Has anyone played Look Outside?

A fun little horror game on Steam about being trapped in an apartment building because something in the sky has driven everybody crazy and looking out the window will kill you. Some heavy Local 58 vibes with the evil moon!

Any good stores in Chicago for VHS/physical media?

I'm traveling to Chicago and I'm on the lookout for any good used records/games/movie stores that have VHS (or blurays or dvds for that matter).

Send me your recommendations! Thanks!

Does The Road take place in the 80s?

This isn't a very serious or consequential post but I re-read The Road recently and about halfway through it dawned on me that this book probably takes place in some alternate history 1980s time period.

Obviously they're just rummaging through wreckage the whole book but there's no mention or trace of any actual modern technology, and everything they do scavenge and use could all easily take place in the 80s or 90s at best. The cars, camping stoves, landline telephone, the can of soda, etc - there's no mention at all of any cellphones or modern electronics found among the rubble at all. It does lend a kind of timeless quality to it.

All of McCarthy's books are period pieces, even his most recent/"modern" books like No Country and The Passenger take place in the 80s, and since that seems to be the most recent decade he was willing to write about, I suddenly started imagining the events of The Road also taking place in the 80s.

Obviously it doesn’t change the impact or import of the story at all but it was a fun quirk to think about while reading it!
