American USMNT supporters living abroad — looking to speak for The Athletic
Hi all — I’m Amelie Claydon, a journalist at The Athletic.
I’m looking to speak with American soccer fans who are following the USMNT while living outside the United States, particularly in Africa, Asia, Europe or Latin America.
I’d love to hear:
- Where you are based and where you watch the matches
- Whether there is a local group of American supporters
- What it feels like following the US from abroad during a home World Cup
- Whether the tournament feels different when you are watching from another country
I’m looking for people who would be happy to have a short phone or WhatsApp conversation and potentially be quoted in an article.
Please comment below or send me a DM. You can also reach me on WhatsApp at +44 7510 841911.
My deadline is 1pm BST on Wednesday, June 24.
Thanks!

Kylian Mbappé’s 30-yard goal against Senegal explained: I spoke with three biomechanics experts
I spoke with three biomechanics and performance experts about the mechanics behind Kylian Mbappé’s goal against Senegal.
The photograph taken just before he strikes makes the finish look almost impossible: his standing leg is folding beneath him, barely any of his foot is in contact with the pitch, and yet he still completes the swing and generates enough force to beat Edouard Mendy.
They explained the kinetic chain behind the shot, the role of the ankle and lower leg, and why most players would instinctively shorten the backswing to stop themselves falling.
I wrote the piece for The Athletic and thought people here might enjoy the technical side of it.
I spoke with Auburn's Ja'Kobe Tharp
This was by far one of the most enjoyable interviews I have done while working at The Athletic/The New York Times and I thought I'd share the free-to-read article here. He is a true character and will achieve so much!
