Working through my watercolor journal, where every page tells a different story

I love taking photos of my day and creating a narrative out of them in my journal.

One of my favorite memories from chaperoning my boys' field trip

While the kids were busy on the play structure, checking out the farm animals, and exploring with their friends, this tree caught my fancy. So I snapped some quick pics for later. I also thought the replica village was charming.

I missed Pride month, but San Diego Pride is this weekend. Celebrate love 🫶🏻 Printed from my watercolor.

I wanted to revamp a card I made for Pride a couple of years ago. I spent quite a bit of time on the drawing. It was definitely challenging. I’m super proud of myself.

Sellers of physical cards — just got a 5 card order, and they barely fit in my usual rigid mailer. How do you all ship larger card orders?

I sell printed greeting cards on Etsy, and up until now my orders have mostly been 1-2 cards at a time, so I’ve been using a small rigid mailer that works great for that. Then someone ordered 5 cards in one go, and I realized my usual mailer isn’t going to cut it.

I know I could just size up to a bigger rigid mailer, but I’m curious how other card sellers handle this when it happens:

• Have you adjusted your listings (like adding quantity-based shipping) after something like this happened?
• Any packaging that’s worked well for holding a bigger stack of cards flat without them shifting around?

Would love to hear how you’ve dealt with this, especially if it’s caught you off guard too!

Sketchbook page of Mission Bay — really unsure about my yellow shading. How do you handle shadows on bright colors without muddying them?”

A watercolor and ink spread from a day at the bay

For my journaling process, I do some thumbnail sketches from my array of photos to figure out the page layout. From there, I sketch in pencil, then ink, then watercolor, then write. All this is done at home, where it’s quiet and dry 😆

Designed a Father's Day card inspired by the people we always find our way back to

Turned my watercolor painting into a meaningful Father’s Day Card - one that is unique and a little less cliche.

Watercolor rowboat Father's Day card inspired by the idea of having someone in your life who's always a safe harbor.

I painted and printed this in my studio. It started as just wanting to make something that felt quieter and more meaningful than the typical Father’s Day stuff.

Nine pages into a new watercolor journal and excited to see where it goes

For inquiring minds, this is a Hahnemuhle watercolor book, 7x7. I also take my own reference photos ☺️

I painted a lone traveler against a desert sunrise and turned it into a card.

A camel silhouetted against a golden desert sunrise, with the quote “The hardest paths lead to the most beautiful light” — which felt like the right words for this image.

I sell it as a greeting card, but the print quality is good enough to frame. It’s listed in my Etsy shop -https://amellorwatercolors.etsy.com/listing/4513908753

Made this card from my original watercolor painting. Some days we need the powerful reminder that “the hardest paths lead to the most beautiful light”.

I love creating cards from my watercolor paintings—it’s my favorite way to send something personal and handmade to friends and family.
