one of the decorative sections has broken off/apart, and will need repair.

I know you must get these posts all day long and I swear, I did search through for info, but I am a better learner when I have the chance to ask directly and interact so please forgive if this seems annoying.

I have an older model Ungai scooter that I have used for 4ish years to get EVERYWHERE. It has been good to me, but for the last year or so I have had to put the charger into it just-right to get it to charge up.

That finally went kaput two days ago. I bought a replacement charging cable just in case, but the problem remains.

I suspect that the pin(s) inside are bent. It seemed like maybe the middle one was - I would LOVE to look at a picture of a healthy/undamaged port but it seems like Google can give me a thousand photos of the end of an actual cable, but no close-ups of a port *in the scooter.*

I can ill afford to buy a replacement scooter; is it worth taking it to a local e-bike repair shop to see if this ca be rectified affordably?

Caveat: I cannot transfer the ticket to you, so you'll need to meet me and my friends at the theater at 6:30 which is when we plan to arrive. We will need to trade #'s to text in case of traffic/delay, so if that makes you uncomfortable - respect, but it won't work out.

Not 100 on if you can sit anywhere or if you'll be sitting with us, but you'd be sitting with strangers anyway so at least you can vet us beforehand to see how strange we are.

The Citizen's Bank app has an option in it to turn off the requirement for 2FA, and I have it OFF.

Despite this, EVERY TIME I try to log into the app OR via the web to check my balance, I have to receive a confirmation code, and I almost always have to do the phone call option because the text messages don't come through.

I've only been a client for a week and I'm ready to change banks again because of this. Is it just me?

RESOLVED - I found someone!

Looking for someone with the capability to convert two VHS home video tapes to digital.

I found a service in Morton, PA that does it for $20 per tape and includes the flash drive, with a 2 day turnaround time but I would have to take the train out to Morton twice...

Willing to pay that amount to anyone with the setup to do it in the downtown/South/West Philly area. Please know I am trusting you with the ONLY copies of two tapes that are 40 years old, so this is a very precious situation.
