My first TikTok got 15k views. My second not even 100. What happened?

Hey! I'm working on the marketing of a small indie game studio.

Two weeks ago, I posted my first ever TikTok on a brand new account. It was a short, 30 second video, and it got 15k views, nearly 400 likes, 150 saves, and 75 new followers, all within 24 hours.

This weekend, I posted a longer video, but TikTok barely showed it to anyone. It painfully reached 100 views after 3 days, yet it still got 12 likes and brought me 4 new followers.

I know the algorithm works in batches (150 views, then 300, etc.), and if the performance is good, it keeps pushing the video. But this time, it didn't even seem to go through that initial testing phase.

I don't think the content itself is the issue. If the video had reached 300 views and only got 12 likes, I'd simply assume the format wasn't working and move on.

Instead, it feels like the algorithm never really gave it a chance, and I have no idea why.

For my first video, I was pretty active on the account beforehand, liking videos and leaving comments. Then I was inactive for about two weeks, before becoming active again when I posted the second video.

Could that be the reason? Could two weeks of inactivity on a new account make TikTok treat it differently, or even mistake it for a bot?

What marketing beats should I consider for a tiny game?

Hello hello, for a tiny game, would you recommend working on a demo before the full launch? I know it's mandatory these days but with a short game I was wondering if it's even worth it, especially in terms of production budget. My goal is not to raise more money, I have enough to dev a 2hours cozy job simulator game that could be ready by the end of the year. If you have any thoughts on the marketing beats I should consider...

What are your favorite resources on behavioral marketing and player psychology?

Hello! I'm looking for insights and resources (books, articles, videos, or talks) on behavioral marketing, consumer psychology, and audience preferences.

I'm currently defining the target audience for my game and would love to learn more about how different demographics engage with specific genres, themes, and features.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
