What are your tips & trick for surviving the heat? Managing the sweat.

I am being serious when I say this. Seeing people from all over the world in UAE, I feel that we Indians sweat more. Especially, dark South Indians. I am one of them. Among dark South Indians, I sweat extra. My vest, shirt, pant & even underwear is soaking wet.

I think sweating is something Indian. Or maybe I have not seen other people too much.

I did even wear Nike dri-fit full sleeve tights instead of vest. I was hoping it will manage the sweat better and protect against sunburn. Frankly, I don't know if its helping or not.

So, I figured this is the right place to ask. I figure you have the same body issues like me and we are all facing the same weather.

Weekly once only I have to dress up formally, when I go to office. Rest, I am in the site. With formal dress, I just carry extra shirt & vest.

Since I bath daily twice normally and thrice during summer, I don't have stinking issues. Plus most of my cloths are 100% cotton.

Please share if you have suggestions for some better cloths.

How to get started with Yerbamate and how to brew & drink without gourd and bombilla?

Hi,

Long before I even knew about Yerbamate, I discovered bombilla and for me it was just a metal straw with a mesh filter. I actually used it to replace plastic straw and for drinking hot green tea, that I brewed from loose tea.

But it was cheap quality and started rusting soon. So, I believe that I have not found a good quality bombilla. Though it claims to be stainless steel, its rusting and I don't want to risk it.

So, I realize that gourd & bombilla are vital parts. But considering my situation. Please suggest a way around it.

Since it looks similiar to green tea for me. I brew my green tea in a mason jar. Then I use a metal strainer and take out the water. I repeat that step 3-4 times. Can I do something similiar? What is the ratio and temperature?

Or is it better to cold brew a decoction and dilute it?

I see everyone taking about the traditional method only. I am looking for hacks.

How to evaluate Fintech companies in UAE? How to ensure legal and good services?

I have 2 uses: Send money to my home (International) and pay some for cloud subscription in USD.

For International remittance, I use money exchange. Just this month, I used e&money for the first time. I liked the convenience, lower fees & better rate. I was surprised to get better rate with lower fees. At exchange house I pay AED 15.75 as fees.

For subscription, I pay using my credit card from a local bank. Currency conversion fee & other charges are a mystery. I have no alternative.

So, by fintech companies I am referring to the likes of e&money, remitly, payit.

What are the legal things I have ensure before using a service? Like their license from UAE Central Bank. I saw some complaints that the sender of the fund to the home bank account was someone else. I don't want to get into legal issues like money laundering. I don't want to ending up on CIA's list as a money laundering kingpin.

I am hoping that e&money is legit since they are part of Etisalat and their banking part is run by FAB. Hope that Etisalat & FAB will avoid scam dealings.

Remitly advertises a lot, but could not find any legal related things. Plus, I am not sure what to look for. How to ensure that the service is legit.

Then I saw Careem Pay that is strightforward about its fees at AED 5 at AED 1 = ₹25.77 but Aspora gives better rate (AED 1 = ₹25.78) but doesn't tell anything about its fees. But both services are using Lulu Exchange. But Lulu Exchange via Lulu app gives lower rate (AED 1 = ₹25.70) at zero fees. What is going on here? If my transaction has issues, can I approach Lulu to fix the issue?

Botim, based on using their ads filled app for VOIP, I am expecting some scam is their International remittance business. Comera seems to be an International remittance services with VOIP on the side. Its feels like its trying to be wechat of UAE. Not sure who is backing them and if they can deliver. I feel if Etisalat buys them, they can deliver.

Payit seems to be a big deal, but I don't understand what they are doing.

I don't even understand what is financehouse.ae, aafaq.ae & hundreds of services like that and what are they actually doing.

I want a credit card that has good security and maybe keep my fund in USD or whatever that will reduce the extra charges.

Basically, everybody is getting into the "fintech business". Based on my experience, I am sure that 90% are various degrees of scam.

But as a customer without much knowledge on how to spot scams, which of these services will help me.

[Hp smart tank 530] How to get to working without signing in the cloud?

Its been ages since I configured printers, so I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or its printer issue or HP issue.

I have a hp smart tank 530, I tried printing via android mobile app. It just keeps printing blank on a loop, until the paper is over and cancel the print. Same thing when I tried via macos.

Can I use this printer without depending on the cloud? I want to connect it to the Wifi and print via devices connected to the wifi network.

What is the difference between these to packs and what are the limitations?

I am confused about 2 packs that I saw on Jio prepaid mobile plan.

***₹***200 28Days 30GB Plus Youtube Premium & lots of OTTs - ***₹***7.14/day
***₹***219 30Days 30GB - ***₹***7.30/day

Before this, I was using ***₹***198 90Days 15GB. I only used 12GB. I have wifi at home & office.

1GB/day is total waste for me.

I don't understand the pricing scheme of Jio. Instead of giving me more data and clogging the network. Give me less GB, but ensure the speed is high. Some areas evening time, nothing loads.

I don't even know how to calculate the inflation. But I feel that using data is becoming a luxury now.

How to simplify timezones across the world?

This issue mainly effects in news website.

Today looking at a news website, I saw the article was posted at a time ending in "BST".

I usually select the time and right-click to "Search Google for" and then on the search page, add "to <my timezone>".

Is there a feature in Chrome to always insert the time corresponding to my time zone or is there an extension that does the same.

I even have the same issue with invites I get via my email (Gmail). I only see the corresponding time to my timezone when I add it in the calendar or do a google search like I mentioned before.

