Tips for TEAS before finishing A&P102

Just looking for some advice/personal experiences with taking the TEAS before fully finishing A&P102. I know it’s not recommended, and I’ve accepted the realistic idea that I may totally bomb the science due to this. However, spring application deadline to take the TEAS is Sept. 30th and I’ll be in 8 week A&P102 starting 8/24… taking the exam on 9/3 so only about halfway through it.

I’ve gotten A’s in all the pre-req’s and can hopefully include 102 in those A’s 🤞 I’m motivated to get through school quickly and have the opportunity to do so, and I’d really like to at least try to get into Spring start for nursing. After emailing with my advisor I’ll be on track to apply assuming I pass my class and TEAS.

Has anyone had to do this? Take their TEAS a little before the actual end of their pre-req’s? I’m nervous about it, but I’ve been looking at every resource I can to try and get a general understanding of the body systems/ what info will be on the exam. Any advice is welcome!

Uncontrollable vomiting with pill

Hey everyone, I recently started the Hailey Ye birth control pill and have been having a really hard time. For context I’m a huge lover of the IUD, and I had two of them one for 3 years and the other for 7. I got married and although kids aren’t in my immediate future they eventually are. The insertion for IUD is what nightmares are made of so I figured why go through the pain again just to get it removed prematurely.

I decided the pill was the best option, and started taking it last Thursday. That first day was fine no noticeable issues. However, Friday around 1pm I got this really intense hot flash, and had to run to the bathroom to puke. Proceeded to throw up 3 more times then felt fine. I was in the middle of finals week last week (I’m 26 but in nursing school) and didn’t want to risk it so didn’t take the pill again until yesterday. Again totally fine no issues.

But again today at work around 1pm just like last week, intense hot flash and throwing up all within 10 minutes of each other. It comes on so suddenly I’ve never experience something like this before. I always take my pill with food, but on the days I threw up I was pretty busy at work and didn’t get to eat lunch so I was on an empty stomach later on but always with food when I take it.

Is this normal for an adjustment period? I’m so annoyed my IUDs were a dream, I figured this wouldn’t be any different but I’m literally scared to take it now.

Just double checking myself

Before I reply to one of my clients to try and navigate the cause I wanted to get some opinions. I just recently went “off on my own” after working at a chain for 3 years so this is my first time talking to a client with doubts/questions. I work at a commission spa now, that uses mainly Dr. Shrammeck products. I had a client who had extensive, non-inflamed congestion. After a couple basic enzyme facials with extractions, we planned for and did the first level of the green peel from shrammeck. She was relatively cleared at this point just had some pigmentation and texture issues.

This treatment was on the 8th. Because I’m new to being on my own and she’s a family friend I reached out last week to see how her skin is doing. She took 4 days to reply and finally did yesterday saying she’s breaking out. TBH she texted me late last night so I didn’t reply, then in the morning she texted me again asking what the cause of her breakout could be.

I want to ask her to send me pictures, so I can pinpoint the kind of bumps they are and maybe get some clarity on what’s going on. I know skincare usually takes over a month to see how your skin handles it, but what about treatments? Is it possible the treatment from a couple weeks is causing this? I know purging is a pretty divisive topic, but I’m new-ish so I just want to get some input on how you’d navigate this! Thanks in advance :)

Frustrated that the standard for everything is online

Listen I know I’m going to sound like an old geezer who hates trees, and that’s not the case. I absolutely understand why moving course resources like textbooks, study guides, and worksheets is great for the environment and easier to keep track of. However, the wifi in one of my buildings, specifically the one I have anatomy lab in sucks!

The last two lab periods I’ve been stuck trying to get my wifi to work for over 30 minutes. Eating into my time to finish assignments due at the end of the lab. Our textbook and visual resources are all online, and although I have a printer… ink is expensive. So printing out an entire textbook seems silly, and paying $75+ on tops of what I paid for online access seems even sillier.

Most of my lab assignments are labeling assignments to get you familiar with the figures in the textbook. However, it’s difficult to label if I cannot pull up the figures from wifi troubles. Which then cuts into my time to actually do the assignment.

I know I’m complaining into the void but dang, I feel so old remembering a time when you had physical media for studying and resources and I miss it 🥲

Anyone else's NSpouse go on and on themselves but can't be bothered when you speak?

I'm going to sound like an asshole, but at this point I just get so annoyed and frustrated when my husband is talking to me. He can't even muster up a reply to 90% of the things I say, like will deadass stare me in my face and say nothing to an open ended conversation. Daily. I've learned to just shut up and text my friends when I want to talk.

What frustrating is when he's feeling chatty, because it's never a conversation, rather him spouting random topics without letting me get a word in. It's crazy to watch him basically have a conversation with himself while I desperately try to interject any meaningful contribution before he's spouting the next thing over me. OR I do get some words out and he becomes completely contrarian to what I'm saying (even if I'm agreeing with his original point). Making the conversation miserable, and a lot of the times ending in tension.

