strongest silk I've ever felt

I'm on holiday in Melbourne for the next few weeks and I really want to see some local snakes like a copperhead or a RBB. Are they out and about this time of year?

I got up at dawn and headed to a nearby lake to try and catch a snake or two warming up in the sun, but I didn't find anything. Am I looking in the right sort of habitat? I'm mostly scanning sunny but sheltered areas where the brush meets rocks and areas more exposed to sunlight (pics attached).

Any advice is appreciated.