Is there any solution to my problem?

How to get started for a NAS? NAS 101.

Hi,

I currently have couple of 2.5'' HDD USB 2 External Hard Drive and a SanDisk 2TB Portable SSD. That is my current data store.

Its basically a collection of personal photos & home videos. Complete collection of sitcoms & cartoons. Videos ripped from VHS, CD & DVD. Lots of wallpapers. Music that I ripped from my cassette and CD collections. Then music collection since Napster days.

The fact of the matter is that, I am sure that there are many duplicates. Another kind of duplicate that I have is 320p & 720p+ version of the same video. Same things with music, same song in different bitrates.

My first objective is to get the whole thing in one place. Then, clear the duplicates.

Finally make a complete index of all the content, so I know what is where. Like a quick search.

Based on reading other post and googling around, I believe that I need to get an unraid NAS.

Ofcourse, money is limited. So I cannot straight away get an off the shelf NAS with 4bay or more.

So, I am building to it slowly. I nned to futureproof my current purchases.

I have borrowed from a friend, an old i7 PC with slots for 4 HDD and a 512 gb HD with higher RPM that I can use for loading an OS.

I am stuck at what HDD to get:

  1. What type of 3.5'' HDD to get? Since I am a home user and looking for extra long life. Should I got for Seagate IronWolf Pro, over IronWolf. Does a higher level guarantee better long life. Or should I look at HDD for CCTV, are they more durable?
  2. Which brand and what capacity is quality + economical? Like with Seagate IronWolf Pro, though they have capacity ranging from 32 TB to 2 TB. Couple of stores in my area only has 10 & 12 TB. Not sure if its because the retailer gets higher commission on those or those have proven to be more reliable than ones with higher capacity or any other reason.
  3. What data format to use for the HDD so that it can in the future be put in a proper NAS with RAID support?

Some other questions:

  1. What OS to use now? Should I start with FreeNAS or TrueNAS or some version of Linux or Windows 7. What would be helpful in first bringing all the files in once place and then clearing the duplicates? My tech skill is average, but I am curious and willing to learn more.
  2. Since my data is on 2.5'' HDD USB 2 External Hard Drive, I am sure it will a slow process in pulling all the data out. My initial plan was to break the external cover and connect it directly to the PC, but I found out that the HDD has a different connector and its not possible to connect it directly to the PC. Is that finding correct?
  3. Based on what I have learned, standalone NAS from UGreen, Synology, and QNAP are more energy efficient than a PC. But many complain about software limitations. Does any of there brands give me option to change the OS or are there brands that just sells the hardware?
  4. I see a video about making a NAS with SSD, it looks cool and can be even carried around when I travel on holiday. But I am of the understanding that 3.5 HDD is the best medium for long term storage. Am I correct?
  5. Ofcourse, doing all the research, I came across many great ideas like turning the NAS as a home based cloud and making it into a media centre. Also even hosting a home server, but I could not think of any use case for myself now. So, I feel that I have been too carried away. So, I need to focus. So, please advice me on what should I focus on first and move ahead.
  6. My primary computer is a Mac Mini now. But I don't want to be limited by any OS. I plan to get a laptop that runs on Linux. Plus my mobile is Android.

Thank you for reading my long post.

Access for bachelor's in Dubai beaches

I am looking for clarity of information. I have heard from friends that Dubai beaches have restrictions for bachelor (male). What are the facts?

I live in Ajman. My is work around the northern emirates and regularly go for a swim in the morning at sunrise.

Occasionally when I am in Dubai, I do the same. But its usually at the Mamzar beach before it was closed for renovation. I have not been to the new place yet.

Tomorrow, I have a meeting at 9 in Al Quoz. So, I would like to head for a swim. I will be alone. Where can I go? What are restrictions in place?

Please share the google locations of the spot I can go to.

Ages back, when I used to swimming in Jumeirah - it was the spot from where you can see the Burj Al Arab - https://maps.app.goo.gl/syT3xyg7kizKaTms6/.

Ofcourse, what are the extra restrictions due to the current situation? Are things actually over? Is it wise to be roaming in those areas now?

Couple of questions regarding Boox Go 6 as a new user

Hi,

I am a new user to Boox and there are somethings I don't fully understand. I am expecting a clone of my mobile's Android, but I see some differences.

  1. Why is there an option for "auto power off"? The default was 15 mins. What is the point of frequent power off? I usually restart my mobile every couple of days.
  2. What is "Freeze"?
  3. In the reader for page turning, the default is starting from the next line. But I would like to see the last line in the current page as the first line in the next page.
  4. Where is the "Boox Assistant" app?
  5. I want the device for just reading, can I remove all other apps so I can just focus on reading. I need dictionary app also to look up words while reading.
  6. Do I need to sign in to the play store? Is it essential to keep the OS updated?
  7. I see that many seem to use KOReader, do I need to remove neoreader first. I am not sure how the Library works. Is Library & reader the same app?
  8. How do I arrange all the ebooks? I used BooxDrop and put the ebook in the "Documents" folder.

Thank you.

Sharjah police changed their vehicle design, so i am not 100% sure its part of Sharjah Police.

The Sharjah Poilce's new design looks very similiar to the Royal family guard. I liked the old blue design.

But I did spot couple of times on Dhaid road near the Sharjah Airport, a vehicle that looks like G-Wagon's boxy design. I was driving, so I could not take a picture.

It could be Ineos Grenadier or K2's THEEB. I think, its not a Jetour.

Anybody spotted this one? Please share more details.