When he goes on these spiels I notice he will say the exact same point over and over just in different ways. Over 4-5 times, to the point I've let my annoyance get the best of me and literally said "Yes I understand please stop repeating yourself." Which of course turns me into the asshole.

Sometimes I feel bad for being so annoyed by him when he wants to actually "talk", but then I remember the countless times throughout the day where I'm not even offered the courtesy of an "OK," when trying to converse about things I care about.

As a chronic UTI getter, telehealth is life changing

My biggest issue with UTI's and the doctor is they literally make you do exactly what hurts the most in order to culture your urine and give you antibiotics. So you sit in a doctors office with your symptoms on 10, and uncomfortable af just for them to confirm what you already knew.

Today I utilized the virtual visit from my PCP and oh my god. No pee test, and no cold waiting room for hours. I was prescribed antibiotics within 10 minutes and was able to pick them up within the hour. GAME CHANGER!

I know this is super random but as someone who struggled with UTI's my whole life, I remember the days when you felt it coming on and just hoped your doctor had something somewhat soon while downing AZO just to survive. Those days are no longer and I'm ecstatic lol

Update/edit for anyone concerned: I’m very aware of antibiotic resistance and I appreciate everyone being concerned and voicing their opinions! Fortunately, I’m already starting to feel way better. My chronic UTIs were more common in my 20s and teens, but this is my first uti this calendar year. I’ve been seeing my PCP since I was 15 so close to 20 years which is possibly why she felt comfortable prescribing me over the phone.

I also live in a very small town with very limited urgent care options that aren’t the ER. I saw someone mention accessibility and I think this is an important point to consider. The lowest wait time I’ve had in our only urgent care was 2 hours. Typically it’s a 2 1/2 to 3 hour wait. I’m in the thick of summer college classes with multiple exams this week. With that being said, I’m glad I did telehealth this time. It’s not an everytime thing, but having meds within 24 hours of symptoms starting was something I’m grateful for this time.

I think there is a mud dauber making a nest in my window ac. What to do?

This vibrating buzzing sound started coming from my window AC yesterday. Went on til about 5 then stopped. Today started back up again in the afternoon and goes in intervals. I’ve been wracking my brain for what it could be and I remembered that we found a mud dauber tube last year in the garage window. When I googled the noise of them making the mud tube it’s identical. What do I do???

What is this noise coming from my window unit???

I’m literally so confused right now. Video link uploaded of turned off and unplugged AC unit.
Yesterday my AC unit started making this noise. At first I thought it was a bug trapped in there, so I smacked it thinking it would change the sound. Nope. I unplugged it thinking maybe a part inside was going bad, but now today completely unplugged and not been turned on it’s doing it again???

I went outside and looked and I don’t see any sign of a wasp nest, but the more I hear it I’m just not sure it’s a bug. But it’s not plugged in so could it be a part? Idk someone help.

Today it’s been doing it for an hour, and comes and goes. Like 30 second to 1 minute intervals

Ask any questions for clarification

Highest grade on lab exam 78%. Normal?

Hey all, I am taking an APHY101 class where we just tested over the cell, cellular structure, and tissues. I got the highest score on lecture exam in the class (96%), then got a 70% (35/50) on our lab exam. I was shocked, as I knew I missed a couple but didn’t think it was 15! Our online grade book tells us the highest, lowest, median, and what percentile you’re in. When I went to look I figured I’d be in the lower group, but I’m actually one of the higher grades with the best being a 39/50. I made sure the study the actual characteristics of the tissues instead of focusing on the pictures since real life slides can vary from pictures. I’m feeling really discouraged, but I feel like the fact that the highest grade was a C isn’t normal. In our scheduled class lab I made sure to identify all of them but the exam slides were so difficult.

Edit to add; her syllabus explicitly states she doesn’t curve

Frustrated with the industry

This is just going to be a long winded rant, so I'll put TL;DR at the end. But I'm so over/annoyed with this career, specifically our job opportunities and how 7/10 spa's or salon owners are doing unethical or straight up illegal shit to their employees. I know this isn't the case *everywhere* so if you're one of the lucky ones please don't take this as a personal dig to your workplace, I'm just pointing out the fact that non-toxic workplaces in this industry are so far and few between.

I went to esthetician school in my early/mid 20s, and worked in a few different industries prior. This is the only one that is just constantly riddled with employer issues, and seemingly NO repercussions. I live in a mid size city that is growing rapidly, we have a crap ton of salons, spa's, and med-spas. The problem? 90% of them come with credible evidence backed employee horror stories. Personally, I worked at a luxury chain for years after getting licensed and was worked like a dog. Started getting carpal tunnel symptoms a few years in from the required work load. Started to look for better, and found a commission spa. Met the owners, seemed like great ladies (still kinda are), quit my toxic chain job to work for them. A month in I'm getting a packet requiring us to come in an do spa work unpaid to "grow the business." Like wtfff??

