Teddy has been diagnosed with possible Stage 3. Need food/hydration advice😕. (More info in body below)
Teddy is 15 yrs old.
Blind.
He has been taking blood pressure meds for 6 months.
Always been slender but hoping he doesn’t lose weight beyond this.
He will also be seen tomorrow for the blood pressure test and tomorrow will start taking low dose thyroid meds,
A month of antibiotics for UTI
Appetite stimulant and anti nausea meds.
I assume renal wet food is necessary but doctor said fed is best and admitted many cats hate the healthy foods. My questions are about best ways to get everything stabilized.
We have a month to give it our all and then we re-test his kidneys and thyroid and check for if UTI is gone.
. So my question are
- what foods or snacks did you choose?
- Is it hard to give subcutaneous fluids? We have not been directed to do that quite yet. We are trying to keep him hydrated but may need to ask to do this soon.
- .
3)So I hope to entice him with as much safe tasty snacks because he often wants those a lot. Any tips?
- tips for keeping him hydrated without subcutaneous fluid treatment?
I should add he did like Tiki Cats broth topper packs but recently vomited it and now doesn’t want it.
I do add water and or cat safe chicken broth to his wet food and he liked it.
But if I add too much water he throws up.
He is also less hungry and thirsty these past 2 days.
He starts meds tomorrow finally though.
He is definitely more dehydrated today and yesterday. His anti constipation meds called lactulose isn’t working and neither is MiraLAX. Doctor said to double the dose for all of it.
But he needs more fluids for this to work right?
