The Affordable Route Down the Rabbit Hole

The Affordable Route Down the Rabbit Hole

I don’t think I can afford (or justify) buying all the originals these are inspired by, so I’m taking the considerably more affordable route instead. It also gives me a chance to enjoy the scents for what they are without worrying too much about how closely they replicate the originals.

Anyone else perfectly happy buying the inspired versions and simply enjoying them on their own, rather than eventually getting the originals?

Joining the bandwagon

Finally decided to see what the hype is about and picked up Poseidon and Morpheus.

I haven’t tried the originals they’re inspired by, so I can’t really say how close (or how different) they are. In a way, though, I think that’s a good thing. I get to experience and enjoy these fragrances for what they are, without constantly comparing them to something else.

For those who have tried both these and the originals, how do you think they compare?

[German watches] What Should Be My First German Watch?

I have Japanese (Seiko) and Swiss (Longines) covered now. If you were to recommend one German watch as the next addition to my small collection, what would it be? Let’s keep the recommendations reasonably attainable. I still have bills to pay. 😄

Edit: reasonably attainable may be best translated to within the price range of Longines Conquest (a little more or less).

Apologies. I'm relatively new to this hobby. My initial research introduced me to Sinn and Nomos so far.

Building a local fragrance collection

I’m still relatively new to the fragrance hobby, and so far I’ve mainly focused on building a collection of designer and niche perfumes. Lately though, I’ve decided that I also want to build a collection that showcases local perfumery.
I currently have GP Fragrance’s Dreamer and Elements collections, and I recently added Embers of Mayon. They’ve convinced me that there’s a lot more to discover from local brands. I’ve also been looking into Wren Atelier and Valor Extrait, but I haven’t had the chance to sample any of their fragrances before buying, so I’m not sure where to start.
If you were building a collection of Philippine-made fragrances, which brands or specific scents would you consider essential? Whether they’re everyday wear, hidden gems, or more artistic creations, I’d love to hear your recommendations. Thanks in advance.

My first Longines

My first Longines and my first step into Swiss luxury watches. I considered quite a few models, but kept coming back to the Conquest. Sometimes the watch you spend the most time comparing is the one you wanted all along.

The fragrance that started it all - ADG

Everyone has that one fragrance that started it all.
For me, it was the Acqua di Gio line. These were among the first bottles I bought when I started getting into fragrances, and they were the reason I became curious about exploring different scent profiles and building a collection.
I don’t wear them as often anymore now that my collection has grown, but I still appreciate the role they played in my fragrance journey. They remind me of where the hobby began.
What fragrance started your perfume hobby? Do you still wear it today, or has it become more of a sentimental bottle in your collection?

Does anyone still wear CK Escape?

I was wondering if there are still people here who regularly wear CK Escape.
I received a bottle as a birthday gift from my staff. To be honest, I assumed they chose it because it was reasonably priced, so I didn’t have particularly high expectations. But after wearing it a few times, I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It’s become one of those easy fragrances that I find myself reaching for more often than I expected.
For those who still own or wear CK Escape, what keeps it in your rotation? And if you’ve moved on from it, what made you stop wearing it?

Thoughts on Platinum Egoiste

I’m relatively new to the fragrance hobby, and one of the first classics I discovered was Chanel Platinum Egoiste. I wasn’t expecting much from a fragrance that’s been around for decades, but after trying it, I immediately understood why people still talk about it.
It isn’t the loudest fragrance in my collection, nor is it the one that gets the most compliments. Yet there’s something about its clean, metallic, aromatic character that just feels… effortless. It’s polished without being flashy and confident without trying too hard.
Platinum Egoiste feels the most like me. It doesn’t try to command attention. It simply feels composed, understated, and comfortable in its own skin. That’s ultimately why I’ve come to think of it as my signature scent.
For those who’ve owned or worn Platinum Egoiste for years, do you consider it signature scent worthy? If so, what keeps you coming back to it despite all the newer releases?

[SPB463] or [HCC001]?

After picking up my first two Seikos - a Presage SSK009J1 and a Seiko 5 Sports “Polar Batman” (SBSC017), I’m thinking about what my third Seiko should be.
My first choice has been the SPB463. I really like its clean, understated design and textured dial.

However, Seiko is releasing the new Presage Classic HCC001 next month, and now I’m torn.
If you had to choose just one, which would you go with and why? Would you stick with the SPB463, wait for the HCC001, or consider something else entirely?
I’d appreciate any thoughts, especially from those who have handled the SPB463 or have experience with the Presage Classic line. Thanks.