All of my esthie friends have similar issues, why are these owners so oblivious to ethics and laws??? I started nursing school at my community college to get my ASN for med spas but honestly....? I'm ready to just career shift to something less draining and more stable within nursing. I love esthetics, skin, and being an esthetician so I can help people and it really hurts to think of that as the reality, and I know "going solo is always an option." But what if I don't desire to run a business... my passion is with skin and people not management. It just sucks we are subject to toxic work conditions, or taking 2+ years unpaid just to try and get your own business started.

To the Spa owners in here who I see constantly talking about how they do right by their employees, thank you for trying to change this. I wish it was required to be a service provider or something before owning a spa

TL;DR: tired of toxic spa owners and the limited options we have as estheticians for jobs

“Med spa” but only estheticians?

Hey ladies, this is mainly just a curiosity post because I thought differently and want to know if I’m wrong! I came across this medical spa in my city that I had never heard of before. It seemed fairly new when I checked out the Instagram page but it’s only estheticians offering services. And no injections or treatments you would find in a med spa. I know it’s a semantics thing so not a big deal but is this normal? I was under the impression we had to have an NP or physician to be a medical spa, but I also don’t know much about it

Sad that this is the life I've chosen

Today has been a hard day. I worked all day, while my nhusband played video games literally from the time I left to the time I walked through the door coming home. He does work full time, so this inherently isn't the issue. Letting off steam with video games is fine by from 8:30-7??? And honestly that alone I wasn't even mad about.

There was an insane amount of dishes left out from last nights dinner that I made, and I typically plan out every dinner because my husband cant even fathom having to cook. Its actually insane how he feigns like cooking is an impossible task for him, even kraft mac and cheese. Well tonight I got off an hour late, and when I came home all. of. the. dishes. were still in the sink.

So, I told him I really didnt feel like cooking, since I wouldn't really be able to start it until the dishes were done, and by then its almost 8/9pm. Im starving as I just got off of work, so screw it I'll eat ramen tonight for all I care. He starts to try and get a rise out of me by being rude, saying things like "Fine, if you want me to do the dishes just say that!!" TBH I was just suggesting fast food... but now that you mention it yeah why tf havent you touched the dishes all day. Why do I have to literally tell you to do a basic home chore? I went to the guest bedroom and pretended to fold some clothes in order to grey rock him, and I could hear him yelling down the hallway.

I had such a good day at work today too, I'm commission based and I had a huge sale.

So now I sit here typing this reddit post, listening to my stomach loudly growl. Why? Because he's in the kitchen heating up some soup for just him. Im so depressed this is the life I have. I'm in nursing school right now but I yearn for the day I dont have to deal with this anymore. If I'm going to have to do it all on my own anyway, I'd rather shed the dead weight. As brutal as that sounds :/ I have a pit of sadness in my stomach that I've chosen a partner that cares so little about me.

Had a client lie to get money off and can’t shake it

For some reason I cannot let this go, even though I’ve had negative feedback before. I think the difference is in the past I could be humble and see where I could improve, whereas this situation is wealthy people not realizing their words hold weight to the employee they’re throwing under the bus.

The context to these clients is super important: It’s an older couple who both like VERY deep tissue, unfortunately the therapist that the woman really liked was caught stealing from our drawer AND giving massive discounts to clients I’m talking like $100 off. We are a commission spa so this is not allowed. So, since this woman is no longer employed my boss/the owner realized this couple has been getting charged $150 less than what they should be since the lady that got fired would normally be the one to check them out. These people show up and immediately ask AGAIN about this therapist, and frown when they’re told AGAIN she no longer works there. Before we started their massages, my boss informed them of the correct price and the situation. So already my lady is completely unreceptive to me; barely talking, rolling her eyes just in general wants me to know she is displeased with having me.

My boss has massaged this woman, and she enjoyed it so I tried to mirror my boss as much as I could while still doing my own thing for her specific needs. I come out of the massage really proud of myself thinking wow there’s no way she’s not happy now I really locked in.

They go up to the checkout desk where I can hear but they can’t see me. My boss asks her specifically if she liked her massage and she replied “it was okay.” So my boss pushes her for specifics. She says “it was just so different than what I’m used too,” which caught me by surprise since I mirrored my boss. So my boss proceeds to ask “well do you like my massages?” She said “yes absolutely,” this raises a red flag in my bosses head so she asks her for more specifics. So this lady throws my pressure under the bus stating it wasn’t enough. Mind you this woman weighs no more than 110lbs and I’m a solid big boned woman who has never had a complaint with deep tissue clients. Plus I asked twice about the pressure she said it’s good both times.

