Moved to Germany with a B1 Certificate and still so nervous in everyday situations.

I moved to Germany about 3 weeks ago with a B1 Certificate. I received almost perfect score in my Prüfung and ngl I'm really proud of myself. I can watch shows, I listen to podcasts and i'd say my textbook German is good. My Aussprache is also really good.

My problem is, I really cannot speak when I am at a supermarket, I get really nervous, all these articles jump in my head and I am really afraid of sounding wrong. I also have this issue of not being able to understand what the other person is saying and I reply w ,,Ich spreche Englisch" and this has been such a big let down for me.

I just wanna know from people, who have been in the same place, how did you overcome this?

How I went from A0 to B1 using Nicos Weg and other free resources.

I always wanted to make this post. I have just received my B1 Zertifikat and here are the results. For starters, I only self studied and I wanted to get a B1 Zertifikat before I step foot in Germany. I only used free resouces and I did not spend a single dime except for the books.

Schriftliche Prüfung -> 217,5/225 Punkte

  • Leseverstehen -> 70,0/75 Punkte
  • Hörverstehen -> 30,0/35 Punkte
  • Sprachbausteine -> 72,5/75 Punkte
  • Schriftlicher Ausdrück -> 45,0/45 Punkte

Mündliche Prüfung -> 73,0/75 Punkte

  • Kontaktaufnahme -> 73,0/75 Punkte
  • Gespräch über ein Thema -> 15,0/15 Punkte
  • Gemeinsam eine Aufgabe lösen 30,0/30 Punkte

Summe -> 290,5/300 Punkte

Ergebnis -> Sehr gut

1. Nicos Weg

This was the building block of everything. I did the course from A1 to B1 and I really enjoyed it. I got the suggestion from this subreddit. I also did the corresponding Anki cards. This really helped me strenghtened my vocabulary. This course really made me fall in love with the language.

Nicos Weg A1

2. Anki Cards

I did the corresponding cards for all the three courses. This was really helpful learning the nouns with the articles. Anki can be stressful but trust me, you have to do it everyday. Build a habit and it may seem overwhelming but with time, it is all manageable. I also tried a 5000 Word Anki Deck and it was also really really helpful.

Nicos Weg A1 Anki

Nicos Weg A2 Anki

Nicos Weg B1 Anki

German Anki Deck (5,000 Words Sorted by Frequency)

3. 14Minuten Podcast

Now this podcast was really good after I became somwhat well versed with the language. This is aimed at B1/B2 learners but it is so good. Each episode lasts 14 Minutes and comes with a transcript, which is really helpful.

  1. GERMANstudio.ling.academy

Now, I stumbled upon this free community by accident. It is a free Skool community led by an austrian linguist. There is daily content to engage with and weekly live sessions are held where learners can communicate with each other. If you are a total beginner, then that's totally cool, you do not have to speak. This helped me so much with my speaking. Until I joined this community, I was only good at grammar but after joining this community, I learned how to talk. This is not a promotion at all btw.

GERMANstudio.ling.academy

There were only 2 books that I used. Grammatik Aktiv and Mit Erfolg zu Telc B1. The books costed money though. If anyone needs any help. Please write a comment or send me a DM.

Vielen Dank liebe Leute.

My cousin is consistently high (>300) and has vertigo.

My cousin (19F) has T1D since she was 10. We are from India and I'll be really honest, no one really has any knowledge whatsoever about how to manage diabetes. We also live in a very small town and there are no endocrinologists here to consult.

5 days ago, she fell down and had somewhat of a seizure, she bit her tongue and it bled. We went to the ER, they administered IV, they found she has Ketones. After the treatment, the Ketones came out to be negative but since then she's been having Vertigo. She says she feels like the room is spinning but she's feeling much better than before. Her Sugar is also like consistently high even after eating small portions. I have ordered a CGM for her, even though it's really expensive but will probably help her manage and see what is causing these highs. She only takes strips and having a CGM is tbh out of the budget.

My question is, can anyone tell me why she's having Vertigo? She has had high blood sugar in the past as well but never felt like this. I am just confused and need some clarity, I know going to the doctor is the best option and we will definitely be visiting an Endo in the nearby city soon.

She takes NovoRapid and Lantus SoloStar.

I received a defamation threat from a well known Doctor.

So I made a post about against a well known Doctor (I named them in the post) on reddit. Received support from a lot of people but I also received a DM from a newly made account, threatening me with a defamation case.

The post contained only facts and my opinion on the distasteful bedside manner of the doctor. I did not use abusive language at all. I called her rude and condescending. I was obviously really angry.

This doctor is the head of a department in one of India's biggest hospital. I didn't take down the post but I am still kind of concerned.

Is an 8th Gen Kindle still good in 2026?

Basically I'm getting this device for free from my brother. I could buy a new one but it costs around 17000 Indian Rupee. I have a lot of books in my Kindle Library and reading them on my phone strains my eyes. I would love to know your opinions. Thanks a lot.

Question: I have a PS5 digital edition that I wanna sell. How much should I sell it for?

Title. I have a digital edition PS5. It's barely used. Bought it originally to play GTA 6 but I am moving to Germany. I won't have time to play the game and it'd be a hassle for me to take it w me to another country. As for GTA 6, I am just not feeling it anymore, I have been really busy with other stuff and would like to sell it.

Question: How much should I sell it for? I have 40K in mind.

Difference between Intended Travel of Date and Incoming Insurance

I'm sitting at the VFS right now. All my documents have been submitted except for the biometric. I checked my documents and found out that I had mistakenly put 22nd August as my intended travel date on CSP and my travel insurance starts from 24th September. I am really worried. I asked the VFS official, they said it won't matter as the intended date of travel is only tentative and the visa will be issued from the start of the insurance. I am still really worried though.

Anyone else who has been through the same thing?

My aunt has a 6 cm cyst in her brain and she's been having severe headaches for the past two years. We took an appointment for Neurosurgery at AIIMS Delhi and thereafter she was referred to Dr. Manjari Tripathi (head of neurology, AIIMS Delhi) by the neurosurgeon Dr. Deepak Aggrawal, even though he suggested surgery and also asked us to get a date for it.

Anyway the day of the appointment came and we went to see Dr. Manjari, I can't tell you in words you how rude and condescending this lady was. Doctors are supposed to be compassionate and caring but she was the exact opposite of that. She asked my aunt about her symptoms and when told her about it, Dr. Manjari kept constantly interrupting her and wouldn't even let her finish a sentence. She asked my aunt about the fits and epileptic episodes she experiences, my aunt replied that she doesn't experience any episode per say, to which Dr. Manjari said "jab kucch hai hi nahi toh ek kaam karo, treatment khatm kardo, hamara bhi 1 mareez kam ho jayega aur humein bhi Khushi hogi" like wtf? And when I told her that Dr. Deepak Aggrawal has suggested surgery, she said "inko surgery karwane ki bohot jaldi hai, inko private hospital bhejo kisi." Like this lady is putting words into my mouth.

Is that how doctors talk to their patients? I understand that Doctors are overworked and stressed but this was 10 AM in the morning, so I won't give her the benefit of the doubt. Patients come from far away to AIIMS in order to get treated and get clarity. They're already is distress and Doctors like Manjari Tripathi make it even worse.
