Question about PPD I’ve had while watching the MA V Lindsay Clancy trial.

I’m not a mother so the world of PPD is a foreign to me, but I really feel for mothers who struggle. It sounds horrific to be trying to juggle with so much scrutiny and pressure to feel you must reach out, but also that doing so might risk people branding you unfit. Just awful.

My question, arising from testimony of the drs in this trial, is general for any mums who have been there, or any experts in this field— do drs ever prescribe hormonal treatments for this? All I’ve heard this trial is a billion drug names, no mention of hormonal treatments, but surely hormones play a role? Did no one help Lindsay in that way because it’s just not a pathway used? Or is it, but they failed her specifically by not prescribing it?

Happy for them, sad for us

Yesterday I had lunch with 2 friends, who were discussing holidays with their folks as adults.

One was describing two trips with her dad, and the other how her parents were coming to visit from her home country (we’re all immigrants to the place we live) and how they were doing a little trip to Europe.

It made my heart ache. My parents have only visited once since I emigrated 4 years ago— to go on a road trip with my brother which I planned for all of us and then got left out of. When I explained that it hurt me to be left out, my mother said “look, people don’t like you because you’re too much, you’re too sensitive, you make a big deal out of things”.

My husband is also currently planning a father son road trip with his dad, which was my idea.

I am genuinely thrilled for my friends & husband that they have parents who are now more like adult friends but I was also sad for me who never will.

I’m sure many of you can relate. 💙

Sink material question

This is such a random question — please tell me if there is a better place to ask. Can anyone tell me what a SMC Synthetic Resin (Sheet Moulding Compound reinforced with glass fibres) sink is like, from a tactile perspective? More plastic feeling? or more like ceramic? TIA.

Expectations not met, but were they too high? Seeking a second opinion on work.

Kitchen redo expectations- unrealistic?

Hi experts! I’ve never had a kitchen redo (or even owned a kitchen) before but recently after saving up had a guy in to remove the old Benchtop and put in a new one…. And I don’t like the finish.

He said the “messiness” was due to the original job being bad, the wall being “uneven” and him having to “do his best”, and that this was “normal” but I know so little about what should be done that I don’t know if / how to challenge that.

Can anyone tell me if gaps like this are really the best job I can expect, or has he been sloppy? I was surprised there are such big gaps, that there was no siliconing and that the cut around the round edge sink was just square? He says for the gaps to just install beading (he suggested DIY)

Am I just being fussy? Thanks for your insight. :)

Is Jagger worse than Rexford?

I know Mitch and Cam can be hypocrites, but saying “This boy, Jagger— because that’s a name now” (Mitch, S8E12) and then calling your kid “Rexford” is wild, right? In your opinion, which name is worse?

Question for professionals: re: fringe

Hello, I have a fringe that’s a kind of blunt / curtain hybrid. It’s great. The middle section is across, then it kind of feathers longer and longer toward the edges.

However, over the months, it feels (and looks) like the middle / across section has narrowed, less hair is in it, and more hair is in the longer sections.

What used to become longer only toward the outer edges of my eyes is now over them, and only an inch or so between the eyes is blunter. I’d like to widen the middle section but keep the gradient either side.

Does this description and request make sense / clearly communicate my desire? Any way I can better explain it?

Dear Gen Z, reject AI.

Hi Gen Z,

Please reject (at least generative) AI. Not only is it rubbish for the planet and human creativity, it is going to make working and earning so much harder for you now.

You deserve to create real things that will endure, not be forced into career paths that are “AI-proof” just to ensure you can pay rent.

Keep booing those who tell you it’s the future. It’s YOUR future and no robot should rob you of it.

Love, a Gen X-er

Breadcrumbing is boring

I’m VLC. Mother only reaches out to breadcrumb every couple of months. If I reply, she then leaves the chat, because she has what she needs, the “thrill of the catch”. No matter what I used to say back — she wouldn’t continue to engage. Before I learned to see it, I would actually divulge— and then be hurt.

Now, it doesn’t upset me, because I know what’s going on and it’s… just pathetic? But it’s still boring.

So, I’ve started to make it more fun for me by sending back (if I reply at all, that is) the most inane, unrelated text I can. Like, yesterday, she tried to bait me with a long text about how much she loves my NC siblings. I replied “grey here today”. another time she went on dismissing my disease & I replied “bought bananas”.

I’ve found this even more satisfying than not replying because she can never say I don’t answer, but she also gets zero ammunition from it. I just know it drives her crazy.

Anyhow, they think they’re so smart and manipulative, it’s nice to know what they’re doing and to out-play them for your own small amusement.