At this point I’m frustrated with what I’m hearing but I’m not worried, because I figure my boss will have my back since the situation seems pretty obvious. Nope. She gives them money off, and then comes to tell me I should give her a massage to see if she can give me any pointers. Which tells me what this lady has said has now put doubt in her mind about her employees(me) skills.

Now listen, I truly believe you can’t grow or get better if you don’t allow people to give you constructive criticism, and I’ve had multiple times in my career where someone showed me a better way and I was appreciative. But this wasn’t that. I gave her one of the best massages I’ve ever given to date, and I truly believe no matter what I did she wouldn’t have been happy because it wasn’t the price or person she wanted. So why can’t I let it go?? I’m so frustrated by this, people lie on employees names for free stuff not thinking about the employee that now has to answer for their feedback.

Edited to make easier to read with spacing :)

Long story short I’m realizing my husband is at least a very emotionally dysregulated man-child and at worst a narcissist. I will also give myself some grace, and say things drastically changed after the wedding, which is one reason I think he’s a narcissist (He was entirely different, and we’ve lived together for 3 years) And by things I mean the way he treats me, himself, and his responsibilities. I’m 26F and he’s 34M we’ve been together for 5 years married for 8 measly months, and our relationship has turned so sour and for seemingly no reason. I’m not going to act like I didn’t have some rose glasses, but I’m not kidding when I say it was like a switch just flipped and the mask fell off as soon as the honeymoon was over.

First, he’s started speaking to me in this tone that constantly sounds annoyed and talks down to me like a child. 90% of the day when he talks to me he sounds like he hates me, he’s not verbally abusive but it’s like my very existence annoys the fuck out of him now. We will be talking about a subject, and even if I’m objectively correct, he’ll act like I’m wrong or he needs to fact check because I can’t possibly know that and he doesn’t. We don’t have a dead bedroom, and really nothing has changed within our relationship other than being legally married so I’m not sure where this resentment is coming from.

Secondly, and the harder thing to manage is his inability to take any responsibility or criticism. Even if it’s something that’s not a bid deal at all, he’ll get super dramatic. For instance, today he put my laptop on the couch and our dog jumped up on top of it. Luckily, he’s small but I causally said “hey try not to put my laptop on the couch so the dog can’t jump on it.” His immediate response is deflection and says “well I thought you’d be faster and grab it before he did.” This is pretty typical, as of late where he does something relatively innocent but wrong. Then refuses to own up to it, even though it’s not even a big deal. I told him he’s not going to make this about me, and to just say okay because it’s not the end of the world. He gets super pissed and starts spouting off about how he can’t do anything and will never touch my laptop again. Like when did I say anything like that 🤯 but again this has become the norm as of late. Deflect first, then dramatize situation when that doesn’t work and become victim. This specifically has been new after the wedding.

Lastly, he can’t do anything administrative for himself. If I’m not making dinner he just won’t eat. If I don’t plan every one of our responsibilities they won’t get done. He doesn’t know when any of our bills come out, and has no desire to learn or help.

The two things that made me fall in love with my husband when we were dating was how humble and open he was and how kind he was to me. It’s like I don’t even recognize the person I dated for 4 years and I feel stupid. I would’ve never married someone who treated me this way, so I feel like it was all a ruse. Why act this way now? I want this to work because he really is my best friend we are so compatible, but these issues are concerning me for my long term future and happiness. Like who tf is making a Reddit post about divorce within a year of marriage, I’m not an expert but this can’t be normal

Also, his parents and their relationships with him lead me to believe he’s a narcissist. His mom is your typical toxic boy mom, who definitely inflated him constantly. However, his dad is the opposite. Completely emotionally checked out, and nothing is ever good enough. After being with my husband and seeing this nasty side of him, I’m realizing the contrast of these two created someone with a massive yet fragile ego, and I’m worried about my future with him.

I do plan on emailing my advisor to see what she says but I’m kinda confused on when I should take my TEAS and apply for the ADN program. Right now I’m finishing up Gen-Ed’s and ADN pre-reqs and I started out slow because I’m 26 with a full time job. For this spring I’m finishing up my 8 week psy101 class. Then for summer I take an 8 week aphy 101. The first 8 weeks of fall I do aphy102 and the second 8 weeks I do aphy201. I’m also in a math class for the entire fall semester. My advisor made it seem like I could take my teas and apply for the second fall program by October then start in January, because the classes that count towards my points will be done. So I’m thinking take my teas in July/August. But I’m nervous about taking the exam before I’ve taken that second anatomy class… has anyone been in this situation? What did you do? Fort Wayne campus!
