Genuine question. I replied to a meme today and was told I'm living in a dream world. Another person asked why I'm here if I think the world is a better place, as if being CF requires believing humanity is doomed.

I'll let you decide whether I'm living in a dream world.

Things have never been better than in 2026. Human achievements in the last 200 years have drastically improved quality of life.

Maternal and infant mortality, Homicides per capita, Vaccination, Disease eradication, Medical research, Life expectancy, Space exploration, Satellite technology, Communication, Internet access, Mobile connectivity, Artificial intelligence, Computing, Digitalization, Free online education, Renewable energy, Nuclear energy, Battery technology, Carbon emissions per capita, Ozone layer recovery, Water management, Desalination, Agricultural productivity, Food security, Natural disaster prediction, Emergency response, Infrastructure, Transportation, Crime prevention, Forensics, Cybersecurity, Extreme poverty, Population growth, Women's rights, Women's education, Democracy, Scientific literacy, Critical thinking, Access to information, Religious extremism, Social accountability, War casualties per capita, Epidemic preparedness, Gene editing.

And I expect most of these trends to continue.

And this isn't me saying everything is perfect. It obviously isn't. But humanity has repeatedly demonstrated that problems can be solved.

The world of 2026 has problems, but compared with the world our ancestors lived in, we have extraordinary healthcare, technology, safety, knowledge, communication, education and material abundance.

They won’t go through the countless famines humanity has experienced. Just look at the pictures from the Bengal Famine. Are we going through anything like that today?

They won’t go through another plague or Spanish Flu that kills a huge portion of the population.

They won’t experience World War I or II, where millions died, or wiped out by a nuclear attack.

They probably won’t suffer from smallpox or polio. One of my relatives lost their eyesight to smallpox because vaccines weren’t available in India back then.

My maternal grandfather died alone at home, and we still don’t know why. Maybe if he had access to a mobile phone, he could have reached out for help.

They probably won’t be killed in a village simply because they couldn’t give birth to a male child, while the family, village and community hide the incident to protect their “izzat.”

They probably won’t be killed by Jack the Ripper, a serial killer who was never caught.

and so on….

So I don't understand the assumption that being childfree requires believing the future will be terrible.

I'm CF because I don't want children. I don't need to believe humanity is doomed to justify that decision.

In fact, I think there's a reasonable chance that someone born today will live in a world substantially better than the one we live in now.

I use reddit app on two android devices. There is no notifications sync. I need to manually clear notifications on the second device. Second device notifications should clear on it's own when I open the notification on the first device.

Here’s the current topology:

Main Router (Living Room): 

• Handles DHCP and VLANs.
• Client isolation enabled for IoT and Guest networks.
• Running the AX standard with 40MHz channel width for 5GHz and 20MHz for 2.4GHz.
• Main SSID uses the same name and password on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

APs (Room A, Room C, Room Study):

• Each has its unique hostname and IP. 
• DHCP is off, wlan interfaces deleted, and firewall, dnsmasq, and odhcpd services disabled.
• They point back to the main router IP for Gateway. 
• 802.11r (Fast Transition) set up with matching Mobility Domain and unique NAS IDs.
• IoT/Guest SSIDs and VLAN partitioning are strictly limited to the main router only.
• Main SSID replicated with the same configuration and password.
• Trusted devices connect via AP ethernet ports, no AP-level VLANs needed.

With all SSIDs on non-overlapping channels, the setup is stable and performs well, reaching a solid 200 Mb/s apartment-wide with signal strengths between -36 and -90 dBM. Any other suggestions to polish this?

I genuinely don't understand how dog owners are okay with letting their dogs jump all over the couch and bed. Dogs don't wipe after they poop, so wouldn't there be at least some fecal matter left on their bare butts? Do dog owners actually wipe their dogs butts every single time they poop? If not, how does that not gross them out? All I can think about is bacteria, fecal residue, dirt, and odors. I seriously don't get how people are comfortable with that.

They shipped it on July 16, 2026. The courier company (Trackon) says the product was delivered yesterday, but I have not received it.

I have communicated with the seller, and they insist the product was delivered. I informed them that I have not received it, and they said they would check with the courier company.

It might be a mistake on the courier company's end, but I suggest waiting until I receive my product. It may or may not be a scam, but I suggest being cautious.

I want to share an idea that's helped me a lot over the last few years.

Life is like a machine. The more moving parts it has, the more chances something will break. A simple machine is usually more reliable because there's less that can fail.

I think the same applies to life. The more commitments, possessions, responsibilities, and other complexities we add, the more things there are to worry about and maintain.

I've found that simplifying my life has brought me a lot more peace. Fewer moving parts, fewer problems.

Hi,

I've been receiving many calls in the last month from multiple banks regarding offers on my bank account or credit card. All the calls are from the 1600 number series.

I think they are using this loophole to circumvent DND because the TRAI mandated that 1600 calls cannot be blocked by any spam blocker. Is any body else facing the same?
