Looking for folk or indie songs that are nature-themed, talking about the Earth or anything related, like the weather, natural disasters, diseases, animals, life itself, and especially the beauty of it all!

I enjoy making themed playlists and this is the newest one I’m working on. You can also include songs about humanity or truer hippie themes like fighting the system, anti-war, etc, but those songs will be fewer in the playlist and come towards the end.

Here’s a sample of some of the songs I’ve gathered so far:

- Earth by Sleeping At Last
- First Light by Hozier
- Orchard by the Honey Trees
- To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra
- End of August by Noah Kahan
- Eden’s House by Milky Chance
- Keep the Wolves Away by Uncle Lucius
- Watching You Breathe by Jacoo (not sure if this fits the nature theme exactly, but I love it so much!)
- No One to Kill in the Sky by Seb Lowe (potential addition; might sound too harsh though, will probably drop or add to the end which will cover difficult human topics)

Also, it’ll be a high quality playlist on Qobuz, so anything that you think will sound good in lossless/CD/HQ quality will work! Doesn’t have to only be folk or indie. Just keep it mellow :)
ALso (#2) any language is welcome!

Thanks!

Does anyone have any experience cooking over a campfire?

I’m interested in trying to work with Wachuma myself, but I hear the smell is bad so I can’t do it at home bc roommates. I’d probably try boiling it down over a campfire or a portable propane stove someplace south of nowhere.

Thanks!

I am so tired of driving this big ass van (BAV for short)

I love the convenience of having a home on wheels, especially the sink, but man do I miss my Prius!

Lmao is that crazy?

I’ve been doing this for about 3 months now, and unfortunately I’m on the East Coast rather than where I’d like to be, out in the west. But since I’m taking the time to be honest with myself, I didn’t choose to travel in the summer. My plan was to take my maiden voyage in the winter, spend some time enjoying my beloved desert wilderness (in the winter), then briefly* *visit family out east for like a week. But the schedule got pushed back into late spring and then my family kept me out here in this damned humid heat for 5 weeks! Now I’m left searching desperately for affordable places to stay bc they love prosecuting people for being homeless out here. On top of that, every campground I’ve been able to find is in a forest where there isn’t enough sunlight to charge my solar and there’s barely any cell service to do real work. So I’m left chasing the sun, stressing like crazy over my battery usage, sweating at night bc it’s humid as hell and I’m afraid to run the fan all night and waste my battery, and also the east has these crazy stupid bugs that like to fly at your face and into your eyeballs and ears for some damn reason. So I can’t even enjoy the outdoors without smothering myself in sticky bug spray and swatting every few minutes.

I would love to move, to head back west, to find a cool place in the mountains, etc, but I simply can’t yet. For personal reasons, I now have to stay in this godforsaken place for another month. And it sucks.

What sucks the most is driving this Big ass van (BAV for short). I hate moving to another site because I have to worry about driving through steep hills, winding roads, sharp turns, city rush hour, people who tailgate you or brake suddenly in front of you. Plus gas is fucking expensive right now —STILL— so I’m trying to drive as little as possible. When I’m driving, it’s impossible to relax. I get so tense and my dog doesn’t like it, either. I never used to worry in my Prius. I love being so high up in the van, but the blind spots suck and the top-heaviness sucks and the weight sucks and the assholes on the road suck and it all just fucking sucks.

I feel crazy saying this, but I miss the inconveniences of living in my Prius (RIP Lite Blu). It was small and I could only cary 5 gallons of water at a time, but it was fast and reliable, even when weighed down by all my camping bs. I miss crawling into the back where I built my platform bed. I miss having to get out of the vehicle every time I had to access a storage compartment. I miss having to use my tiny camping stove, on a picnic table outside. I miss having to buy ice for my ice chest every 3 days. I miss owning a car instead of a camper, bc at least my car could park anywhere and still be just a car.

I guess I’m just venting at this point. If anyone was wondering what driving a BAV is like, and living in it for months at a time on the east coast, now you have my anecdote. I’m sure I could change my situation somehow, and I will eventually, but right now it sucks.

Does anyone feel the same?

