Kids Sports - Snacks (Rant)

Perusing this sub makes me realize I am behind most of my Xennial friends on the parenting timeline. I have two kids in elementary school and they have been trying different sports, and the only constant seems to be that I am now expected to bring some sort of elaborate, unhealthy snack for the entire team at least once a season.

What the fuck happened to orange slices and maybe a trip to Dairy Queen at the end of the season? Why is my daughter coming home from her softball game with a gift bag? Why is my son upset when he doesn’t get donuts and cookies after his soccer game?

What are we doing here people?

Help Me Remember

So this is a cropped picture of me playing with my band in 2001. That’s my, um, much younger, arm.

I came across a guy selling a Hartke HA3500 bass head on FBM today and all kinds of memories came flooding in. This is the clearest picture I have of my rig at the time, and I am pretty sure I was playing an HA3500 here, but I can’t really remember.

Can anyone confirm/deny?

NAD: Raspberry Pi 5 NAM Rig

So ever since A2 came out I’ve been jonesing to figure out a way to play uncompressed native NAM profiles. I pieced together this rig and it is KILLER:

Raspberry Pi5 2GB running PiPedal ($60 new)
UA Volt 1 interface ($90 used)
ISP Stealth Pro Power Amp (already owned)

Currently running this out in stereo into two Celestion F12-X200s in their spec built cabs and in tone heaven.

Note, I originally tried this with a cheap CAD Audio interface and it sounded like glazed asshole. I think the preamps in your interface need to be pretty good for this to work correctly.

NAM A2

I know that NAM is a bit of a dirty word around these parts, but I am curious about something. With the release of NAM A2, the developers published a bunch of test results showing how their capture beat out several other products in blind listening tests and by other audio metrics.

Why wasn’t Fractal included in this? Is it because they are comparing captures vs. captures instead of captures vs. true models as in Fractal?

I am more than happy with my Fractal gear, just curious why they didn’t do this comparison especially since so many of us consider Fractal to be the standard.

Reverb?

Hey guys. I’m a a very active buyer and seller on Reverb. I have noticed recently that my listings have been sitting for much longer than “normal”. I know the stock response to this is “lower the price”, but I have several items listed at the lowest active price and lower than the “fast sale” suggested level and things are still sitting.

I’m thinking it’s probably a combination of things, first and foremost people just being broke right now.

But I am also wondering if Reverb changed their algorithm? I refuse to Bump my listings. Reverb already gets enough of our money. But did they recently make it so that things that you don’t bump not only don’t get highlighted, but do they get buried?

For example, I have a Source Audio Aftershock listed. It’s been up for 48 hours and it has 3 views. It’s in mint condition and it’s the lowest priced active listing. Items like this usually have dozens of views and several watchers after a couple of days.

Anybody having weird Reverb issues lately?

VP4 Owners - Do you own any other pedals?

So I am a middle aged man. I’ve come to terms with the fact that my mid life crisis is becoming a gear head. I’ve been obsessed with buying, trying, selling, then starting over for the past couple of years. I’ve played so much great gear and it’s been a really good time, no regrets.

That said, I recently landed on an AM4/VP4 setup. I had a pretty complicated board based on multiple Source Audio pedals (which I loved) when I realized that the Fractal stuff could replace all of it for less money, in a much more streamlined workflow, with superior sound. No brainer.

I sold most of my pedals to finance the AM4/VP4. The only ones I have left are a DC-2W, a TC SCF (I love chorus) a TC Infinite, and some home brewed pedals.

I’m thinking about selling all of them. Am I crazy or are the three Dimension algorithms on the Fractals as good as the DC-2W? Is there any reason to have any other pedals?

I am human. This isn’t a Fractal ad. It’s an honest question.

What pedals have you refused to sell?

Reverb Condition Advice

I have a 2006 Taylor 414CE that I am thinking about selling. The guitar is in excellent cosmetic condition, has good action, and sounds great acoustically.

The guitar has the known troublesome Taylor ES-1 pickup which of course is not working.

What condition is this guitar in using the Reverb rubric? Is it non-functioning?

Pricing Assistance?

Hi all. I am looking for a starter violin for my 9yo daughter and came across this on my local Facebook Marketplace. It doesn’t have a label or any markings. The owner says it came from a builder in San Francisco.

Any idea how much it might be worth and how much I should offer to buy it?

Thanks!

Fluff Bruce Stingray?

Hey all. I am looking for some opinions about a potential change I’ve been thinking about.

I own a Musicman StingRay that I absolutely love the look and feel of (truly the best neck I have ever touched). I am a hack guitarist and I certainly do not “need” an instrument of this quality, but I got a good deal on this beauty and I pulled the trigger. End game guitar, yadda yadda yadda.

Anyway, I have been using this guitar for high gain stuff and I don’t love the sound. I have been trying, and failing, to get into the early Thrice and Turnstile Glow On zone, with my Fractal AM4 going out to either DT770s or HS5 studio monitors. I am starting to think that the bridge pickup just isn’t hit enough for these styles?

So, I’ve been thinking about selling the guitar and using the funds to buy a Sterling Fluff Bruce model. I’d obviously have money leftover to buy something else as well.

Does anyone have the Fluff? How disappointed will I be with the downgrade? Any other advice to get the tones I am looking for?

So I am now down the rabbit hole on Fractal pedals. I am trying to decide between an FM3 or an AM4, but in the meantime I am noticing that pricing on Reverb doesn’t make any sense.

Fractal is selling AM4s new for $699. I see several listed on Reverb for over $1k. Are these listings by “scalpers” taking advantage of previously limited hardware runs?

FM3s are also not available new right now. Does anyone know how often Fractal replenishes this stock?
