Day 21 of asking for an overhaul to controller aiming. Any day now please.

I think there are really two levels to improving controller aim: a few relatively easy changes that could make a big difference, and a more involved overhaul of the aiming mechanics.

The easiest/most immediate fix would be aim assist. I don't think controller players should have to disable it entirely because the current implementation is so difficult to use that many of us have resorted to turning it off. That's basically a workaround, but it also puts controller players at a disadvantage against M&K.

Right now the combination is a very strong aim snap + extremely strong slowdown. The snap can work in theory, but it sometimes snaps next to the target rather than onto it, and it's so aggressive that it feels jarring. Then the slowdown is so strong that once you're near the target, you actually have to fight the controls to make micro-adjustments or move from body to head.

At minimum, I'd separate aim snap and aim slowdown and give each its own strength slider. That alone would let players find a balance that works for them. Ideally, though, I'd eventually like to see the aim assist move toward something more like rotational/magnetism-based assistance with minimal slowdown. The goal would be for the assist to help you initially get on target and stay with a moving target without taking control of the reticle.

Another relatively simple change would be separating horizontal and vertical sensitivity. Right now they're coupled, so increasing horizontal sensitivity automatically increases vertical. A lot of controller players prefer slightly lower vertical sensitivity than horizontal, especially in shooters.

For a more involved overhaul, I'd also love to see more control over the response curve. Having options such as Linear, Exponential, and Dynamic/reverse-S, rather than being limited to the current curve, would give players much more control over how the stick responds. Personally, Dynamic/reverse-S is my preference.

The close-range aiming is where all of this becomes particularly problematic in Active Matter. Medium and long-range aiming is generally manageable, although the excessive slowdown makes tracking something moving horizontally very difficult. But so many of the monsters here rush directly into your camera, move extremely quickly and unpredictably, and then juke laterally at the last second.

Flowermen are a good example. You can center your aim and track them while they're approaching, but once they get close they suddenly cut left or right. By the time you fight through the slowdown and get the reticle back onto them, they've already hit you or run past you. Distorted can be even more extreme because some of them will come straight at you and then suddenly shift/teleport a short distance sideways as you're trying to center your aim. I understand that movement is intentional game design to make them harder to hit, but combined with the current controller mechanics it can make those encounters feel more like you're fighting the controls than the enemy.

That's also why I think the issue is particularly noticeable in this game. It's not just that the aim assist needs work. The game has a lot of extremely fast, erratic enemies that attack at point-blank range, which really exposes the weaknesses in the current controller aiming. M&K doesn't have that aim-assist behavior to fight against, so players can make those tiny corrections much more precisely.

One other, lower-priority feature I'd eventually love is an option to control how ADS magnification interacts with your FOV. Essentially, allowing players to choose whether their ADS view uses a consistent zoom level or scales relative to their current FOV. I wouldn't consider this nearly as important as the other changes, though.

So if I had to prioritize it:

  1. Separate aim snap and slowdown + individual strength sliders

  2. Rework the aim assist toward more subtle rotational/magnetism assistance

  3. Separate horizontal and vertical sensitivity

  4. More response-curve options, particularly Dynamic/reverse-S

  5. ADS/FOV scaling options

I know that's a lot, but I'm not trying to nitpick or complain. I genuinely really enjoy the game, and that's why I'm taking the time to break this down. I've been playing shooters for about 25 years and generally feel very comfortable on controller, including holding my own against M&K players. I'm not expecting the game to make aiming easier for me. I just want the controller to feel precise and predictable.

Right now it feels like the aim assist is doing the opposite of what I think it should: it can snap aggressively onto the wrong spot and then slow the reticle down so much that correcting it becomes difficult. Even just separating those two systems and letting players tune them independently would be a huge step in the right direction.

Anyone else having this weird Google Messages contact photo issue on a Galaxy S25 Ultra?

I’m trying to figure out if I’m the only one dealing with this because it’s been driving me nuts for months.

I have a Galaxy S25 Ultra, and this never happened before I got the One UI 8.5 update about 5 months ago.

Basically, when I open Google Messages after it’s been sitting in the background for a while, all of the contact photos next to my conversations are initially missing. Then, about a second later, they all suddenly appear/load back in.

It’s not one particular contact. It happens with every conversation. The weird part is that if I switch away from Messages and come right back, the photos usually stay there. If I’ve been using other apps for a while and then come back to Messages, I’ll often see all the photos disappear for a second and then reload.

The actual contact photos are fine. Samsung Contacts and the Samsung Phone app show them normally.

I’ve tried a bunch of things:

- Cleared Google Messages cache

- Completely cleared Google Messages data

- Deleted all of my message threads and started over with only a couple conversations

- Cleared data/cache for various Samsung/Google Contacts components

- Cleared Google Play Services cache

- Removed my Theme Park customization to rule that out

- Tried the Google Messages beta and the current stable version

- Updated from One UI 8.5 to One UI 9

Nothing has fixed it. It happens on both the beta and stable versions of Messages, and it still happens on One UI 9.

I’ve also checked Developer Options and Google Messages is still running in the background, so it doesn’t seem like Android is simply killing the app.

At this point I’m wondering if this is some weird interaction between Google Messages and One UI, because the timing is too coincidental. But I’d really like to know if other people are seeing the same thing.

If you’re on a Galaxy S25 Ultra (or another Samsung phone) running One UI 8.5 or One UI 9, have you noticed your contact photos disappearing briefly and then loading back in when you reopen Messages?

And if you had this issue and actually found a fix, please let me know what worked. I’ve been chasing this for months and I’m running out of things to try.

Anyone else having major Remote Play stutters on the Xbox Ally X?

Hey everyone, I'm pulling my hair out with Xbox Remote Play on my new Xbox Ally X.

It's driving me crazy because my home network is rock solid. My Xbox is hardwired, I've tried forcing 5G wifi on the Ally X, and my local games run perfectly. But whenever I try to use Remote Play, the video freezes every few seconds to a minute or so for a couple of seconds, while the audio keeps playing like nothing is wrong.

I've already tried disabling hardware-accelerated GPU, disabling Anti-Lag, messing with VRR, and turning off all the power-saving junk, but nothing fixes it. Since everything else works great, I'm starting to think it's just a bad AMD driver build or a weird bug with the Xbox app on this hardware.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Did you find a fix, or did you just end up switching to a different streaming app? Any help would be appreciated!

Recently picked up an Ally X. What are you guys grabbing in the Steam Summer Sale?

I’ve had my Xbox Ally X for about 2 months now and have been loving it. I recently finished the Metro series, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and they all played great.

Since the Steam Summer Sale is officially live, I’m looking for my next handheld-friendly obsession. What are you guys playing right now that runs well on the Ally X and is currently at a deep discount? I’m open to any genre!

Anyone happen to have a spare back plate screw for the Xbox Ally X they could send me?

Stripped one of my back plate screws attempting a creak fix and just need a single M2 x 16mm replacement. I know these come in packs of 20 and I'd hate to buy a whole pack for one screw.

If anyone has one laying around from a previous mod or repair, I'd really appreciate it. Happy to cover shipping, it's small enough to drop in a regular envelope with a stamp. Drop a comment or DM me. Thanks in advance!

I recently picked up an Xbox Ally X. I know it has two fans and 2 vents. I only ever feel air coming out of the left side vent. Wondering if this is normal or if I possibly have a fan that is defective on the right side. Can anyone shed some light on this?