Or better yet, does anyone feel the exact opposite? Please, if you do, tell me your story so I can learn! I don’t want to be miserable anymore 😮‍💨

Question regarding the transmission issues in the 2020+ 10-speeds

I bought a used 2020 250 AWD, but I’m not sure if it has the same transmission with the known failures since it’s AWD. Is there a way to tell which transmission I have? And are there any warning signs of failure? Thanks!

I just started a 100gb roam subscription, and brought my own kit from Home Depot, but was charged a “$16 monthly hardware installment fee” on my first invoice. What does that mean?

Will I be charged an extra $16 every month to use hardware I already own? Or was it a mistake and I need to talk to someone? Thanks!

UPDATE: Someone reached out on reddit and confirmed it was a mistake. They asked for my account number to help resolve the issue, but I haven’t heard from them since. I’ll wait another day then contact them via the website, but at least they confirmed it!

Which type tends to look too fleshy when they wear puffy, frilly, romantic-esque clothes?

I might just be self conscious, but when I wear “soft” clothes I tend to look bigger/fleshier than I am. I think I might be a soft type but I can’t stand puffy/frilly clothes because they make me look fat. Because of this, I tend to avoid these outfits but it’s making it difficult for me to pin down my type.

Is there a kibbe type that fits this description?

Thanks!

I’m trying to understand an awakening experience I had in terms of non-duality. Any insight is welcome!

I call it an awakening, but if I’m being honest, I might’ve been dissociating.

I was able to step outside of my current identity and examine myself and my life from an outsider’s perspective. I stopped being “me” (ie this ego that’s currently typing) and essentially I became someone else. I didn’t want to give myself a name, it felt wrong, but I identified with the part of reality that ties everything within reality together. I wanted to return to that so I could experience how everything was interconnected, but I felt trapped in this human body. Limited, even. Everything I knew about reality was only known to this new identity because that body had acquired the knowledge via the ego. This new identity was also afraid to move or do anything except stare at all the forest around the campsite, because it knew that moving would make this body’s ego return. It knew that this body needed the ego in order to interact naturally with the environment, especially with other people. It was also avoidant of technology. Fortunately, I had absolutely zero cell service at the campsite, but I was nervous to go back into my camper. I knew that interacting with technology would draw “me” back in, and the relative peace that I had found would end.

What I find extremely interesting was how dualistic the experience was. The entire time I was in this state, this new, nameless identity was analyzing the natural behaviors the body had, like a scientist. I felt “my” body like I was a ghost possessing it. I could feel its anxiety in a way I (me, this ego) have never felt it before. The automatic way it twitched when a fly landed on it or when a butterfly passed was fascinating. I also did yoga as an experiment, and I could feel the tension and weakness in my body in ways I (me, this ego) have never noticed before. It was a truly dualistic experience, which confuses me because I (me, this ego) am non-dualistic.

Here’s some interesting history about myself: I used to be a radical materialist non-dualist, and now I’m an idealist. Of course, before all that I was Christian and believed in souls and spirits, but I never actually understood what that meant. I’ve since come to understand dualism (with souls and spirits) through a somewhat scientific lens, so I’m wondering if this impacted my experience. I’m a trained cognitive scientist, of sorts, but my training was through the materialist perspective. I’m certain that this alternate identity I adapted was using some of the methods I’d learned in uni to analyse the dualistic experience. Maybe that’s why it felt dualistic? I think I might’ve actually dissociated and maybe even created an alternate persona, but I’m not sure if I’m biased due to my training or if it was actually an awakening. But if it was, why wasn’t it non-dualistic? Why did I feel so disconnected from everything? I believe it was a powerful meditative state, a moment of mindfulness where only the present felt real while the past felt false, but I’m also certain a psychiatrist would call this dissociation.

I don’t know what to think, but I do know that it resonates with Patanjali’s definition of yoga to some extent. I had a copy of the Yoga Sutras (Barbara Stoler Miller) on hand and read the introduction later that day, after my ego had inevitably begun to return. I realized that I’d experienced something very similar to “cessation of thought” and “higher dispassion” as described in the Yoga Sutras. But I also realized that Patanjali’s yoga is also somewhat dualistic. At least, according to Barbara Stoler Miller’s translation. I could be wrong.

