Yandex Go never refunds temporary authorization charges

I've had issues connecting my credit cards with Yandex Go in Kyrgyzstan. I really hated using cash for every ride here, and I wanted to use the e-scooters, so I got perhaps obsessive in trying to connect my credit cards.

I had 50-100 attempts across 6 different credit cards without success. Each time I was charged 11¢.

3 weeks later, that never refunded me. Yandex stole $5-10 from me in authorization attempts.

I feel like I'm being trolled. This is ridiculous.

It takes several minutes for me to go through the process for each 11¢ charge, so I'm not even going to try to get refunded this with my bank.

I netted $2600 with CSR this past year, and I won't continue.

Sorry $2300* I can't edit the title

(more than $2300 if you include the points and lounge benefits)

There were a few main factors to me netting so much this past year:

  1. Getting the annual fee in July, helped me maximize the bi-annual benefits without being hit with the annual fee.

  2. I took a gap year and I traveled Asia with it. Edits is actually worth using in Asia, since many options are less than $250/night. Every Edits benefit is actually worth $350 if you include the stipend.

So here's how it went:

Annual Fee: -$500

Travel credit: $300

Hotel credit: $1300 (Edits x 3 + IHG)

Concert credit: $450

OpenTable credit: $450

Using travel credit again before getting the annual fee refunded (I'm shocked that they let you do this): $300

Why am I downgrading? This won't be worth it if I continue after my gap year. I hate how points have gotten devalued and the annual fee has increased. There was so much micromanaging to max out the benefits, and I won't be using Edits at home where those hotels are a ripoff anyways. Also subtract the fact that I was able to use the bi-annual benefits 3 times & the travel credit twice.. I'd only be netting 300travel+300concert+300dining+250hotel-800fee=$⁶50. That's a lot of headache for $650, when I'm not really the mainstream concert or boojie dinner type anyways. Might as well get a credit card that has better points benefits.

So after 8 years I'm done. Bye, Chase.

Can I use my travel credit before downgrading? July 2026

The rules keep changing, and I haven't found a post about this that's less than 6 months old.

I've been a CSR member for 2 years, and I'm downgrading this year because I don't like what happened to the points & annual fee.

I just got my annual fee on July 1st. I quickly used the StubHub credit. I'm also waiting until my closing statement for the $300 travel credit. My credit is expected to appear on July 12, which means that I'll have 18 days to use it. But just in case it takes a while to appear on my account, I'll use it within the week that it posts. After it posts, I'll downgrade my card and get the annual fee refunded.

Does this sound safe?

Have there been any recent reports of clawbacks for StubHub or travel credit?

Has anyone here had longer than a 2 week delay, waiting for the travel credit to post?

Mashrutka scams in Osh

Everyone in the taxi mob at the old bus station, lied to me for 2hrs straight about the shared ride to Sary Mogul.

The shared taxi leaves at 2pm every day at the old bus station. My hostel reassures me this.

First they redirect me to a different bus station where a Mashrutka charges 1500 per head (3x the price). I have to walk 15 minutes with 25kgs of luggage, just to find they're overcharging me.

So I do some research online, to reassure myself that the hostel didn't get the original address wrong. I decline the overpriced ride, eat some food and walk back. This time just 20 minutes before it leaves.

They intentionally keep telling me that the ride is somewhere else. They're pointing me in the wrong direction for 25 minutes straight. Then after I've exhausted myself stressing to find the ride with 25kgs on my back, this person goes up to me and says "the ride left 5 minutes ago. You have to take a private ride" never been so angry. Outside of the mountains, Kyrgyzstan has become my least favorite country in Central Asia because of the Mashrutka scams.

Kyrgyzstan

Does anyone have experience with dating in Kyrgyzstan? I have a feeling that this isn't the kind of place for passport bros.. The thing is, I don't travel to be a passport bro. I travel to see the world, and I don't let dating dictate where I go. But naturally, I am kind of a passport bro because I try to get girls wherever I travel.

People told me that Kazakhstan would be difficult, but I was successful in 2/3 dates I had there.. maybe it was just luck.

Girls in Kyrgyzstan definitely like me, and I get a lot of matches on my dating apps, but I just get the feeling that they're not the type to hook up on the first date.

Anyways.. does anyone here have experience with Bishkek or anywhere else in Kyrgyzstan?

Yandex Kyrgyzstan isn't accepting any of my international cards

This wasn't an issue in Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan.

Oddly, the first taxi that I ordered was fine.

Then I rented a scooter, and the payment didn't work.

I tried removing and then re-adding both of my cards, and they all said " verification failed" despite passing 3DS authentication. I tried adding four more credit cards. Actually from five different banks total, and not a single one is working.

I spent a few hours trying literally everything. I have a Google pixel and an iPhone, so I tried them both. I changed the account phone number from my Uzbekistan number to my Kyrgyzstan number. Then I tried creating a second account.

I haven't read anything online about people having the same issue, and so I figured that I would post my experience on Reddit.

How to get 3DS enabled?

I'm in China, so I can only use Alipay and WeChat to pay for things. I've seen this issue with credit cards before.. and you get a standard error message with Visa if your card doesn't have 3DS enabled.

I'm trying to get the signup bonus with my new Bank of America Atmos business card. So I would really like to use it here. But it asks for 3DS every time I make a payment above ¥200 ($30).

No customer service agent has been able to enable 3DS. They say that it's already enabled, I know this isn't true.

I also haven't been able to set up Google pay here, not that it matters here but that's going to be a challenge when I go to my next country. okay, I just had to get directed to the correct supervisor, and I got Google pay enabled. Most agents didn't know what they were doing.

Customer support for Bank of America always seems so lost whenever I call them.

▲ 2 r/Bumble

Bumble keeps saying that I'm in Russia. Though my location is China and my Esim says that I'm in Singapore. So wtf should I do?

I haven't been able to use Bumble for days and it's driving me mad. I've tried a VPN, no luck. My hotel Wi-Fi requires 2FA with a local Chinese number, which I don't have. So I have to use my SIM card, and I have no idea why it recognizes me as Russia when my IP is actually Singapore. I've tried uninstalling the app, restarting my phone, etc. nothing works.

Merchant type for the points multiplier, are never correctly identified in China.

Granted, basically everything is paid for by WeChat and Alipay.

My hotel payment was recognized as "Miscellaneous and specialty retail"

My lunch at a quality restaurant, was categorized as "Political organizations"

Even Luckin Coffee straight through its app, was recognized as "Computer programming and design services"

I've been in China for a full week, and everything is only getting 1x multiplier.

and before anyone says "just pay with your card".. it's rare that anywhere accepts card outside of the major cities. I'm in Xinjiang, not Shanghai.

Dating App Robberies in Almaty. Was I almost robbed?

So I was reading recently.. that there's been a few reports of robberies through Bumble, Tinder, etc. when someone meets a girl at her apartment, she leaves and thieves replace her presence.

Did this almost happen to me? Or did I overthink it and pass up an intimate encounter unreasonably? Women do find me attractive and occasionally I do hook up through dating apps, it's just weird how eager she was to meet. She did say that she would meet in public, but she was only willing to meet at places near her apartment.