Anyway, does anyone know what happened, or have you had a similar experience? I now know how to turn this state on and off at will (I realized that I used to do this often as a child) but if I have some kind of psychological condition then I’d rather avoid doing it.

Thanks!

Are these magnolias? Can I make tea from the blossoms?

SOLVED

Went camping this past week and found what I believed to be magnolia trees in the Blue Valley Experimental Forest of southern North Carolina, at the edge of the Nantahala National Forest and the border of Georgia. Also part of Appalachia. I didn’t have a signal or I would’ve looked it up and used an app. But I remembered you could make tea with (I might’ve remembered incorrectly) the buds, so I grabbed a few and brought them home.

Now I have no idea what these are and the pictures of local magnolias I’ve found online don’t match up. And I somehow forgot to take a better picture of the flowers while I was there. So what are these, and can I make tea with the buds? Thanks!

2020 AWD 250 - Does anyone have some advice for fixing the sliding door latch? I think it’s jammed. There’s also a piece of plastic sticking out.

Is it possible to become an independent archaeologist (armchair-esque) without being attached to an institute?

I’m in a bit of a tough position in my life, and I keep finding it more and more difficult to pursue a PhD in archaeology. Not only because my country (USA) wants nothing to do with archaeology, let alone academia or its own history, but because of numerous life crises that keep holding me back.

In between these persistent catastrophes, I’ve found myself with ample time to research my interests. I’d like to join the academic community somehow in an official manner, but I’m limited due to these crises that emerge every so often throughout the year, pulling me away for weeks at a time. I have a MSc in archaeology from Oxford and I also receive funding that allows me to live independently without needing to be tied down to any particular job or career. I’m in a very fortunate position, considering my extremely humble upbringing, but I still lack guidance. I’m not sure how feasible my goal is.

TLDR:

Is it possible to do research without being affiliated with an institute or organization? I’ve never heard of anyone who’s done this before, so I thought I’d consult the internet.
If you’ve known of people who are able to publish their research without being an affiliate, how do they get access to paywall-blocked publications? Have they had any difficulties getting their work peer-reviewed or submitting them to journals?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help :)

Edit to add: I’m also an RPA and am currently an employed CRM archaeologist. I’m also considering life as a shovel bum. I’ve tried the common route, so please don’t recommend CRM. I’ve discovered that I truly am more interested in conducting research. The only problem right now is how attainable this goal is. I realize it’s difficult for everyone who wants to enter academia, but the question still stands: is it possible for someone to become an independent armchair-esque archaeologist? Thanks!

Has anyone been able to replicate Daring chicken? Or find a similar substitute?

I am so grateful for Daring, as their fake chicken has filled a much-missed flavor and texture profile from my omnivore days! However I don’t have the means to always buy it, mainly because I’m poor and also because I spend a good deal of my time traveling.

Has anyone been able to replicate the taste and texture of Daring brand chicken?

I haven’t been able to get my hands on ‘chicken of the woods’ mushrooms yet but if you think they’re similar (or another mushroom blend), please let me know!

Thanks, I truly appreciate the help <3

Looking for tricksters who tell stories

I know of Anansi, but I was certain I’d read somewhere that Coyote and HuehueCoyotl told stories as well. I just can’t seem to find the source.

If I was mistaken about Coyote, do you know of any other tricksters who collect or share stories?

Also, if you have a source about Coyote and HuehueCoyotl, I’d be grateful!

Thanks!

I had a fairly light dose and it made the contrast between black and white stand out and even seem magical. The shadows were so black they felt like portals to another world, while the white was so bright it was ethereal.

I had a low dose of shrooms the other day, and suddenly it got overcast and everything outside seemed to drain of color. It was all a muted, gray pastel color. Anyway, I wondered how that might look with mescaline, given my experience. Would everything turn monochromatic? Black and white? Instead of just muted gray.

Thought I’d ask for some online anecdotes! Thanks in advance :)
